Not many people still around who can remember Monon C420s. However, I remember seeing L&N painted former Monon C420s. Photoed many of them too. Easy to identify the Monon locos with the distinctive nose mounted bell. I remember a day in 1978 in winchester,Ky when there was 5 (L&N)C420s in the very small yard there,,,inside the wye. All in yellow/gray paint. At least one Monon was there.

This really looks great, so great Im going to buy it.....BUT, yes but, the only things IM disappointed with are the diamond sounds....There is no sound what so ever when the trains cross the diamonds....just my 2cents..

The ATSF Geeps are era appropriate, but in 1965 ATSF units wouldn't be wearing the blue & yellow "freightbonnet" scheme yet - that was introduced in 1975; in 1965 freight units would be wearing the black and white "zebra" scheme, or the yellow and blue "bookends"/"pinstripe" scheme Also, some of the cars on the ATSF consists seem a bit late, too, for example the cabeese appear to be the "wide vision" cabooses appropriate for the mid-80s, as well as some of the boxcars and covered hoppers appearing to be typical of the 1970s onwards. In fairness though, it's almost impossible to find equipment for the mid-60s in simulators, as most available stock is either from the steam era - specifically the 1930s-1950s, or after the 1980s... the 60s and 70s seem to be a bit of a dark period, the strange transition from the 40ft boxcars and reefer trains of the steam era, and the intermodals and unit-trains of the modern era. I myself often have to take slight liberties when operating sessions set between 1960 and 1980 because of the sheer lack of era-appropriate rolling stock, often having to settle for a mix of 1950s and 1980s equipment.

Look at the manifest with freight cars from recent times and not the 1960s

No, you don’t need MSTS to play open rails, but if you want the routes and locomotives etc from MSTS, you need it
