I’ve learned so much from you! I bought an Everlast 161STH about a year ago and love it. Made the move from the HF 90 amp flux core wire feed to stick and there’s nothing I can’t get penetration on. Thank you Bob for giving away your knowledge on KZbin and thank you Everlast for making a great machine at an affordable price.

All good advice from mr Moffitt. I am certified AWS D1.1, too Many people sell 6010 short. I love the stuff as it is so versitile in the repair and maintenance. Proper technique and application can reward the user with great strength and speed. It does NOT require special storage ( no rod oven ) and with minimal preperation makes lasting repairs / fabrication. It is the " special sauce " that pays large dividend$......thanks Bob

Thanks for speaking of “repair and maintenance” - where a lot of Stick is used. (Hence Am plotting the purchase of an Esab 180 welder, with arc force and hot-start, so as to run Cellulosic rods.)

Well, Mr Moffat, you are in your element here! I see/hear that you push and then withdraw the rod and repeat. When you lengthen the arc the voltage increases but the amps decrease, yes? This allows the puddle to freeze even quicker and the temporary increase in voltage blows away debris and impurities , yes? Do you push the rod right into the puddle before withdrawing it? Does the rod stick when you do this? Thx

How Old Tymers tell the difference between Large and Small rods. The difference between “sparklers” and “pool cues” - Bob shows one of the latter near the end of - is sufficiently obvious that lesser lights like me can tell. I don’t have his nose, though.

I'm doing mostly TIG now but if I have to stick I prefer 6010. Burns deep and freezes fast. A true all position rod. Burns through paint and plating too.

Biggest media choice ever. Bob Moffatt should be the face of almost all welding videos. Give that man money, feed his family and his animals he's the best God given teacher I've ever seen when it comes to welding. What machine is burning a 7/32 jet all day? I can lay down art with a 5/32 on a lincoln 250 gas rig, but not all day lol. To this note, I think a cool video for you guys would be to relate to duty cycle on machines. It's a big area often skipped over I feel like, it's a problem I run into often as a steel fabricator. I get all these pieces tacked up ready to weld(hundreds of feet of weld), have 2 brand new gas machines running 5/32 7024, and of course they can't put out. I think a video into the power source of machines and their capable output would be a banger of a video. Wish you all the success, the more knowledge we can pass on, the better

The kid probably has been having a hard time with 6010, because 6010 likes to run on a higher voltage, which the crappy Amazon inverter machines don’t have. I use 2 crappy amazon inverter machines in series, gets me an open circuit voltage of 130. 6010 loves it!!

Hey so I am a newer welder in shop class, and I am having trouble doing my 7018 beads, I am running on DC+ 105 because that's what I was suggested to start with and that's what I have had the best luck on, I haven't gotten past my bead weld on 7018 because every time I start doing pretty good I mess up slightly and stick. I was wondering if you had any suggestions or if there was a specific video I could watch, I have gotten really good with 6013 and 7014, I'm not too bad with 6011, but this 7018 is really kicking my but. Thanks
@OtisFlint
@OtisFlint Жыл бұрын
105 is too low for a 1/8 7018. Turn it up to 120-140 and it'll solve your sticking issue.

Everybody can run different numbers, just spend more hood time and it’ll come together. I can vary 20 + or - on some welding positions and you can barely tell because of rod manipulation and speed. Just spend more hood Time and find what works for you, don’t get caught up on a specific setting because what i can do on 110 others may need to run 125 to do the same. Welding is like handwriting, you kinda do your own thing that works.

Question love it,,, thought the kid was going to get some stick time 😅 Box store sells 6011 but not 6010 you focus on 6010. why 6010 over 6011? thank you …….. Oops As usual , find an answer after I ask a question 6010 has more TENSILE STRENGTH seems to be the answer …?? “Material: Both 6010 and 6011 are made of mild steel. Wire Coating:6010 is coated with high cellulose sodium. On the other hand, 6011 has high cellulose potassium coating. Welding Current: 6010 is only compatible with DC +, while 6011 works with AC, DC +, or DC -. Tensile Strength: 6010 has 78,000 (PSI) TS and 6011 has 60,000(PSI) TS Yield Strength: 6010 has 60,000(PSI) YS, and 6011 has 48,000(PSI) YS. Elongation: Both offer 22 percent elongation in 2 inches.”
@robmurphy806
@robmurphy806 Жыл бұрын
Incorrect - 6011 is simply 6010 made to run off AC welders. 6010 is one of the "standard" rods for welding procedures.
