“Ooh they lied,” says BlocBoy JB, the Memphis rapper whose Wikipedia page claims he never met his father. “I was with my daddy for a long time,” BlocBoy said, setting the record straight during a recent visit to MASS APPEAL HQ. His father was incarcerated when the future recording artist was just 8 years old. “Then he broke out to come see me, and he got locked up again.” After topping the charts with his “Look Alive” remix featuring Drake, BlocBoy just dropped a mixtape called ‘Simi,’ named for the Memphis O.G. who encouraged him to pursue music rather than life in the streets. Sadly, Simi was murdered before BlocBoy achieved fame and fortune. Check out the latest episode of Open Space to learn BlocBoy's thoughts on life in Memphis and how Drake learned BlocBoy’s signature move, the “Shoot dance.”
