@Shawn K Turbochicken, thanks for this video brother!!! Your well-known djembe video (the one where you ave millions of views) encouraged me to buy a djembe. I'm surprised (and overjoyed) to see that you're also a believer (I assume) because of the worship music you play. What a joy it is to even hear and learn your take on Open the Eyes! Serisouly bro, you made me smile and worship with you in listening to this video 12 years later after you recorded it and thousands of miles away from Singapore, here in Sacramento, California. Thanks for that! I'm already a cajon player, but I've been wanting to buy a djembe drum for a long time and your video just pushed me over the edge to go to the local music store and buy one. Our church does singing during outreach & evangelism and so I'm intending to use it during these times. Blessings to you brother; grace and peace be multiplied to you! :)

Thank you so much for doing these videos. I am learning to play guitar hoping to use it for worship and I am buying my hubby a djembe for his birthday. He is a drummer and is wanting to learn the basics he skipped and has never played hand drums so you are helping us both. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts to bless the body and praise God!

I just want to say thanks for this video, guys. I know it was made a while ago, but I watched it over and over to watch your hands while you played your djembe and have learned quite a bit from it. I love playing my djembe and your videos helped me learn how to do some new and interesting things with it. Thanks and God bless!

@skunksnag To get the poppy snappy sound you have to put a hand over the drum to keep it from vibrating and use your other hand to hit the edge of the drum. You can also alter the pitch of the snap by moving the hand that stops the vibration around. (You can see how turbochicken does the snap in the chorus)

hi hughman174, i didn't mike the djembe bottom or have a pzm mike, just a condenser on cardoid. i depended on the reflections for the lower ends. also avoided placing mike too near skin of djembe, to allow it to capture more room sound. glad it's helping you.

Hi, I like the way the djembe sounds and I have heard many of them but not the sound like this one, how can I ask for the same style of djembe that you have? I see the form or shape is quite different,I'm wondering if that's the reason of the good bass tone or if it's because of the patches... any way take me out of the dubt please and If you know the size of that one it can help also hehe greetings from Ecuador

I play drums and percussion for a Luthern Church in Lake Forest CA. I've recently started playing the djembe with smaller groups at the church. I am learning an borrowing much from you and all these videos you have placed on You Tube, Thank you very much. I have 1 question though. How are you mic'ing the djembe? I currently use an Audix I5 over the drum and I get the lows but I have to hit it a little strong to get that.

hey alleyhse, good input. however it's just my preference, after having played both types for worship (and top 40s). you're right that they're both good and the engineer can work miracles but there are definitely some differences between the 2 makes :)
