Just a FYI, I've had my UDR now for over two years and gotta admit NO breakage, replaced front skid plate(twice) changed out a couple of servos and did general maintenance like grease the gears and oil the DIFFS/Shocks. Drove it with moderate bashing and a whole lot of jumping. Scale as could be and IMHO built like a tank 👍

I've been running RCs on my local beach for best part of 30 years. It's a fantastic surface & with a set of paddles, offers simply amazing levels of grip & fun. I've tried many different methods of "sealing" diffs & whereas these will certainly slow the ingress of sand, it will eventually get in everywhere. Long term it will affect the service life of motors, servos, bearings, literally anything that moves. If you run on sand, your just gonna need to do a lot more maintenance. I attempt to negate the wear by just running a select few of my older/rougher cars & save the better stuff for better conditions.

Hi man a tip for you from me, to seal those pesky gear boxes from getting sand inside.... here is what I do with most all my RC models, I go around both top surfaces with a tiny bead of grease you can tap it on with a finger around the top sides of both gearbox halves, go around the whole surface even over the bearing tops if there are some. then screw them together and you will see grease come out then wipe it off and you should now have a nice seal that stops anything from getting in. I do this with a real tacky grease and it works great.😊👍👍

I'm sure you figured this out by now, but the sand is getting in thru just behind the wheels. Where the axles slide into the housing. I filled my axle tubes with grease. That way if the sand gets past the outer bearing, it will get stuck in the grease before it gets to the differential.

I can give you the part numbers if you'd like to do the upgrade I actually found mine on KZbin and the gentleman that did it did a great job there's actually a couple shims that you do not need when you do this upgrade or it will bind up the rear end

Yeah. Then people wonder why I dab RTV sealant on the edges of every gear housing I slap together. The key to RTV sealant is the same as mechanics, you only use enough to lightly coat the mating surface. If there is any squeezing out, it's too much. That is how you tell a good mechanic from a yahoo that leaves rubber strings of RTV throughout your engine, clogging oil passages up. But yeah, just a light coating over the mating surface of that diff housing, keeps sand and maybe even moisture out of there.

I think the person meant to say the differentials were close to the same size as the Summit not the X Maxx. At least that's what I thought when I saw them. They look real close to the same size as the ones in my Summit. Thanks for another great video! Again you picked another truck I would love to have in my line-up but can't afford. But I guess you have to sell one to make room anyway! Was super impressed with your running videos and how hard that front end was pushed up into the body when it landed nose first several times! You had a great slow motion shot with a still shot of the front and buried into the dirt with the front-end completely bottomed out and no problems with breakage on the A-Arms or anyting else in the front end! The differential cases not sealing up could be a problem. I'm sure if you ask around a little bit with all the people you know, plus the viewers commenting you should probably hear somebody else having the same problem or else it was just one-time deal. Let's pray for the one time deal so that sand doesn't tear up that bad ass truck! 👊😀👍🇺🇸🍻🏁

@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын

@olds97lss6 жыл бұрын
That gear reduction planetary is an odd extra apparatus to throw in the mix. I wonder why they did that? Just seems like it adds a lot of extra complexity and rotational mass to the drive train.
@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
The reason for the planetery is to lower the axle ratio in the rear end. This gives the rear axle about 9-1 ratio which almost completely gets rid of torque twist. Since the rear has one the front needed one to match the ratios. I would rather have seen the reduction in the ring and pinion and not have the planetery but that’s not now they did it. In the future I can see a planetery delete kit, however that will make these things stupid fast, time will tell.

Yeah..screw all that wrenching, no way its fun enough for that noise.

lol well, its fun to drive and the way it performs is pretty awesome. All mechanical things need maintenance.

Silicone or urethane sealant before you drive it.
@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
When I do the update video I’ll do that.
@hammerhome78796 жыл бұрын
You do not simply apply it to the outside , you hold the tube on an angle against the inside slot on the inner casing. This sandwiches it in between the casings when you screw them together, then wipe off the excess once it's screwed together. Been doing it for 30 years , no dirt problems.

Silicone sealant where the plastic housing mates, what fluid in the front and center or have they filled with grease, glad the 5th scale's run fluid not grease, I use Fast Eddy extremely sticky grease in the housing. too much grease will work against the action like there is a binding somewhere. Yet another issue which would have caused premature wear almost as bad as weak parts, so breakages aside they could have done better taken large scale builds into consideration, both should have been 5th scale built as 5th scale, I have six up and running all gas was going to buy either the Super Baja Rey or the UDR but both are having breakage issues now this. Me now am going to but the Kraken-RC VEKTA-5 Trophy Truck I have their Ultra-4 VEKTA-5 and love it, it is as good as my LOSI 5ive-T better than my DBXL, Dragon Hammer, and my HPI Baja 5B and 5SC just.

You do like the big ones!! Yeah I’ll seal up the seams with something. My Buddy just got the SBR and has brutalized it with no breakages as of yet. What are you hearing people breaking on it? It may be my next truck so I’m interested for sure.
@Nickwillfixit6 жыл бұрын
The front arms, steering links, driveshafts, suspension rear upper links the axle mount twice now have heard this as with driveshafts. It is a real shame as I was going to get the LOSI, as thought the knowledge they gained from the 5ive-T and B would have been a lesson learnt, Traxxas well they did one 5th scale a Monster Gas Buggy good on paper again too many weak area's and never bothered to develop it, again shame as I really wanted a Electric one but did not fancy the Axial Yeti XL or the DBXL-E I have the DBXL Gas and was disappointed with it, it took far more upgrades right off the bat than any of my other 5th scale, all my 5th scale are heavily modified where required no bling, my most heavily modded are my two Baja's and my 5ive-T which to date are my most heavily used, but my Dragon Hammer and VEKTA-5 are running a close second and this summer will surpass the others then the Kraken Trophy truck will be the most used so I am already collecting the required upgrades for the design as per the Ultra 4, roll on the summer fed up with a major strip down and clean every time I use them so a few have not turned a wheel yet this year due to the newer ones in my stable becoming firm favorites.

Wow, my buddy beats on his SBR like he hates it and nothing has broke at all. I tried a Losi 5ive T and it was a money pit so I sold it at a loss but was glad to get it out of my way.

sand and salt water is the worst enemy for rcs. sand will grind any metal away, bearings, spurs etc.. i would never run anything in sand
@quadflopper10126 жыл бұрын
what did you expect, i'm sure you got a 2wd slash lying around somewhere so you know, traxxas couldn't even come up with a way to keep dirt and sand out of the pinion spurgear on their 2wd vehicles why would you think this truck would be any different. i've always thought it was a howl the way they brag about their vehicles being water proof, you'd think making one dirt proof would be easier. its funny i never had a problem with dirt infiltration on my 80's vintage rc vehicles like my old ultima pro 's and rc10's, traxxas could make things sealed if they wanted to, they just don't give a shit!!!
@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
It’s just one of those things can be addressed by traxxas or the user. Yeah nothing is waterproof or sand proof when it comes to the mechanical stuff.

@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
This is a very nice truck. The reason you see me tearing stuff apart is because I drive the heck out of them. You’ve seen my video of this thing on 8s with TP motor doing a wheelie on the water right? The body on this thing is cheap that I agree with but the truck is awesome.
@kirkleaman68635 жыл бұрын
Wesley Clark traxxas is not cheap quality is better than most of the Rc out the trust me I have a lot of them arrma,Losi hpi vaterra I think traxxas are very well put together 🤙🏻

I don't understand Arrma RC people, always trying to trigger fans of Traxxas. Sounds like jealousy. It's always Arrma people too. I personally like all RCs, except for the store bought (been there, done that). It's like watching automotive racing videos. Personally the arguments annoy me. What happened to enjoying the hobby?
@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
I enjoy it quite a bit and currently own no Arrma trucks. Traxxas has stepped up quite a bit with their recent models. But I have a lot of different brands including my newest truck Tamiya Super Clodbuster and it turned out awesome I need to get video of it.

@ExocagedRC6 жыл бұрын
Actually Traxxas isn't so bad, they aren't tekno or losi but they are using beefy stuff on the newer models.
@ajallen25266 жыл бұрын
Exocaged RC - Exactly! It doesn't get any better than Traxxas for bashing. Cheap, readily available parts, endless hop-ups, and lots of versatility.
