I was thinking the exact same thing! I just bought a sealed Hobby case of Topps Series 2 from my LCS for $80/box. S2 was produced in much lower numbers than S1 and is much cheaper.

I feel like you’re better off trying to get them on eBay, I’ve gotten a lot of mega and hobby boxes at 50% or more off the going prices

I’d like to buy up a bunch of series 2. If Bobby, Julio, or York end up being an all time great, the boxes would be way higher because they’re short prints and more valuable. I’d like to buy like 30 boxes and let it sit, but that’s impossible for me.

Not sure on the odds of pulling a Mookie Chrome but I’ve opened about 10 of these with nothing. Did pull the Degrom Black Refractor of /50, sent it to psa and pulled a 9.

Chrome Update Set had 55 cards in the set. NO AUTOS. Only numbered cards were the Gold Refractor Parallel (# to 250) and the Black Refractor Parallel (# to 99) The Base packs were a set of 330 or whatever and they had several junk insert sets like the Power Players, '89 Topps Mini, Fond Farewell, etc... Also Topps released a Chrome Series 1 and 2 separately from the Mega Box Update and that is where you can find the Jose Ramirez RC.

I agree 100%. Do you see him pitching past age 38? Probably not. It's too bad his career development was so late ...throw in a half dozen or more injuries and he's now pushing 35 and he will be hard-pressed to even eclipse the century mark in wins. Maybe he should DH? 😏

It's not the only way to get the 2014 update and update chrome, I bought the complete set of both in 2014 when they came out. I think it cost me around 65 for the chrome set and around 30 for the regular update set. Also bought a betts red target rc and photo variation rc to go along with the 2014 bowman chrome auto I picked up from a Facebook group seller. Broke my heart to see him go to dodgers, but I'm holding on to those cards!

$20 was a deal when released at retail level. Investing in wax boxes for me in the 1990s never worked out, so I stopped.

I have two thirty gallon totes full of just 2014 Topps Update boxes from back when they were $15 apiece. Best buys I ever made, but too bad I used to flip two or three deGrom and Betts cards per box to afford the next one.
