I imagine that even though the trading card game is a small portion of Pokemon in general, the profit must be enormous. Consider how many boxes they sell and it's basically cardboard with ink on it. I'm sure it represents a higher profit that we think.

Most of the costs for production isnt the printing or materials, its the costs for advertising, paying of all workers and shipping.

Actually I was a small retailer once for Pokémon, each box was about 125 wholesale unless you could commit to about 50k of product a year then you’d get a 25% discount.

Already threw down more than I was willing for another booster box for Unbroken Bonds for a last run attempt at completing my set. The set's barely out for a month and already out of print is the WEIRDEST move Pokemon has done in a while.

But i mean the reason why pokemon probably did this ‘out of print’ thing is because they want to see prices rise of pokemon cards, think about how low gx cards are worth. Pokemon are trying to make many of those who buy boosters happy and get barely any good pulls, but can at least get some money back on some regular gx pulls

It’s good they’re going out of print because the market these days is so over saturated. Storefronts back in the day that we’re getting 1000 boxes are now getting 1000 cases of boxes and still aren’t breaking even

Pokemon at this point can release anything and its a 1000% given they will make profit no matter what over there competition and they know this full and well. Cards/VideoGame's/Plush/toys/Movies/Collectibles/Cheap Japan/American trinkets/ endorsements and a whole lot of things I'm not even listing. on every age level in every market just about given the nature of Pokemon itself Its not wonder why they can just "Mail It In" at times and never really have to worry about any aspect of there merch all that much.
