I love how the MPAA logo appears for like 1 second as though it were spliced on [Edit: It more than likely WAS]

I remembered this movie since I was 6 in 2014. I also have the 1993 American VHS of this.

I’ve never seen this version before. It has the Astral Films Limited logo at the beginning that you don’t see them too often as well as the 1968 Paramount logo. The US release doesn’t have the Astral Films logo, it just starts with the same logo, and that’s it. The closing has the MPAA rating for about a second and then it goes away. This is why you don’t see them anymore. This was taken directly from 16mm film prints in which you don’t see them on any of the US home video releases, because Paramount Home Video released this on VHS and Betamax in the US around 1980 or 1981 since they used the video tape master rather than film. Later releases were digitally remastered and fully restored, so does DVD, Blu-Ray and digital releases.

Just to clarify, Astral Films was a Canadian film and media company, not American. Also, a lot of these Astral Video releases use their film logo rather than a video logo until around 1985-1990.

MTN Productions The master on this copy was also used for the 1979 Paramount Home Video big-box VHS, which uses the "Boring Mountain" logo, before they used the "Glowing Mountain" logo in the early 1980s.

Interesting how this release appears to use a different film print unlike the USA Paramount releases. The fact Astral used a faded 16mm print version reminds me of the way "The Hobbit" [the Rankin Bass special] looked on a VHS release released by MNTEX.

AndrewsMagicandMore This was also the print used for the oldest VHS version of the movie (the original 1970's "big gatefold box" versions dating from 1977-1979 with the "Boring Mountain" logo at the beginning).

AndrewsMagicandMore Like Astral did, Paramount also used the same faded 16mm print version of this film on their original VHS of the movie in 1979 with the "Boring Mountain" logo at the beginning of the VHS.

@@princessdaisytherarevhscol4039 However, the Paramount releases of the film starting with the 1981 LaserDisc have used a different telecine transfer which have been used for all of the other VHS releases up until 1999.

Do you really HAVE to put up "R.I.P" comments on VHS uploads? Is that really necessary? Is this your way of being a "Debbie Downer"? Or are you a sadist?

No seriously it really looks like the film was placed somewhere in a dusty icky place like how most public domain VHS companies sources their Cartoon film reels

Did Astral distribute Paramount releases in general in Canada during this time? or was it just this one release that they distributed on video there in the 80s.
