I think one of the problem was compared to the last models, that the lightning conditions were diffrent this time and its hard to get the right light onto them, so they can fit better into the 3 dimensional space.. It was easier last time cause we had daylight and now it was very dark + smokey, so thats kinda hard to transfer on the models.. But I have no excuse for the models itself at some point. So Im not sure if we can blame covid for that or not.. so yeah happens :7

Also AR is INSANLY dependent on environment, 3D in general is hard, 3D that needs to be tested with lighting setups that so they can recreate them. Materials that will react too the environment the fact these models did not just start flying all around the room is a testament too how absolutely talented an amazing this was. I cant describe how without them being able to do a bunch of test... as a 3D character artist i have 0 clue how they pulled this off, like legit 0 clue.

There are two theories basically 1. The AR didn't render out fully, a comp of their dis functioned at the crucial time... due to which the eyes didn't render 2. Somehow the entire plan failed at a core time.. due to which this one was used as back up plan... Surely this is not what riot wanted to present to us.... They messed it up somehow. the biggest trick in making CGI look good is good lighting (that's why 4:36 looks miles better than 4:39). But considering none of the KDA girls project shadows and the lighting of the stage works in a way that the floor looks bright, therefore the lack of shadow is much more noticeable... it makes the performance unsalvageable

I'm sure Riot was planning something really great for this year's presentation and these holograms were like the back up plan due to Corona. I've would loved to see Miyeon, Soyeon, Madison and Jaira on stage next to Lexie Liu. It's 100% an effect of pandemic, which makes organizing something of such scale - nearly impossible, for the last Worlds they had to bring equipment and specialists from around the globe, not to mention performers. Next Worlds are confirmed to be in China again and I'm certain that they will go all out, not only to reclaim their own standard, but also to set the bar even higher.

Think about this: if it weren't for COVID the venue itself would probably have been somewhere else, with a completely different tech setup and infrastructure. The live performance would have been completely different as well, which in turn mean that the visuals would be different. I'm guessing what happened is they had to rush to get something at all for the ceremony, hence why it looks so "cheap" compared to previous years.
