Opening Day At Glen Huntly Station

In this video, we view some trains on the opening day of the new Glen Huntly Station. This video includes a tour of the station plus a throwback to the old Glenhuntly Station. Hope you enjoy the video!

The Horizontal pillars are cool in my opinion, They are there to reinforce the trench wall from collapsing due to the ground conditions

I believe the ground is soft and muddy in that region so they would definitely need additional support for that! :)

I must say I do love the new station and your tour of it, including the tram stop outside. Was kinda hoping for some tramspotting too though. But I'll certainly miss the old station and tram square though. Knew you'd have a video of the opening day for the new station today. Thanks again as always Straya Trains! Can't wait to head down and check it out for myself.

You are right about the emergency egress for platform 3. For platforms 1 and 2 it's off the up end of the platform and the stairs go up to Neerim rd.

I sometimes wonder why they don't make use of that space above the trench for more car parks or something.

An express train on the old line/stattion combo would be so slow you could force the door open and step out onto the platform with a slow and casual walk. Pior to that the Tram/Train track intersection was the instigator of a many announcements to cancel trains for the morning as a Tram had derailed at GlenHuntly station

Nice video of the new station, I look forward to seeing it myself when I get the chance. The station at platform level gives me Cheltenham vibes but with a smaller undercover area under the concourse/roadway.

My Video of Glen Huntly station is been uploaded as we speak hope you will enjoy at let me know I just missed you I left at 8:30am and got back at Glen Huntly at 10:41am me and a could of my friends were there at 4:00am and filmed the first Flinders Street service and Frankston service stopping at the station and film the first express service going through the station at track speed And great video as always

Interesting that some of the express trains sometimes run through platform 2 (mostly) but sometimes through platform 1. It seems the only time trains stop at platform 2 is when the express uses the 1 track (which seems slightly odd to switch between the two). Would it be something to do with all express trains now stopping at Moorabbin.

In terms of the train station build, it looks great, and to me, this is how every train station should be built in Melbourne, especially if they have a problem level crossing right there. Sky rail is fine on certain lines (upfield line as an example)

Skyrail is significantly better due to the open space underneath. The trench still leaves a scar in the neighbourhood whereas skyrail doesn't

@@hugomal yes I agree, I think lines such as upfield, lilydale, Alamein, glen waverley, hurstbridge, mernda, Sandringham, Cranbourne having sky rail makes sense. Sunbury, pakenham, craigieburn metro lines that share V/line and occasional freight trains should have separate skyrail and underground lines, the same should apply for the lines to Wyndham vale and melton. But that’s just me.

8:55 I just don’t get this. I campaigned for exits on both sides of the road at Murrumbeena and it was studiously ignored. It’s even harder to explain at Glenhuntly. What’s the point of removing “dangerous level crossings” if a pedestrian gets smeared by a bus or tram, running across the road to catch a train when a second access point could easily have been provided? It beggars belief.

In an ideal world, it should have been done. But, Glenhuntly road is only 1-lane each way so it's very easy to cross, and there is a pedestrian crossing right there. Definitely needed 2 entrances at Ormond due to the width of North Road. I would love to see an entrance on the north side of Glenhuntly road, but I'm guessing it would have added millions of dollars to the budget.

Definitely needs a set of lifts on the northern side of Glen huntly Road. Why was the platform placed that so much extends to the north and the stairs a lifts are at the southern end. It makes no sense.
