Managed to do the glitch,it still works. The only reason I struggled so much making it work,was because I had torch god's favor on(preventing me from using standard campfires). Which means,either you only need the normal campfire to make this work,or it's just more difficult with the other variants. It was funny to make,great video.Even explained really well!

My favourite part of the glitch is its ability to duplicate chests. And fountains. And monoliths. And statues (And transmute statues into other statues while duplicating itself.). And pylons. Some other things caused crashing after two attempts, like party centers, safes, butterfly jars, bewitching tables... It also doesn't work on critter cages, as far as I can tell; more's the pity. Some other things are unaffected besides visually, as well. I think the best option for duping for profit pre-Hardmode is probably the Golf Chest (yes, with an 'f') because chests yield multiple each time, and Golf Chests are worth 60s. Do some putts into a cup down a hellivator, buy a golf chest, and you'll be raking in the platinums in no time. The Golden Chest would probably be one of the best once Hardmode has begun, though.

The whole "Crashing after two attempts" thing is so bizarre. I would have made a video on using it to duplicate any furniture bigger than 1x1 if it wasn't for that. It's like "Transmute, Transmute, pop!" Game explodes. Ironically enough I wonder if 1.4.5 might make some things more stable, and therefore more reliable to glitch.

I can confirm this is doable in version 1.4.4! I used SMW_Jb05's single-player setup, did the campfire glitch (don't forget to right click on the campfire y'all), and mined up the ice chest before I even entered hardmode. As someone who's already beat the moonlord on several other save files, I'm looking forward to seeing how broken progression will become with this sequence break!

Glad you figured it out! What you experienced was the concept of Fuel- The Wooden Door has no fuel to give (It has a low sprite "FrameY" value, as it's at the very bottom of the sheet.) When you have no fuel, you toggle between the same two states. bBut a Boreal door works as fuel (Fairly large "FrameY" value.) And, when you have fuel, you can keep incrementing in the same direction, before fuel runs out and you start incrementing back and fourth again.

Unfortunately, piggy banks are not actually storage containers, and just open _your_ inventory when you click them. So, nothing particularly of note happens.

It'd be its own chest, if memory serves. The left side of the chest is what seems to be its "anchor", if that makes sense. So, the right side of a chest doesn't do much, the left side still functions.

Here's the lore for you: Much of this started with a de-sync glitched called "Torch Storage", which led to some very early furniture Transmutations. (This whole arc happened during a Multiplayer playthrough where we had extra time due to staggered boss progression.) The first item transmutation was a Soul of Sight, after someone posted a glitch world seed on Reddit which basically had a naturally-generated Prong Glitch. (And the Prong Glitch itself was derived from there). After that, several months of shenanigans led to two years of educated guesswork and more experimentation led to modern Transmutation.

Okay, so for some reason, my campfire and bast statue are going invisible, they're both still there, but they're invisible. When flicking the switch, it doesn't effect the chest either, for the most part. I say for yhe most part because I got the chest duplication thing to happen by accident, but I can't seem to repeat that either.

Make sure you start with the Bast in the "off" state, as doing it the other way simply makes a visually-glitched campfire which isn't as useful.

well, me either. However, I did the glitch multiple times after, and it consistently gave me loot. I even got the infinite chests. So, it works most of the time, but it failed on my first try. I did do the glitch on pre-hardmode, which might have triggered something, but I doubt it given it worked on later tries@@EthyrielY

Did you use the Philospher's Stone glitch and the Campfire Glitch? Both are required for this to work. Since you're never supposed to be able to remove a chest that has stuff in it in any way, it wouldn't be weird if the stuff stays there forever, i doubt there would be a check for if the chest is still there since it's supposed to not be removable in any way

Yes. Items aren't actually stored in the chest, but in the spot the chest is at. You need to place the chest to actually access the items though.

That would be the smartest way to hide items and such, just “delete” the chest, memorize the location then open it up later on a server and have like, idk rods of discord or secret stuff in there. (Just remembered piggy banks exist soooo…)

You could try it, though I think you'd be at risk of the data getting overridden if there isn't a chest there and something else gets placed there. I honestly haven't played around with chests in long enough to know for sure, though. It's something worth giving a go!

Does this only work on biome chests specifically? because every time I try to do this on golden chest, the chest would just get cut in half and would only dupe the gold chest but the chest doesn't get mined and lags my game. Edit: nvm, I was a moron and was supposed to hit the bottom corner of the chest

Actually, good know what specifically causes it to dupe vs. break! I usually just poked the chest until it eventually popped. (Or, if I really caused it to get out of sorts, I'd just re-log since that can fix it if you accidentally get a chest stuck in a weird de-synced state. Which, can happen sometimes.)

what happens if you replace the chest but its offset by 1 block? will it still open with the loot? is it possible to have 2 "spiritual" chests intersecting?

Hrmm, I haven't tried that exact scenario, but let me see what I can recall from memory. The bottom-left tile seemed to be the most important to the chest, so if you put another piece of storage (i.e. a dresser) so that its bottom-left tile intersected the bottom-left tile of where a chest would, it would inherted its itself. In a similar vein, if you took the right half of a chest, and made it so that its left side was replaced by another piece of storage (i.e. a dresser), clicking the chest would access the dresser instead (as the game seems to check the bottom-left tile when doing stuff with containers.) Out of everything I've experimented with, it's been awhile since I last dabbled in chest shenanigans. But hopefully this helps sate your curiosity some!

It's the head of a Bast Statue, created using glitches. Any blocks work for the stuff surrounding it. Basically, everything else can be swapped out, except for the Bast Statue and the regular Campfire. Those are the secret sauce that make this glitch work. Try going into multiplayer, performing the Campfire glitch on the chest, and then filling in blocks over where the chest is. By filling in blocks over the chest, that should force it to re-sync, and then you can try to place a chest back down. (Though the items might be gone, it seems to be hit or miss.)

What is the solution to when the chest just keeps giving you chests when you mine it and doesn't break completly

Hrmm... I usually do these things, in no specific order: 1.) Blockswapping the chest with one you can open normally (the game may or may not let you do this) 2.) Placing blocks nearby to see what happens 3.) Restarting and re-joinging the world. Since chest data is persistent, you can just pick up where you left off. Sometimes there super weird de-syncs while trying this and relogging / re-starting fixes things juuust enough to keep going.
