Given what friends preserving quadraphonic 8 tracks have told me, these 8 tracks will have needed a lot of work. The foam pad will have crumbled away, and the splice will need renewing before it comes undone. Some tapes need respooling (maybe these people just reject those since the tape content is irrelevant), and the lubricant that allows pulling from the reel centre may either need replacing or redistributing. 8 track is definitely not an archival format.

Back in the dim dark ages of the 80's when I first started working, there was a gentleman in the office who'd, every payday, make his way of to his favorite record store. About an hour later he'd return with several bags each containing a couple of LP records. I once asked him how many records he had, his reply has stayed with me all these years. It was "I don't know. What I do know is I've got several lifetimes worth of music and memories here. I'm going to continue to buy and listen to all this beautiful music until I die." I would like to thank you for teaching us about all these different "vintage" formats and showing yourself tinkering with broken players. As a matter of fact, I learned from the techniques you used to fix broken cassette players and successfully fixed my grandma's Walkman (yes, she still uses cassettes and we prefer it that way because digital devices are confusing for her and she gets stressed easily)! As per your videos, of course the belt had turned into sticky paste, so I replaced it with a rubber band (not everyone has spare Walkman belts on hand and my grandma was leaving for vacation the next day). Unfortunately the motor doesn't have as much torque as it used to so it sometimes gets stuck on really old tapes, but for the most part it works brilliantly!

@@ParabolicLabs Possibly not my cup of tea, but great that folk are doing it anyway. Watching (repeats) of Wheeler Dealers taking out an in-car Radio Casette -"no-one listens to Cassettes anymore !' (said Ed), well nothing dates like a makeover show !!

When you recall they could record images before sound it kind of makes sense.

I really enjoy these types of reviews (sure, not my favorite - but very very interesting and a great change of pace) - thanks for doing this!

Saturday morning is only Saturday morning with a new techmoan. Oh NO reel to reel - I spend my days looking at reel to reels available for sale (while in reality the thing thats stopping me is why? What would I use such an expensive thing for?) I’ve got my record player a nice ‘dual ‘ I refurbished myself my minidisc and ……. Well not yet a reel to reel . The quality of reel to reel is drawing me in ……. lol. Thanks David 🏴

Its just so great to see all these formats making a comeback! Still got lots of 12inch albums and singles from the 1980'S. Now I just need a decent deck to play them on. Looks like my wallet will suffer again! 😅 Been following your channel for a few years now and its getting better and better! Keep up the great content. Cheers 😁👌👏👏

Huh, it's rather fitting how Nathan wrote about dead media on a dead medium. Quite the style.

The Pointer Sisters Break Out album is my favorite. I’ve never seen an 8 track version of that album. I would have bought it even though I don’t have a player nor do I need an 8 track. That was awesome to see

@@deadmediatapes I love that you combined the 1983 version with “Nightline” and the 1984 version with the remix of “I’m So Excited”.

@@deadmediatapes Randy Crawford’s version is good. My favorite track is Telegraph Your Love and then Dance Electric. There isn’t one song on that album I don’t like.
