The events of the last year have shaken democracy to its core, and upended a world order that was already unsettled. Looking ahead, it’s anybody’s guess as to just how the geopolitical puzzle will fit together again. What might be the new balance of power, and how much weight will democracy have in it?

Excellent. Prof Sachs not only brilliant but brave. That is a role of intellectuals. But very few have the guts. Much easier to write books about the power of free markets. Wisdom does not exist in 🇺🇸 politics only cowboy mentality of aggression violence domination power money. I guess we are Sparta.

The lady spoke about onion is absolutely right. Without equity there is no true democracy! The reversal in China in the last 10 years in respect of democracy is also due to the polarization in the Chinese society. Very few scholars talk about this.

Democracy is the people, and it needs good education to rediscover the democracy in people, both the wealthy and poor. And equality is democracy. The best education for democracy to prevail and orderly of the world, is to having deep faith in karma of good begets good and bad begets bad in matter of time and conditions. Conversely, disregard the deep faith in karma of each and everyone, the world will never be in orderly and happiness. Thus karma and courtesy education is the key to safe the world.

africa continent hasn't really known peace.. they wouldnt be invested until they see security and productivity and innovation from democracy, even people to people relations arent really established

left and right exists on a spectrum and is just a summary. the main fears of the worst governance is complete control and the scale of punishment. the waring left and right is about the perception of whether governance is good governance, control, or punishment

At the end of a rainbow is a pot of gold. At the end of democracy is autocracy. Rainbow and democracy offer hope of something better to come. When democracy wins, it means society has reached the end of democracy. Therefore, the reward is autocracy/gold.

China has elections; its communist party is larger than all other parties in the world combined; the diversity within the communist party is way broader than the two parties in the US; 99.9% of the communist party members come from the grassroots and the president is going to be one of them, i.e., the party is from the people, is part of the people; the president must go through a series of tough training and practice before being qualified to be the president; the communist party listens to the people way more than the western parties. How can this not be a democracy? How can the west say they are a democracy given today's situation?
