Great idea Ed to open this and give it a spin , I’m occasionally opening things as well, no sense letting the guy who buys it at the yard sale my kids will have with my stuff have all the fun (after I fall down the attic stairs in 10-15 years )🤣- TCB ⚡️

Wow, what a fantastic record Ed. I love the rock 'n roll years but this has to be Elvis' best release... it's absolutely perfect! I've been so tempted to purchase the Mobile Fidelity releases, but just the thought of only having three, (or four) tracks on each side has always put doubt in my mind. However, this 1981 LP negates that and it looks to be a super record to own! Thank you Ed, it will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the overall sound compared to the other versions, (Friday Music etc) that you mentioned. Steve (UK)

Good to see you back, Ed! Before I bought the two LP Mofi set, I previously looked at this version. I passed initially because of the price, but it looks amazing. I bet it sounds equally the same.

Small world! Here I am on the other side of the world, and I have just finished playing this LP as the background to a video of my vintage scrapbooks. Sub Woofer? My husband had two of those boneshakers, more for his surround sound movie set up, but the records sure sounded good too!

So much fuller sound, as JD would say often, with the subwoofer. Kinda reminds me of the old floor model stereos.

I've bought this beauty when it came out 1981. Imo the Sound-Quality is much better than the overpriced MoFi DoVinyl Edition. Thanks Ed!

Great. fantastic and Classic album. I hope you enjoy the Master Recording album. You really have some of the best records on the Memphis Sessions, truly a Masterpiece Studio Recordings and every song is outstanding. Of course, In the Ghetto was I would call, Elvis' comeback Single release, and from then on, back in business in the top hits category. I enjoyed you sharing. Thanks, Ed.

I’d give that nod to “If I Can Dream”, but all the same, “In The Ghetto” a major hit single in the great year of 1969, Billboard #3, Cashbox #1. 😊

@@FrankieLovesElvis If I Can Dream was on the charts for 3 months peaking at #12 on Billboard. The only downside to the single If I Can Dream was placing Edge of Reality, which would be suited more for an album track, with interesting jazz arrangement.

@ But it peaked at #12 in February 1969. And “Edge of Reality” is an awesome underrated track, but was placed as the flip to promote, “Live A Little, Love A Little”!!! 😊

And let’s not forget, “If I Can Dream” peaked at #11 in Cashbox!!! 😊👍

@@FrankieLovesElvis Well said. I always loved Cashbox over Billboard. The 1950's saw Cashbox do amazing chart positions on records (both sides of the record). Billboard was more lazy and only deemed the A-Side will be granted chart position. Then it got crazier with Billboard siding in with American DJ's on the airplay of records, and the total sales going into stores as opposed to actually buying the records. During the Beatlemania and Ed Sullivan Show reaching 50 million American audiences, Twist and Shout was claimed by Billboard at #2. I Want to Hold Your Hand at #1. Twist and Shout was # 1 with Cashbox. In England, with a much lower population than the USA, Twist and Shout was the #1 EP and the rights to distribute the record was on Tollie Records. Billboard found that Twist and Shout would peak at #2 and never top the charts, in spite of Beatlemania worldwide with fans buying records by the millions. Billboard is a strange Company of politicians. That's how I see Billboard vs. Cashbox.

I have both the recent one step and the 1981 Mobile Fidelity. They are very different. IMO: The one step is more detailed and leans toward high end. A nice clean presentation. The 81’ MSFL is has a lush deep mellow sound without losing much detail. The one step is live in your face and the 81’ delivers a lovely hi-fi vibe. Enjoy both!

I have all the Elvis records from Speakers Corner and in my opinion they did a great job. All the covers are identical to the original ones and the sound is really amazing! Please let us know how the sound of the Mobile Fidelity release is. Great video, Ed. Thanks for sharing.

Small suggestion Ed when you open a vinyl or CD. Instead of using a razor to open it which sometimes can damage what's inside, try using a plectrum. Same result but with far less damage ! Take care Ed !

Phenomenal album, but my only complaint about the original mix was/is it is extremely Bass heavy (almost overload) and the drums were mixed too low, but all the same, it’s pretty much a perfect album!!! Enjoy your record my friend. 😊

I bought mine at a secondhand bookstore for aud$30 back in 1988. I thought that was expensive at the time. Glad I did. Like to hear your thoughts? Plus did the box set ever resolved the warped issues?
