Wrong. You shouldn't trust your own personal experience, because our brain gets it wrong all the time. People have biases, they are affected by stress, emotions, they misinterpret, misremember, hallucinate, exaggerate etc. And because it is the case that our brain is so unreliable, you need external (reliable) evidence to show that your interpretation of your experience is accurate and correct. So can you tell me what reliable method you use to know that your conclusion is right?

Dismissive, domineering, and accusatory parents are partially why kids stop confiding or won't confide in their parents. I feel for Mary and Wesley having to deal with these things on their own. My grandmother had a new house built in 1983. Large house, brick fireplace, like the original house, white wood. No "Poltergeist" activity at all!

RIP Jesse, Carol, and Aunt Mary Fox!My mom's two of three brothers, Richard and Danny, passed away in August and shortly thereafter.(October) We lived in the same house, two decades apart, next to a people's cemetary, and we had an in-ground pool, brick house. No "Poltergeist"-like problems. Or the land (new house being built in 1983/84.) A wood house, white paint, a brick fireplace(both houses). The cemetary is quiet, calming, and pretty. I cry now, as I miss my maternal grandparents, who could cut a rug! Both grandparents were Irish(USA-born) I read "Pet Sematary" by Stephen King in autumn, 1983; that book scared me, changed my feelings(somewhat) about living next to the cemetary. My grandmother would grow tomatoes and mint(great in iced tea!) near the cemetary wall. I still like Mr. KIng's books/adapted movies.

I lived next to a people's cemetary from 1978-1983, no problems! My Irish, maternal grandparents! My mom and her three(now one) brothers lived there two decades before. They had an in-ground pool, "far out" A nice ranch-style, brick house. My dad, Stanley, of Polish heritage, likes to scare me, he's still on this earth. He built our A-Frame in the 1960s. Brick fireplace. Mom, my siblings. Then her parents.

Also, it was interesting to read that Mary(sister) was going to read "The Amityville Horror"(I don't know if it is haunted, but it is scary. The author, Jay Anson, died on March 12, 1980. He also wrote "666" about aother (alleged) haunted house. The murderer, Ron DeFeo, Jr. died on March 12, 2021.

I have a hard time understanding how you jump to assuming the noise is from the 17 year old "running around the house" at night. That's not typical teenage behavior and given the fact the 17 year old was parentified and taking care of the younger sibling I would assume they were too tired for such shenanigans and that the youngest was the more likely culprit. Also if I trusted my 17 year old with the younger kid to that extent, I would have listened to what she was saying instead of assuming she was running around at night like a toddler. Supernatural causes aside, unknown noises at night could indicate other problems with the house or animal infestations that needed dealing with not blamed on a nearly adult child "running around".

I felt protected and positive about the afterlife. I am Roman Catholic(I was very active in my and my maternal grandparent's parish at the time. I pray before, during and after watching these and similar, videos, to protect myself. When we lived next to the people's cemetary, it is pretty and has a calming vibe about it. It still does. They are buried there now. I visit their graves and cry; I miss them a great deal, especially my grandmother! No hauntings while living there or in the new house that was being built in 1983/84. Both grandparents were Irish! Mom and her three(now, one) brothers lived there, next to the cemetary, several decades before I moved in(1978-83, that house, 1984-89, new house). In-ground pool at the first house. Gram grew tomatoes and mint(great for iced tea) next to the cemetary wall(stone). Not true at all. My husband and I witnessed 3 things that we couldn't explain while he was in the ICU after having major surgery. It followed us home. The day that he was released, a nurse came to our house for home care - we all witnessed an event then. The events weren't scary - just weird.
