This video was uploaded on the 35th anniversary of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (which is a couple months before what would be the 10th anniversary of the 25th anniversary home DVD and video releases on May 7), which was just exactly a year before the 10th anniversary of Inspector Gadget 2.

I love this movie. Every time I sing the main title which is Once Upon A Dream, I think about my sister, my 2 nieces and my mother.

memorylanechannel, thank you very much for putting these videos up. Disney went downhill in the mid 2000s and you can hardly find anything good by them. When I watch movies like Sleeping Beauty, Lion King, etc. I'm saying in my head "Why can't Disney be like this now?" This is the main reason why I subscribed to you, to get nostalgia back in my brain.

Very interestingly, this film and Pinocchio were the only 2 that were released on home video early on in the mid 80's that had their last theatrical re-releases in the early in mid 90's (Pinocchio was re-released in 1992, while Sleeping Beauty was re-released in both 1992 and 1995). No other Disney film did that,

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and The Aristocats were re-released theatrically in the 80's [Snow White was in 1983 and 1987 (50th anniversary) and The Aristocats was in 80 (and 87 as well)], but they weren't on home video at the time, except for the Sing Along Song VHSs. And as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs had its last theatrical re-release in 1993, it finally released on video in 1994, starting the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection, while The Aristocats was released on video a couple years later in 1996.

Does it? I first saw that logo on the 1988 VHS of Alice In Wonderland, which was where I first saw that film (I still own that VHS, but I have several other releases as well).

You know this VHS actually came out the same day Walt Disney Home Video's famous "Sorcerer Mickey" animated logo debuted? Most other new releases at this time also had those alternate red warning screens and the video dealer announcement (like the first "Sing Along Songs" release). However, I imagine they continued using the 1984 Classics diamond logo because it probably wouldn't have made much sense to update that only two years after its' debut (they waited until 1988 to replace it.)
@thememorylanechannel

I think it's the same year, not the same day. Unless you know what video was released simultaneously, with Sleeping Beauty, that has the "Sorcerer Mickey" logo.
@ZakWolf
@ZakWolf 10 жыл бұрын
thememorylanechannel It was indeed the same year; I do know the CLG website says the "Sorcerer Mickey" logo's debut was on October 14, 1986. It generally lists some of these logos' debuts by release date (like the "Sorcerer Mickey" Classics variant having a debut date of October 4, 1988.)

***** I actually thought that video dealer announcement was from 1986. So far it only appeared on fall 1986 releases.

I didn't know that! But I HAVE seen the first version of the first Sing Along Songs video. And I do know this VHS was the best-selling one of 1986 [10 years later, that was the case for the Toy Story home video, released on October 29, a few days after the 14th (the 10th anniversary of the Sleeping Beauty 1986 VHS at the time, AND a year before it released on the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection), and a year before the 20th anniversary of Halloween Is Grinch Night, which means the 1986 VHS was released a year before that special's 10th anniversary] and the first to be released in Hi-Fi Stereo. It was also where I first saw that Video Dealer Announcement, though I first had seen the alternate red warning screens on the Silly Symphonies VHS for Walt Disney Cartoon Classics (the first VHS in that series I watched). And I had first seen Sleeping Beauty on the 1997 VHS, while before that, it was on that Beauty and the Beast trailer from the Jungle Book 1991 VHS [which was where I first saw THAT film (I have the 30th anniversary edition VHS as well)]. Also, the Sleeping Beauty 1986 VHS was the only pre-1988 VHS of the Walt Disney Classics that used a distribution logo during the opening credits. The others used no logos or just the fanfare with a blank screen until the 'Walt Disney Presents' card showed up [that was the case for the 1986-1992 VHSs of Alice In Wonderland (except for one version of the 1988 VHS), and the 1987 VHS of Lady and the Tramp]. And another thing, while I now know the date the 1986 "Sorcerer Mickey" was first used on, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what VHS that released on that date that was the first one that used that logo. So I really need to know.

This opens similar to the "Pinocchio" re-issue that same year except the Classics logo doesn't freeze for 10 seconds.

Because they wanted to earn money from their re-releases of their classic animated films. They thought bringing any of them out on home video early would end their lives as theatrical re-releases. And another reasons is they were the foundation upon which the Disney company was built.

@arenjtumastens

Yeah, of course! BUT, there WERE some copies of the Sleeping Beauty 1986 VHS that were released in 1987 (a year before the film would be released on the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection) that had a completely different opening than the 1986 version. They were something like this: 1. 1984 FBI Warning Screens 2. 1984 Walt Disney Classics logo 3. Buena Vista logo 4. Opening Credits.

Magic, excitement, wonders, imagination, romance, music, action, fantasy, thrills, and adventures. Sleeping Beauty, based on a fairy tale with the same name. Princess Aurora/Briar Rose, King Stefan, Queen Leah, King Hubert, Prince Phillip, Flora, Faun, Merryweather, and Maleficent. And the song in the beginning and the end is beautiful, "Once Upon a Dream." I had that movie on a video tape a long time ago when I was little until I got it on DVD. I used to be scared of Maleficent because she was terrifying and wicked, but now I'm not scared of her anymore. Took me some time to work up the courage to face her and other villains that as wicked and evil as she. I still believe in fairies and magic because I refuse to grow up and forget about the precious things I knew, especially those from my childhood. Think about your childhood dreams and wishes 🪄🧙🧙‍♂🧙‍♀🏰🎼🎵🎶💎👑🧚🧚‍♂🧚‍♀🌹🪡🐲🐉☀⭐🌟🌠✴

The movie's quality on this home video release is god-awful for 2 reasons. 1. The picture quality had decayed elements on it (which was taken from the film's first theatrical release). 2. The audio quality had some strange background noises throughout the soundtrack (the noises I'm referring to are Rice Krispies-like sounds and rumbling). But the film's quality on the 1997 Masterpiece Collection VHS release wasn't so bad for what I remember.

I highly disagree as I like the original picture and audio quality for the film on this VHS. And the 1997 version was alright as well. I currently have the Widescreen Edition version of that release. Side note: about the 1997 VHS, I always found it weird that Maleficent and her raven were used on the spine of that VHS casing. Wonder why they did that.

@@arenjtumastensWell, I didn't realize old movies are so many years ago when they run in theaters back in the days, and after many years later, I learned that films became dirty in picture quality after it's first theatrical release. And now, thankfully, we have something called, "film preservation" that cleans up old movies and give them that HD/HQ feel.
@arenjtumastens
@arenjtumastens Жыл бұрын
@@Kevin-xv9pm yeah. Though sometimes the picture remastering/restoration goes a bit overboard. And it makes the film itself look nothing like what it originally was. So I myself go for the versions that don't have the picture quality too new-looking. Some with the complete original quality, and most with a combination of both the original and a bit of remastering, leaving it more faithful to the original picture.
