Your Five Below theory definitely makes sense! Honestly, my first thought was that they reminded me of the og G2 blind bag pets with how basic their designs were so I wondered if maybe we'd see more generic blind box pets in Wave 4 or something. But with the personality eye types, I can definitely see the Five Below parallel! (Although I do hope they add SOMETHING to these prototypes since I personally find them a little ~too~ basic lol) I'm kinda obsessed with the factory error Labradoodle though 😂 makes them extra unique!

I got a box of KX LPS at Walmart and ended up getting the alpaca or llama whatever it is, but I got one that said "2009 Hasbro" and one that said "2024 Hasbro". The 2024 one looked lower quality even though it was supposed to be the new one. I posted about on reddit. Another weird thing was the axolotl I compared the new one I got to the one I had that was ES and the KX one had different called gills the KX was pinker than purple, so I was thinking that maybe they are changing them because of the feedback they are getting from people, but they end up messing it up, so that's my theory.

That's exactly what I was thinking! They remind me so much of the disco pets! If it makes you feel better though even a lot of people in the US don't have access to five below :') I live nowhere near one and haven't had the chance to ever even look for lps since the nooks and disco pets appeared. I'm super lucky to have a friend who lives by one and she found them for me, but it sucks. I don't even live by a target or walmart so we have to drive to another state just to look for lps in person. If it's that bad for me I can't even imagine how people outside of the US feel 😭 Also if anyone's mad at you for ordering multiple that's ridiculous. In 2022 there was a listing with 900 of the sparkle longhair cat in stock so I bought 20 purely because I found it funny 💀 I ended up giving some to a bunch of my friends at lpscon that year so I have less of an army now though 💔 This was such a good haul! I missed all the mystery ones and spent days checking constantly and still somehow managed to miss the restock 😭 I'm holding out hope that they restock again

Edit: 10:00 also if you look at the body itself you can tell that the 'more painted' one has actually a brown base, so technically only the while and tan is painted. It's interesting to me why there are both body variants!

For the fakes there will be no gloss in the eyes and also the fakes would usually have white pegs and for the real ones they would have a gloss in there eyes and a clear peg I believe there’s more ways to tell but that’s how I know

I wonder if maybe this is an LPSLoverQA sort of thing? They're super cute and I hope they're real but the goat and wolfcat are 100% fakes (they've got weird shallow eyes that are an instant clock for me) and the paint mistakes on the mystery pet also look more like fake LPS mistakes than Basic Fun mistakes, but the molds themselves seem super good, especially on the Labrador, so maybe they are just rejects from upcoming exclusive sets. They seem like they're worth seeking out regardless though.

I kinda hate the take that bright colors are necessary to appeal to younger buyers bc we all as kids still loved and bought the old lps even w their neutral color palettes. Speaking for myself here and probably many others,,when I was little I loved and cute soft colors the old lps had. I don’t remember wanting extremely bright colors as a young child. I seriously wish they would stop with the bright/ neon colors. It’s not necessary!
