Opening Up About Australia While Building A Desk and speaking a tiny bit of Spanish. Sorry.
I'm from Finland and lived in Ireland for over 12 years, then I went to Australia and came back to Ireland.

We share some things in common: I'm Australian and also lived in Finland and speak Finnish (and my great-great-great-etc-etc grandmother was Irish).

I know exactly how you felt. At the end everything is just a scenography and it is the friends and people that matter IMHO :)

Yeah Australian culture is a bit lost. Who are we? I don't know. Australia would not be one of the cultures that I would be interested in if I wasn't Australian (I'm not even interested in it and I am an Australian). Don't get me wrong, I like the landscape, but the society itself, not so much. How about some more videos in Finnish?

Oh, to be a polyglot. Did I hear an Irish accent slip in there, when you spoke about Dublin? Wow.

I am dual citizen of Finland and Australia, now living in South East Asia. I moved to Australia after a year in Singapore. I liked Singapore and wanted to stay there but my wife wanted to move to Australia. So, we moved. I never felt like at home in Australia: I did not like the country so I moved away after 12 years there. I did not like the long distances and the mentality of people and society in general even though I found some like-minded friens there. I am still dual citizen of Finland and Australia.

I don't know why but in Australia I was treated like a criminal, for example when I was riding my bicycle on the roads, I was yelled and thrown with empty bottles or apple cores. When I went to a shop carrying a medium size empty backpack, I was often stopped for a bag check and they spoke in a very unfriendly tone tone to me. Also at the airports I was ordered to a special security check and inside the plane a stewardess was yelling at me for sitting in the same row with a child. I did not know that when booking and there were 2 empty seats between us. I a restaurant I was asked to present a letter from a doctor when I asked for vegan food. I bought a house there and never could trust neighbours. They were moving the border marks and refused to pay for the fence that I wanted to build between us. Crazy and unfriendly country to me.

I am from the United States, I was born in the United States, but I have lived in other states in the United States, and now I live in one more state, still in the United States. Moving is exhausting, and I never left the United States. Although I have been to Denmark, Germany, Bermuda, Mexico, Austria, and Canada, none of them were the United States, where I live :)

Jep, ja sait ton uuden työpaikan vähän niin kun huonoon aikaan, kun just olit muuttanut toiselle puolen maailmaa. Ehditkö muuten Australiassa olla töissä, vai miten sinne pystyit muuttamaan? Australiassahan on aika kovat vaatimukset maahanmuutolle.

I totally understand you. I'm currently living in Canada (I'm from Spain and I also lived in Austria and Scotland) and I'm experienced the same as you in Australia, this country is really different of what I thought it will be. I know this situation is not helping but I miss too much Europe and the culture there. Btw, nice desk! ;)

Australia isn't an easy place to come to. It's expensive, it's hard to travel between cities and it's not easy to find opportunities likes jobs or to meet people. Lots of people from Europe come here because it's very fashionable and many just have the typical backpacker experience of partying, working shitty jobs and hanging out with other back packers. Some people love that, others don't. Think carefully before you travel here and about the kind of experience you want to have. I would strongly advise you if you are not single, not travel here without your BF or GF for a long time, as I have heard lots of bad stories because of that.
