American theatre kids still spell it theatre (the building is a theater, the art form is theatre) so they should have spelled it “Theatre camp” 😤😤, saw it in the cinema a few weeks ago and had a blast, everyone was laughing at all the jokes such a fun film!

“Theatre” is the US/American industry standard spelling. Sorry to all those Theatre kids who think they’re special.
@b3z3jm3nny Жыл бұрын
@@tananario it’s not about thinking they’re special, it’s because the play is about theatre kids not industry professionals, so that’s who I framed it in terms of, jeez.

I can’t wait to see this! The way it’s filmed and also it’s mockumentary it gives me high school musical: the musical: the seires vibes

As a high school theatre actor and later teacher, I loved this film! It only played in Salt Lake City for one week. Basically, no advertising for it! There were only 6 people in the theater including my daughter (former theatre kid) and myself. We both identified with it, and laughed our heads off.

First off: Thank you SO much for your acknowledgement of the labor dispute, but also for explaining the pressures in play when it comes to trying to talk about film releases. It's more nuanced than I realized. Secondly: Thank you for mentioning that Amy Sedaris plays Joan!! I love her so much that I might be able to overcome my intense annoyance with Ben Platt.

I went to band camp in high school and there was a theatre camp happening at the same time that week. We got to see their dress rehearsal at the end of the week and they were always really good for only having a week to pull it together. That clearly pushed along my love of live theatre. I feel like this movie will for sure strike a cord of nostalgia for me.

I've known patti harrison ever since I saw her do stand up at a bizarre little start up basement ages ago, so perhaps I'm biased, but I really adore how she just steals the scenes she's in! I'm so happy that a film this funny and heartfelt with so many people very early in their careers has gotten this wide release, even internationally.

I found it interesting that you mention Spinal Tap… And not Waiting For Guffman, which is a film with the same group of people putting on community theater, also mockumentary style. Easily one of the funniest films I’ve seen in years, and I say this as a straight male. Very touching at the end. Musical numbers are hilarious. I do think it’s the kind of film that improves with repeat viewings as there are a lot of characters to get to know and many jokes you might miss the first time around. Destined to be a cult classic.

Do they have these types of camps in the U.K.? (I am from the U.S.). I particularly loved the tech guy - Noah Galvin. For me his is the best performance in the movie.

That is odd that the t-shirt says "Theater Camp". Maybe it's a joke unto itself. As a theatre (old) kid, we were ruthless about making sure people knew that the theatre was for the stage and theater was for the movies. You know how we get.

I guess re the kids, some of them at least must probably be theatre kids playing theatre kids, which presumably helps?? 😆 Appreciate your (nicely spoiler-free) review MJ, and also your vocalising of support for the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes! Definitely with you - and them! - there... IMO the studios' attitude in the whole thing has frankly been bullying & despicable, and as a creative myself I very much sympathise with how changing the residuals system is already increasingly making it difficult for those at the creative coalface to obtain a longterm consistent living? PLUS some of the contractual things studios apparently want to standardize around use of AI & deepfakery are really concerning from the viewpoint of people being able to control their own image, let alone monetise it! (I think of deepfakes already used in Star Wars and Fast & Furious franchises, and consider that very much the thin end of the wedge... 😬)
