Nested functions syntax and function arguments differentiated by fonts and in better detail -- I am not finding such on line. Example-- [was clear in Excel] --extract varying length LEFT string ending in a comma, with more text one does not want, beyond the comma. How do we do this in OO Calc? In Excel, I nest a SEARCH function within a LEFT function, put quotes around the comma argument in the SEARCH function, and I've got it, as: = LEFT (cell-ref , SEARCH ("," , cell-ref)) [Spaces added here for clarity, easier reading] ???????

Nice informative video. But I have a question I am stuck on so am writing this here in the hope that some one may help or explain. I am trying to use sum in Open Office. But the sum is the sum of digits in a column where the digits are generated by an ""if" function" So as an example I have 100 makes of cars and their colours in a column. So Column C is just their colour. I have in Column D used an if function formular (=IF(C1524="Red";"1";"") to create a numerical value of one in that column next to each red car. Now I want the sum of all those ones at the bottom of that column. When I try it returns zero. I have tried reading but it seems very complex and I may be on the wrong path. Can some one help please. Dont use double quotes around the 1, because when you do it treats the number as text.

Just some advice from a professional. Don't show all the functions and options at once. Show us how do do SIMPLE FIRST -- totaling rows and columns. Then add all that other options. In addition, you talk to much and say too little.
