Thank you Brian, it's much appreciated. I was one of the people who got really disappointed. I made my own script-based solution at the time and deployed it everywhere. But indeed did I miss for quite some time the convenient and robust features rport had.

Glad it's back for sure, but sounds like you came up with a solid solution as well.

I was told years ago, when I use to use PICO to learn Vi because it's on all systems. I am glad I did because I can use to do some much more because it has sed/awk built in. Syntax color has save my butt so many time. I am able to work Solaris, *BSD systems, and all Linux systems. Oh, Less has VI built in. Thus, Less is more.
@AwesomeOpenSource16 күн бұрын
Indeed. Vi is awesome, I just resist because I'm stubborn I suppose.

Hi Brian, thanks for your Videos. I also love open source and discovered Openrport from you. I use Tailscale (similar to Netbird) and was wondering what additional funktionality you get with Openrport?
@AwesomeOpenSource9 күн бұрын
So, RPort is an RMM (A remote machine management) system. It provides an overview of all your devices, their state, resources being used, and more. Also the scripting in it to push updates, or do various things individually or in bulk is a huge plus, and it makes secure tunnels for connecting via VNC, RDP, SSH, etc. as needed, and with a limited time frame. So, the tunnel is destroyed automatically after x minutes, and so on. You could build all of that from Netbird, Zabbix, Ansible, and a Terminal / VNC client and server, so if you have that, you are doing well.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain. You convinced me, I'll give it a try.

As okay as this is, this could have all been way easer with docker. The fact developers are creating new projects and not dockerizing them is concerning.
@AwesomeOpenSource15 күн бұрын
There is a dockerized version from a community member, I just didn't dig into it yet.

This is amazing! I have been looking for a good home RMM for all my workstations and servers. I unfortunately can't get my clients to show up in the server, when I run the install script on Windows it says it was successful but nothing is showing up in RPort. I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall, restarting the Rport service, and disabling the UFW firewall on the server itself and still nothing. Let me know if anyone has run into this.

Does openrport support Remote desktop on linux client with wayland?

I thought anything with R, like RSH and RLogin were a big security no no.
@AwesomeOpenSource16 күн бұрын
Well, I don't know why that would be an issue, but OpenRPort uses ssh tunnels to make any outgoing connections (and actually uses a reverse tunnel I believe, so client initiated).
@terrorpup16 күн бұрын
@@AwesomeOpenSource ok, rport seem to be a different app, but rsh is not encypted, we had to shut those ports off because people would try to come in. This looks like a VNC. RSH was used by Norton to so backup for one of their apps they sold.
@balfit16 күн бұрын
As I recall, rlogin was for remote login and rsh for remote shell. Both unencrypted. Then ssh (secure shell) came along and the peepers had to find another source of joy... The unencrypted ones were used back in the days when having any connection was a wonder itself that needed skills and a very few tools enabled prying. Even less people knew or wanted to use them maliciously...
