Very helpful video. Thank you very much. I want to know if you have ever used Matlab and Opensees to solve the optimal design problem using a Genetic Algorithm?
@terrastructeng3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't, but one of my colleagues has. The paper should be published soon, I'll share you the DOI when available :)

Have you found a way to do it?

Thanks for this valuable content, isn't it a better idea to use OpenSeesMP+tcl instead of parafor to utilize parallel processing?
@terrastructeng2 жыл бұрын
If you know how to use it, yes. It may actually be faster as MATLAB tends to be quite slow. Most people are now moving to Python and OpenSeespy, but at the end (at least at the moment) it is a matter of preference.

@@terrastructeng I prefer to use python for Ground motion scaling and creating Tcl files for analysis, and then use OpenSeesMP to perform IDA. OpenSeesPy is similar to OpenSeesMP in the case of parallel processing, but it's difficult to use in Windows and easier on Linux machines.

Hello Mr fernando I have a question Do we have to scale records to the design spectrum before using them for ida? Is it unacceptable if we dont?

Whether acceleration in input file in units of g? If it is in unit of m/s2 also we need to apply 9.81 in scaling the ground motion
@terrastructeng2 жыл бұрын
I normally multiply my GMscaling vector by 'g' (eg [0.1 0.2 0.3 0.4...]*9.81, which results in [0.981m/s2, 1.962m/s2, 2.943m/s2...]), as I like to show the output in terms of 'g'. However, the model is built in m/s2, which means that my accelerogram input has to be in the same units.

Hello Mr.fernando tnx for the videos they became very useful for me Just wanted to ask what if we run the 3D model you designed with this matlab code? Does it work ? I did it and finally for 'temp' I got a null matrix and as a result 'IDR MAX' became zero , how can i solve this ?

Hello Fernando, thank you for this presentation. All of your videos are useful. I have a question: Can you explain how to calculate the energy balance of a structure using Opensees?
@terrastructeng3 жыл бұрын
Hi David. I believe some materials are compatible with energy-related recorders, but I have never used them. The only similar thing that I have done before, was to measure the hysteretic energy dissipated through a specific element, and I did it by calculating the area under the hysteretic curve directly, by recording force/moment and deformation/rotation.

Hello Fernando, I have seen your videos and those are very useful for research. I am searching for a video in which a frame can be solve using OpenSees and Abaqus. The part of frame i.e. element of the structure is modelled on Abaqus and the rest of the structure analyze on OpenSees. Could you please help me? Thanks by the way. Great work done by you.
@terrastructeng3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shubham... I am afraid that I cannot help you, as I have very little knowledge on Abaqus (I have used it only a few times for very simple tasks).
