Thank you for the video. What are the recommended requirements for a helper node? Cpu, ram, disk?
@gnancloudgarage8 ай бұрын
Typically, for an OpenShift helper node, the recommended requirements vary based on the specific workload and scale of your cluster. However, as a general guideline, you might consider the following: - CPU: At least 2 cores, but more if your workload is CPU-intensive. - RAM: Minimum of 8GB, though 16GB or more is recommended for smoother performance, especially if running multiple containers. - Disk: Around 30GB for the operating system and any additional software, plus additional space for container images and application data. (~120 GB to 150 GB) Remember, these are just starting points and can vary based on your specific use case.

Good walk thru of the setup and well documented, appreciate the sharing, One question what is your hardware used in the demo, If i have to simulate the same do i need a machine with 96 gb of memory, did I get that right ?
@gnancloudgarage3 ай бұрын
Hi Srk, My hardware setup for the demo is an INTEL NUC 11 with 64 GB of memory. You don't necessarily need 96 GB of memory to simulate the same environment. Depending on the complexity of your workloads and the number of virtual machines you plan to run, 64 GB should be sufficient. However, if you're planning to run more intensive simulations or multiple VMs simultaneously, having additional memory could be beneficial. Thank you

Hi bro. sorry for disturbing you this time, i followed the procedure to deploy openshift 4.17 over vsphere , but i faced an issue, the process failed after deploying the master nodes, and the worker nodes didn't create. Can you help how can i know the issue
@gnancloudgarage10 күн бұрын
Hi Bro, No problem at all, and thanks for reaching out! The issue you’re facing with worker nodes not being created could be related to several factors, such as: Bootstrap Node Logs: Check the logs on the bootstrap node to identify any errors. The journalctl command can provide detailed insights: journalctl -u bootkube.service vSphere Configuration: Ensure that the resources (CPU, memory, and storage) allocated for the worker nodes are sufficient and match the requirements. Networking: Verify that the network configuration (DNS, DHCP, and load balancers) is set up correctly for both master and worker nodes. Installation Logs: Review the OpenShift installer logs (openshift-install.log) for more details on where the process is failing.

im trying to install a SNO cluster using the agent based method on vsphere which you need a local repo for as well. but isnt going to well the cluster just doesn't build not sure why.
@gnancloudgarage4 ай бұрын
Here are some troubleshooting steps and checks you can perform to help identify the issue: Troubleshooting Steps Verify Local Repository: Make sure your local repository is correctly configured and accessible from the nodes. Check the repository URL in your install-config.yaml file and ensure it points to the correct location. Check Network Connectivity: Ensure that all nodes have proper network access to the local repo and vSphere environment. Verify that there are no firewall rules or network issues blocking access. Inspect Logs: Check the installation logs for any errors or warnings. You can find these logs on the installer VM or in the openshift-installer directory. Look for log files like openshift-install.log or installer-bootstrap.log for detailed error messages. Verify Configuration Files: Double-check your install-config.yaml file for any misconfigurations. Ensure all necessary fields are correctly filled out, especially those related to the local repository and vSphere configurations. Check vSphere Configuration: Make sure that your vSphere environment is correctly set up for the OpenShift deployment. Verify that the resources (CPU, memory, storage) are adequate for the SNO cluster. Update OpenShift Installer: Ensure you are using the latest version of the OpenShift installer. An outdated installer might have bugs or compatibility issues.

@@gnancloudgarage i had a system wide proxy set on the machine i used to create the image and monitor the installl so i couldnt see progress when kicking of the agent install on the vsphere vm. My platform is none as well since its an sno node also u need to make sure the uuid is set to true for the disk otherwise the disks cannot be used and install wont go ahead.

How to connect this VM to the command line
@gnancloudgarage2 ай бұрын
To connect to an OpenShift 4.x cluster and its nodes (both worker and master) via the command line, follow these steps: Prerequisites: 1. OpenShift CLI (oc): Make sure you have the OpenShift CLI (`oc`) installed on your local machine. 2. Access Credentials: Ensure you have the necessary access credentials and the URL of the OpenShift API server. 1. Connecting to the OpenShift Cluster 1. Log in to the OpenShift Cluster: Use the `oc login` command to authenticate to the OpenShift cluster. You'll need the API server URL and a token or username/password. oc login api.:6443 --token= Or, if using username and password: oc login api.:6443 --username= --password= Replace `` with your cluster's domain, ``, ``, and `` with your credentials. 2. Verify Connection: Check that you are connected to the cluster and view cluster information: oc cluster-info This should return information about your cluster. 2. Accessing Nodes (Worker and Master) 1. Listing Nodes: To list all nodes (including master and worker nodes): oc get nodes 2. Accessing Nodes: You generally connect to the nodes directly using SSH if you need to perform tasks on the nodes. The OpenShift CLI does not provide direct SSH capabilities to the nodes, but you can use `ssh` if you have the necessary access: ssh @ Replace `` with the appropriate username and `` with the IP address of the node you want to access. 3. Connecting to Pods 1. List Pods: To see which pods are running in a namespace: oc get pods -n Replace `` with the name of your namespace. To list pods in all namespaces, omit the `-n ` option. 2. Access a Pod: To access a specific pod's terminal: oc exec -it -n -- /bin/bash Replace `` with the name of the pod and `` with the namespace where the pod is running. 4. Viewing Logs 1. View Logs for a Pod: oc logs -n You can add `--previous` to view logs from a previous instance of the container if applicable. Additional Notes: - Make sure you have the necessary permissions to access nodes and perform actions. - Access to nodes via SSH depends on your cluster setup and the security policies in place. - For cluster management tasks that involve nodes, you might use tools like Ansible or Kubernetes management tools. This should cover basic connections to your OpenShift 4.x cluster and its nodes using the command line.

Thanks for this, How much time does it takes before the master nodes are assigned an IP. I followed your procedure, but the master nodes never gets an IP and hence they keep waiting for ignition files. DHCP is working as bootstrap node gets an IP and I can see the logs using journalctl.
@gnancloudgarage Жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! The time it takes for master nodes to be assigned an IP can vary depending on several factors, including your network setup and infrastructure. If the master nodes are not getting an IP and are waiting for ignition files, there could be a few potential reasons for this issue: Network Configuration: Double-check your network configuration, especially the DHCP settings, to ensure that it's correctly configured for the installation. Firewall or Security Rules: Ensure that there are no firewall or security rules blocking the DHCP requests or responses for the master nodes. Resource Availability: Make sure you have sufficient resources available in your environment for the master nodes to be provisioned. Log Analysis: Review the logs on both the DHCP server and the master nodes to see if there are any error messages or issues that can provide more information about the problem. Good luck with your OpenShift installation!

I assume your Router is not a DHCP server and your only DHCP server is your AD VM. Is that right? Seems this is the only way to get your DHCP requests answered by the VMs since its a flat network with everything on the same Subnet. If there was a 2nd DHCP server say running also on your Router, then this would cause issues with DHCP requests. Let me know if this is how you set it up. I can't see any other way. Good videos either way! Thanks!
@gnancloudgarage11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and for watching the videos! Yes, in the setup I demonstrated, the router is not acting as a DHCP server. Instead, the DHCP server functionality is handled by the AD VM. This approach works well in a flat network where all devices are on the same subnet. Here is the correlated video for your review. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpOVZpmwhph3aa8

Bro please make some vedios on upgrading openshift cluster to latest version with zero down time
@gnancloudgarageАй бұрын
Sure Bro, Will plan to do it. Thanks. Steps to Upgrade Red Hat OpenShift Cluster with Zero Downtime: 1.Pre-requisites: -Ensure Cluster is Highly Available (HA): - The control plane (masters) and worker nodes must be configured in a highly available architecture. - Ensure that applications are configured with replicas across multiple nodes to avoid service disruption. 2.Perform Health Checks: - Before starting the upgrade, verify the health of your cluster using `oc get nodes`, `oc get pods`, and other diagnostic commands. - Confirm that there are no critical alerts or failed components. 3.Backup Critical Data: - Take a full backup of the cluster configuration and any persistent data. - If using OpenShift with persistent storage, ensure volumes are backed up or snapshots are taken. 4.Upgrade Control Plane: - UseRed Hat OpenShift’s web console orCLI (oc adm upgrade) to start the upgrade process. - The upgrade will happen in a rolling fashion: control plane components (API servers, controllers) are updated one by one, maintaining service availability. 5.Upgrade Worker Nodes: - Worker nodes are updated one at a time. Pods running on each worker are drained and moved to other available nodes to ensure application availability. - This is done usingrolling upgrades for worker nodes, ensuring pods are rescheduled on other nodes to maintain the service. 6.Check and Validate Application Availability: - Ensure that applications are configured with adequate replicas and health checks to survive node drains. - Tools likehorizontal pod autoscaler (HPA) andreadiness probes ensure that the application remains up during node transitions. 7.Monitor the Upgrade Process: - Use OpenShift’s monitoring tools likePrometheus,Grafana, andcluster logging to ensure everything is running smoothly. - Ensure nodes are upgraded successfully without errors and that pods are rescheduled properly. 8.Post-Upgrade Validation: - Once the upgrade is complete, validate that all nodes are running the new version (`oc get nodes`), and applications are functioning as expected. - Perform smoke testing of critical services to ensure zero downtime. 9.Rollback Plan: - If issues arise during the upgrade, use OpenShift’s rollback features or backups to restore the previous cluster state.
