I’m hyped for blender, unreal, marvellous, speedtree all playing together seamlessly.. but in my day job honestly I’m most excited about Sketchup and Revit talking properly.

I hope there comes a way to keep Collections between Unreal and Blender by default. Right now i have to use a separate plug-in.

Hmm..it seems it has limited support in blender right now. Hopefully it will be better supported. Would be great for a solid method to transfer stuff between programs.

There is a test branch for USD. There are also plug9ns to help transfer between programs.

Can we get rid FBX forever ?

I like the OpenUSD format from my limited use. It just needs some better integrations into Unreal and a more straightforward way to make new schemas for custom types. Omniverse seems good for data prep, since it's build around OpenUSD, but I would still stick to Unreal for the realtime simulation, at least the ones I am using. I prefer not being constrained to specific hardware vendor, so unless AMD, Intel, Qualcomm support is also added, I only makes sense for very expensive cloud computing and not locally run computing

Does USD support rigging/skinning/blend shapes??

Yes it does all that.

What about fbx?

It doesn’t support layering, realtime collaboration & interoperability, and so on, plus it’s not an opensource, while the SDK is considered opensource, the file format itself is closed-source.

It has promise, but it's SLOW... reminds me of Java in early 2000's ... compared to then Java is now good performance.
