You can achieve control of the wing trailing edge sweep angle by turning on 'Sec SW' as one of the section control radio buttons. Set it to 0. Feel free to ask questions on the Google Group.

Thanks, that would have made things a lot easier over the last few months. I think the first time I saw those radio buttons it struck me as one of the most baffling things I had ever seen in any user interface, and thereafter my eyes somehow never even registered their existence - as you can see from this video it's like I never even saw them :) Even now playing around with them afresh, it took a while to grok what was going on. Some mouse-over tooltips would go a long way to help new users in such a specialized program...

Thank you. I am gonna make a few program suggestions here; FLZVortex, Schwerpunkt52(Center of Gravity52) and Winghelper. FLZVortex is really difficult but super powerful and Schwerpunkt52 and WingHelper are really easy to use.

Amazing Video, helps me really a lot to get in to designing my own model. The first time I've seen this program I was overwhelmed by the mass of possibilities, you explained it very well and made it look really doable for me. I'm looking to design a glider, I can definitely recommend this video to people new in openvsp.

Yeah it's definitely not the easiest program to get started with, that's for sure :)

Concerning the undo/redo behavior at 9:00, this is pretty much normal for many applications. The software is treating the text box as its own entity with its own undo/redo history. It doesn't have to be confusing as long as you think in terms of focus. Whatever the mouse last clicked will be the focused entity on which undo/redo will be applied to.
@iforce2d Жыл бұрын
I think if you actually used this software for a while you'll discover all kinds of jank related to undo/redo that I didn't have time to mention. For example some text inputs don't do any kind of undo, and some do the full 'per input' undo history you're talking about. Undo/redo also may either work or not depending if you have the main window focused or some other dialog. Mostly what messes me up with the 'per input' ones is that when you hit enter to apply the text, the result happens, but when you undo, nothing happens. I've never used any other software where I would have to do Ctrl+Z, Enter, Ctrl+Z, Enter ... etc to step through the history and see the results being applied.
@ericbenjaminjr Жыл бұрын
@@iforce2d I replied to the wrong comment. I mixed it up with a notification I got on another dialogue about XFLR5, sorry about that. XFLR5 Just happens to have similar undo/redo "jank". 'And you're absolutely right, I haven't been using this for a long time. I'm still discovering new "jank" every day. Thankfully there are alternatives to this software and it is not irreplaceable. Have you tried anything else thats not a commercial CAD program?

Big question, +/- vs XFLR5?
@iforce2d4 жыл бұрын
I prefer OpenVSP because - more shapes available - blended shapes (wing/fuse) - more export formats (esp. planar slice) - simulation tool feels more integrated/one-click

I realized that I approached it the wrong way, and would need to redesign pretty much from scratch. If I take this up again I will be doing it with geared steppers, connected directly to each arm section.

I don't really know, but I have had similar problems with Japanese paths. For example, this would be a problem: c:\企画\飛行機\skyhunter.vsp3 But this would be ok: c:\designs\plane\skyhunter.vsp3 As long as the full path has no double-byte characters, it was fine even on a Japanese operating system. If this is not the issue, then I don't have any more ideas sorry.
