If I didn't remember wrong, this song first played when you met Xiao for the first time. I don't remember exactly how that scene was, but I still remember that feeling. Something's so beautiful and peaceful about it, and somehow slightly sad at the same time, like you're missing something or someone but you know that you can never find it/them again. I've loved Xiao ever since. I love Xiao for so many reasons, and this song and that feeling I had when I first met him are definitely one of them.

Well yeah, but the song just suits the story of zhongli and guizhong much more. It gives a much more of a sad deep feeling if the song is played while showing the story of zhongli and guizhong. Well, it could also work with Xiao and Lumine, but it gives like a teenage love kind of feel, and that is not bad thou. But Zhongli and guizhong with Lover's Oath is just better.

Although I also like to ship characters here and there, I prefer thinking of their relationship as best friends, or soul mates, especially since there's no cannon from the developers. For me, each relationship is special and beautiful in its own way, and no one is better than another. When I first listened to this song and fell in love with it was when I first met Xiao, so every time I hear it, I remember him. The equation Lover's Oath = Xiao just naturally formed and still holds a special position in my heart. It doesn't give me the teenage love vibe like it does to you though. Does this song fit Zhongli and Guizhong? Yes, it does. But I just don't make the connection, every time. Maybe it's just because I love Xiao so much =)))))

@@abcd-mo5mo Because it played on our first encounter with Xiao, and since just like in any other fandom shipping culture is a big thing, having that kind of music playing during 2 characters first meeting is somewhat similar to a validation to a Traveler and Xiao ship (or a self-insert ship for people who prefer that more). Genshin tries to cater to an incredibly large amount of audiences so it might be counterproductive to make a canon couple, although to be fair since Traveler is written as a self-insert it's generally more common. Fans will grasp at anything to give more depth to their ships, and as far as Traveler ships go (when including both Aether and Lumine), Xiao is probably one of the most popular partners. As for the Guizhong and Zhongli fact, I'm personally not sure if it is or not canonically, but yeah, this same ost is often used by people who ship those two, because I'm pretty sure it's not a Xiao specific soundtrack.

There is something you said with people often go wild for the stronger, more exciting music. For me it was always the other way. What touches me the most are these gentle and slower pieces. Lovers Oath for example could make me teary eyed in an instant. Also the song which made me "realize" the music in Genshin as something Special, was "a new day with hope", i insanely live this song from Mondstadt. "Tender Strength" and "Clear Sky over Liyue" resonate deeply with me as well. Genshin Impacts music is very precious to me.

I absolutely love this ost, seared into my brain when it first played during Traveler's first meeting with Xiao. Thing is, this song rarely ever plays in-game, the only other time it's played is during the zither event back in 2.2 or 2.3, we played the song with Xiao at Wangshu Inn lol. I don't indulge in headcanons, but this song makes me think that it's reserved for Xiao and Traveler, no matter what their relationship may be. What they have is quite pure in my eyes, with Xiao keeping his oath of appearing whenever Traveler calls for him, and Traveler never seeing him as a weapon no matter how he views himself as one

I remember when i first heard it, during one of our first meetings with Xiao, i was mesmerized. I think there is a variation of this one, with light vocals. For almost two years fans claimed that the ost's name was "Ghuizhong's lullaby" and that it signified her tragic love story with Zhongli, *but* it was confirmed that it's just a headcannon and it most probably refers to Xiao and his potential crush with the Traveler.

When we look out of Dihua Marsh, where Xiao was constantly protecting people from the monster, and he appeared behind us and this song was played. Oh Lord...did I become mesmerized. This song was called Lover's Oath because Wangshung Inn is popular for lover as a tourist spot. That's all. But I imagine it was to signify the oath he made with traveler as well.

On a similar note, a song that I've never forgotten, and even to this day 10 years later am still humming is: "Elizabeth" from Bioshock Infinite. Honestly, it still takes my breath away all these years later. I can't honestly describe it emotionally, there's wonder, sadness, sorrow, but this warmth, it's a hard song to immediately sum up what makes it so compelling. I know you've likely got a laundry list on your schedule, but I'd highly recommend it. It's also a rather short track. I don’t know from where but when I hear this I thing Morax and Guizong’s story. Manly because of the tone what tells me that this song is written do someone who is no longer withe us or talks of there love. I know not everyone like same thing but Guili is a ship what is for me canon and this is there theme. But everyone has there own thoughts. Edit: it can symbolises any Zhongli relationship since it also gives the feeling of the writer writing of the past withe bittersweet thoughts since Zhongli remember everything and everyone, he remembers the good and bad what I wanted to say and the song is bittersweet. I think it’s possible you might’ve heard it as the fan title “Guizhong’s Lullaby” and people just associated it being about Guizhong and Zhongli despite it’s only appearance of the song is when we first meet Xiao. Then when the album released as “Lover’s Oath” some people got divided to either this further pushes Guizhong and Zhongli ship, that it’s a Traveler and Xiao ship, or it’s a generally romantic piece. To this day, people still attribute this piece as “Lover’s Oath, Guizhong’s Lullaby” because of the fan title. As a side note, the song technically did make a reappearance in one the rhythm game events. Specifically, you duet with certain characters where one plays the Zither and the other plays the Harp. Your duet partner for Lover’s Oath happened to be Xiao. (Technically, an illusion of him as Kazuha explains at the beginning of the event that when he played the Zither, it’s like some magical nostalgic force is playing alongside him. And kept playing it to the point it broke.)

You know after hearing your analysis of this. It makes me wonder if you ever heard any of the first Grandia music. It was a PS1 era game, but damn it had some very good composition. You would have marches, love songs, and battle themes. The story was one of my favorites of all time, because it was a mix of archaeology, adventure, doomsday, quirky humor (pretty sure there was a scene where they were talking about cures for constipation that was outlandish) and many other things. Not many games since then I thought were of that same caliber following that until recently with Hoyoverse and PGR. My recommendations are the Main Theme, The Beautiful Woman of Alent, Leen's Love theme, Colonel Mullen's theme, and the Sandy Beach of Gumbo. Leen's love theme kinda throws you for a loop, because its not typical lovey dovey song, it's more of a sacrificial love song. The composer is Noriyuki Iwadare and I would say that he made some serious bangers.

For the record, this song is about zhongli's closest companion and his love interest, not wife or gf, just a one-sided crush ( but i forgot if this is true or not ), but it makes sense cuz its lover's oath. The meaning behind the song is kind of lost now. This was dubbed Guizhong's Lullaby by the fanbase once upon a time, it's a beautiful song. Guizhong is the Goddess of Dust that Zhongli was.. "connected" to. Guizhong was an intelligent goddess that helped Zhongli in the Archon War, where there were many Gods fighting to be connected to Celestia. Zhongli was a very strong God, fierce and aggressive and slaughtered many in the war. Guizhong was the opposite, she was connected to the humans, she saw their potential and strength. She didn't have much of strength in herself, fragile, but she helped create machinations and structures, places for the people to live etc. However in the war, that wasn't enough, she died, dust to dust. However before she died, as we can read in the weapon description of "Memory of Dust," she spoke to Zhongli, asking him to promise that she'd help these humans that she cared for so much. QUOTE: "This is the mark of our pledge, and it is also my challenge to you." "All my wisdom is hidden within this stone dumbbell." He remembers meeting the young woman with the billowing sleeves, remembers the way she acted solemn, yet seemed joyful when she presented him this token. What a silly notion. There was no formal contract between them. They were merely two people walking the same path for their own reasons... But he remembers the scene of their first meeting anyway, when the Glaze Lilies were still in abundant bloom. He also remembers those words she spoke at the end - again, amid the Glaze Lilies. "Those little people are as small and fragile as dust." "Because they are so small, they know not when they will lose their lives to disaster or strife, and so they are afraid." IIRC, this song also plays in the Guili Plains. Where the Guili is a combined name of both Guizhong and Zhongli's name together. Feels much more tragic especially since we got more lore of it later on the Genshin series highlighting a bit of Guizhong's past. You're right. Hauntingly beautiful and a song you really can't forget. It's really a song of remembrance, heartbreak but eventually, and inevitably time moving on.
