It's not that their relationship is causing agony, it's their relationship that's keeping them sane through all their shared agony, when Lothric had to bear the burden of his curse, Lorian was there to shoulder it with him. Despite being denied the throne all his life, defeating the prince of demons, and still being told that his crippled brother would be the one to succeed the throne, he never showed any contempt or anger towards his brother, Lorian loves Lothric with all his heart, and if he can't be the crown prince, he'll be by his brother's side to the bitter bitter end, supporting him, (literally sometimes) and even became mute and crippled himself by taking on Lothric's curse. And when Lothric had enough of his so called destiny, and abandoned his duties, Lorian was right there with him, turning his back on the world just as swiftly as his brother had, all they have left is eachother

Lorian is legit the best big brother anyone can have. There he stood, champion of Lothric, the mightiest of all knights whose blade struck down the unbeatable demon prince with such force and power that his blade became etched with the demon’s flames for all eternity. His younger brother the sickly Lothric, inheritor of the flame, in an act of blasphemy rejected the flame, the cycle of Fire and the extension of the time of the gods realizing their time has ended. To spare him the full brunt of the curse of this treachery, Lorian decided to share the punishment with him. The once tall and commanding knight, whose footfalls made the world around him shake was now reduced to a mute cripple.

The story behind the princes is this: Lorian was a great champion that was worthy of being the next lord of cinder, yet Lothric who was frail and weak was chosen for that mantle. Also Lothric was educated about the nature of the first flame by a private scholar and chose to not become a Lord. Lorian loved his brother and embraced his curse. They joined their souls into one, which made Lorian mute and unable to walk. That sheer brotherly love is what the second phase of the music represents when they defend their throne together. Edit: you only fight lorian in the first half, that explains the "apart"ness of the music in the first half, his brother hasnt joined him in battle yet
@dandybus15822 жыл бұрын
Isn’t it implied that Pontiff Sulyvahn may have been the scholar that advises against the linking of the flame? Definitely one of my favourite OSTs in Dark Souls 3. While first phase where we fight Lorian feels like honorable battle between amazing warriors, the second phase when Lothric joins the fight makes you feel like you're some sort of villain in this story. Both Lothric and Lorian can't walk, they both support each other, Lothric on his brother's back, they just both want to survive. Seeing Lothric trying to revive Lorian after defeating him is a pretty sad view.

I admire how Marco describes the first phase as 'anguish, anger, pain and suffering' because all those words *perfectly summarise* Lorian. @TheStraightestWhitest Жыл бұрын
@@dylanlerian5960 The Final Boss isn't even that good of a track. It's dead simple and one of my least favorite ones in Elden Ring. The Elden Beast part is special, specifically the part past one minute where the crescendo rises, but the rest is meh. Radahn, Maliketh, Fortissax and the Regal Ancestor Spirit are objectively more complex and of higher quality than 99% of Bloodborne's and DS3's music. Many composers and opera singers/conductors have already stated this. There's countless reaction videos of it. I highly recommend Marco Meatball's review of Fortissax for a good example. In fact, it's probably why you like them less. The simpler music is, the more easy it is for a casual mind to understand it. The exact reason I like Maliketh's or Radahn's themes so much is the same reason most prefer something simpler. There's too many layers. Their brains can't handle it. It's why proper classical music can't even be written by people with an IQ under 130. ''Data from the US General Social Survey from 1993 shows a strong correlation between classical music preference and intelligence. Individuals who liked classical music the most had a significantly higher IQ than those who did not like classical music.'' The tracks you're listing are extremely easy, formulaic, and repetitive. Easy for a simple mind to jam to. Maliketh or Fortissax however are extremely complex, using up to 16 (Maliketh) to 18 (Fortissax) different instruments simultaneously alongside differing notes among some of these instruments to create a sort of tension, like the music is fighting itself. Fortissax does this in the mid stages of the first phase. Maliketh does it right in the transition to its second phase with probably the most beautifully haunting use of violins and vocals I've ever heard to create an enormous amount of tension. But you have to appreciate music to be able to understand them. Otherwise it just becomes ''too much'', which is something I've seen countless people claim about many Elden Ring songs. That they just sounded like bombastic noise. That's a sign that their brain didn't have the capacity to follow everything going on. That is no slant on the people who couldn't enjoy it. Not every type of music is for everyone. But do *not* make the mistake of thinking that's because they're of lower quality. It's actually because they're of higher quality. Avengers Endgame will always be a million times more popular than Schindler's List. Why? Because everyone has the brainpower to understand and enjoy Endgame, whereas not everyone has the brainpower to understand and enjoy Schindler's List. Does that mean Endgame is of higher quality? Nope. The opposite.
@dylanlerian5960 Жыл бұрын
@@TheStraightestWhitest Being more complex doesn’t necessarily means it’s better. And saying that people who prefer DkS 3 and Bloodborne music are simple mind is pretty much stupid and untrue. It’s a game and have nothing to do with how much IQ someone has or how simpler a track is. Not to mention Bloodborne has an orchestra too. And if I like Bloodborne and DkS 3 ones better it’s because of its style and the emotions they share that’s all. Eitherway the vast majority find the DkS 3 and Bloodborne musics better and more fitting to their respecting games, not many people prefer Elden Ring ones.

One thing you didn't notice is that this calm, beautiful melody could represent Lothric (the small one) while this strong, violent music represent Lorian. One indication is that Lorians theme dies, but Lothrics theme doesn't just keep on... It is beautiful, but at one point, when it should go silent in that violin part... It refuses. It rekindles the other melody, not just playing at the same time, but really just playing along as if in this fight, the second phase of the twin princes, you don't fight Lothric and Lorian anymore. You fight the Twin Princes Of Lothric. (Btw, Lothric is only on Lorians back in the 2.phase)

@SophisticatedGoat2222 жыл бұрын
A fun fact about this song is that it's a variation on the unused theme for Lothric Castle. Originally the game was going to have tracks playing as you explored a few areas, but that was ultimately scrapped, so you lose some of the thematic ties between songs, such as the fact that Lothric Castle also incorporates bits of the leitmotif used in the first phase of Soul of Cinder. I actually recommend taking a listen to the unused tracks from the game, namely the aforementioned Lothric Castle track, and the Old King of the Eclipse (which is a more intense arrangement of the title screen theme that also incorporates the Soul of Cinder leitmotif).

I like how Fromsoftware's songs are never about the fights themselves, but about the bosses' tragedy. The first movements sound really obsessive and maddening, much like the princes father. The second movement, when the choirs kick in, sound commemorative, as if expectations have been met. Then it changes to despair and frustration for prince Lothric is a cripple and unfit to rule. Then to calamity: Lothrics learns how to "break" the cycle and free himself from his obligations, which brings the world to ruin

YES MY FAVORITE DS3 TRACK, THE VIOLIN AND CHOIR GO SO HARD! Okay, that's a lie, it's a three way tie between this, Darkeater Midir, and Epilogue... If I'm allowed to cheat, a fan remix that blends Yhorm the Giant and Epilogue is heads and tails above the rest, though. Alex Roe is a legend in the community, and has even cooperated with the composer of DS3 to make an album! This song is so awesome because it reeks of the anguish that the two princes went through, while focusing on the defiance that they have chosen to take against the cycle. Lorian, the hero of the age, crippled to give his brother Lothric some semblance of health in a sort of ritual that bound the two together, and Lothric, a pile of bones and rags, having chosen to not give his life to the flames no matter how pathetic his resistance might be. The two princes decided they would rather throw a coup and survive till the end of fire than sacrifice themselves to a dying cycle that has done them nothing but harm. To me, these two were the final boss of DS3; Soul of Cinder was simply fanservice to give the player time to have the story sink in, and the DLC a sort of DS3.5 that can't be entirely considered the same game as it focuses on a different story and theme. Day 2 of begging Marco to listen to a PSO2 boss theme (personal preference is the story version of Sodam, but there's a lot of good options)! I would have kept it every day, but there was a weird issue yesterday where the comment section wouldn't load on the livestream vod... oof. Streak ruined before it could even start.

I love this boss track I listen to it alot. The lore of the bosses is indeed tragic. I don't remember the exact lore but I think it was something like, loreon and lothric were cursed something to do with rekindling the flame, the curse caused lothric to become crippled and mute. The brothers do care deeply for each other.
@killerb3592 жыл бұрын
So lothric was cursed with being crippled and mute but lorian took half of the curse which was the crippled part, but when he did that somehow he got both parts the crippled and the mute while lothric was just left with the crippled aspect

Eh iirc, Lorian getting cripplied in no way related to Lothric's curse, Lorian is crippled because of the curse conjured by Demon Prince after he beat him, and he eventually became mute when he decided to join Lothric against the kingdom's will to become the next Lord of Cinder While Lothric's weak and crippled situation is not because the curse he got after against rekindling the fire, he is born with that situation while he is the one who is expected to be the next Lord of Cinder instead of Lorian, despite Lorian is clearly stronger and more competent to become one And so, both Princes decided to betray the flame, and form the bond between one and another, which is said that the bond itself is the curse they had endure for their sin That's what I remembered from reading some of the item descriptions

I never played DS3 let alone the other DS games, don't have the platform but seeing how they fight where it first begin with the oldest fighting one on one, but then he died and then his brother joined the fight, merging onto his back and start to casts off spell and teleportation, each time the oldest died, the youngest brings him back to life and was vulnerable in that point. It's good, interesting but also tragic, because it made you seemed like a villain in a certain POV. They're the boss, but they're there for a reason and that is to keep you from progressing through. As you fight them, there's this air of desperation seen on how the oldest fought like he's dead tired yet precise, when the youngest joins and start pouring spells, teleportation and combines his spell with the oldest attack... it was brutal, like they mean it, no hesitation and just pure desire for their mutual survival. The youngest couldn't accept his brother's death and brings him back to life, not minding your attack in the process till they both dead... Tragedy, wrapped in desperation through a hauntingly beautiful music and choir... PERFECTION. Also Marco, have you listen to Sister Friede yet?

I always loved hearing the violin kick in at around 1:01 for some reason. I think of it as representing either one of the brothers. Maybe trying to reassure or give strength to the other. Edit: I just realized it might not be a violin.

The ''Giant Skeleton'' You mentioned is also a great boss theme checking out, High Lord Wolnir is a very underrated boss, but he brings quite an amazing track.

That violin in the first half is just beautiful it's the one part of the song that I always remember very clearly above the rest. It just seems to perfectly encapsulate this feeling of tragedy and quiet desperation, tainted by acceptance/resignation in the midst of so much struggle and strife. It really does perfectly suit Lothric's character

This was my favorite boss in the game and my favorite boss track. The score is so hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing, the fight was pure elegance and raw power , from the boss movement to the spells. I really really love this track

This is my fav ost lore wise it reflects perfectly the story of the twin princes, both got a responsability that they didnt ask, they dont want to be a lord of cinder they know about how useless is to link the fire, and its even more tragic when you know that Lorian loved so much Lothric that he preferred to be crippled and muted just to make Lothric feel less pain since he was born weak and sick

I have no idea if it's too late but please man check out the beta/unused version of this song, "lothric castle" it's incredible and connects the main theme, soul of cinders theme, and the twin princes Honestly all of the unused themes are amazing but lorthic castle is exceptionally special That the and original boss version of the menu theme that was intended for pontiff sulivahn called, " old king of the eclispe"

I remember this fight being tough as hell and I was getting pissed off and had to take a break like once or twice, but hearing from 1:14 made me appreciate them even more. The whole thing of the bosses in Dark Souls 3 essentially being husks of their former selves with everyone having something wrong with them that makes them jokes if you think about what they are now, and this part of the song is still grandiose since it is a bossfight but it also almost feels like watching someone dramatically about to get murdered. Lorian is literally unable to use his legs and is unable to speak but he still tries to fight you since you're purely there to kill them, and Lothric who is unable to fight you directly tries his hardest to help his brother kill you instead. God Dark Souls 3 lore is just so fucking good.

I always feel like this song has a heaviness to it with the descending brass and percussion, like it represents the burden that the First Flame has placed on Humanity, and Lothric's attempt to shed that burden that was placed solely upon him in this cycle. The vocals sound almost like someone urgently explaining something, like Lothric is trying to convince the Ashen One to let the Age of Fire die, and the vocals become increasingly desperate and weary as it fails to convince us.

This theme always reminds me of the main theme of the game as well. Similarity in structure and the pounding use of the choir to indicate the passion and force of will. Not a full on motif but so clearly related to one another in style unlike some of the other boss themes.
