Gaismagorm isn't one of the three lords (the ones based off of Dracula, Frankenstein or the Werewolf), its something much more terrifying. You find out that it's been the one behind the calamity you thought was the big baddie (Malzeno), but then THIS hellspawn appears in a cutscene where it looks like its literally spawning from the depths of hell. They really went all out on the horror elements and I love them for it!

In the old Dracula tales, the vampire count had made a deal with the devil in exchange for his terrible powers. Gaismagorm is intended to be an interpretation of the devil and has a relationship with Malzeno inspired by that story.

Gaismagorm's version of Proof of a Hero is also particularly interesting. It's probably the only Proof of the Hero rendition that feels eerie and heroic at the same time. The songs makes you feel lime you are winning, but against the big monster in front of you, and not the true monster in the shadows.

@Clifford no, but garangolm is based on Frankenstein's monster. Malzeno is Dracula/ a vampire, Lunagaron is a werewolf, and Garangolm is Frankenstein's monster. All 3 lord are based on those old school horror monster while Gaismagorm is just straight up the devil.

Someone noted that most MH themes speak to the nature of each Monster as, well, a part of nature, and a noble creature that’s more than just teeth and claws. There are a few, however, that emphasize the Monsters as unnatural, those like Fatalis, Safi’jiiva, and most recently Gaismagorm. The Archdemon of the Abyss has a very fitting theme, if you ask me! Oh, and your comment about it wanting to “drain your life essence”? Gaismagorm uses winged parasites to drain the life energy from its prey to feed.

Fun Fact this is actually the game's Final Boss, and the Organ and quick strings are a reference to how Malzeno was just a facade to the true threat behind him being Gaismagorm. He is also literally based on a Demon and is also the largest monster in the game, towering over both you and everything else you've ever faced in Rise and Sunbreak so far. Proof of a Hero: Sunbreak Version is also literally his second phase theme and is the only time it plays in the game, while Proof of a Hero: Rise Version plays for a few other monsters usually. It also summons a swarm of Flesh eating flying leeches, so many in fact that even the most powerful monsters struggle and even fall to these things when swarming intensely, and yet they fear and follow Gaismagorm's every whim. The three lords are Lunagaron, Garangolm, and Malzeno, but the first two don't actually have a unique theme of their own and just use generic area themes depending on where they're fought. Would recommend either Berserk Laviente or Shantien from Monster Hunter Frontier. They both have many phases to the themes and the final phases are considered the best in the series (First phase of Berserk Laviente is my personal Favorite.). These two monsters are only in Monster Hunter Frontier, a Japanese only Monster Hunter game that got INSANE amounts of special treatment and attention given to it, especially in the sense of Epic Music.

There’s a common theory that Giasmagorm might be based off a famous horror character too, but not not a classic movie monster: but devil itself. Gias is called as a demon a *lot* in the game, from its title, to the name of its quest, etc. But the biggest hint is the pentagrams cleverly hidden in its design. The main one is it’s head, when when it’s mouth and all the flaps are open, resembles an upside-down star.

I remember reading comments on this monster's theme about how the devil imagery is prevalent in its theme. A 6 beat measure is present in most of it, and a particular spamming of tri-tones called Devil's Interval. Very clever of the composers! Monster Hunter is incredible with the creatures you fight, they feel like legends yet still beasts, and the music is great! And since you've reviewed the "devil" of MH, perhaps the more angelic Shagaru Magala's theme can get a listen as well? Both versions are spectacular!

Well, Gaismagorm is officially the "Archdemon", a creature that mostly lives underground and forms a symbiosis with aggressive flying parasites that leech the life force out of everything nearby to feed and power itself up. I think this theme of being demonic also matches with the use of an organ and the chorus because it gives the whole thing a somewhat ecclesiastical sound. This sort of makes sense, that the "demon" would have elements of traditional old church music in it because it could somewhat be considered an affront to god. Interesting on a lore note: The "Vampire" Malzeno is actually somewhat of a natural predator of the Gaismagorm in the sense that it somehow takes control over those parasites and uses it for its own gain, thus preventing the Gaismagorm from gaining enough strength to emerge to the surface but also keeping the ecosystem in balance because it's less aggressive in having them absorb life force so that they do not actually just start draining everything in sight to death. It's only when the Malzeno is killed that Gaismagorm regains control over the parasites at which point they start basically murdering everything in order to absorb as much life force as possible and allowing the Gaismagorm to power up and emerge at which point it is then fought. I reckon one of the reasons why the theme sounds so evil is that it embodies one of the few monsters that are not in balance with nature. Most monsters embody their own niche within the ecosystem and keep everything as part of a cycle, yet there are a few that do not obey this rule and those monsters are usually made to appear more evil and terrifying. Other than Gaismagorm there's also Fatalis (who simply embodies absolute destruction), Deviljho (who just like Gaismagorm is too hungry and greedy for nature to tolerate), the Magalas (who have a corrupting and destructive influence on everything that comes near them), Safi'Jiva (who is on his way to becoming something too big and powerful for the natural balance of things) and a few others.

As far as Monster Hunter soundtracks go, I would have to say the Shantien Medley is by far the greatest, aside from Proof of a Hero obviously. With the Shantien medley, it starts off is this serene, mysterious track that’s calming, eventually growing more active over the course of four phases until its height where the song grows into the most epic song in the franchise full of choir and intense drumming.

Basically, Garangolm is based on the golem (with a Hollywood Frankenstein's monster flavor), Lunagaron is a werewolf and Malzeno is a vampire (with that Bela Lugosi flare added). Most people see Gaismagorm as the litteral devil, as in that guy who rebelled against his dad and got expelled from home, that one; but considering it's called "Archdemon of the Abyss", comes from a big-ass hole on the ground and controls a swarm of locust-like flying lampreys, it's closer to Abaddon.

I think the most terrifying thing about gaismagorm is that we don't know what exactly it did in the past during this "Calamity." Fatalis to me was terrifying because the legends told you what it did in a single night, and the ruins around the world are a reminder of what it could do again. With gaismagorm, all we get to know is that it caused a terrible disaster and its straight up demonic.

OMG I actually requested this one, so cool to see it dissected! I'm sure it has been already pointed out but Gaismagorm is themed after the devil, he is weird, he comes from the depths of the earth and a very nice touch is that his composed jaw forms a satanic pentagram when fully open. This theme is also gorgeous btw, when it breaks it feels just so grand and evil, and the build up towards that is just perfect. So glad to see you cover so much MH, keep up the great work!

One of my favourite thing about this theme is the section at 6:30: it is sooo cinematic. It's like after all that build up Gaismagorm is finally showing himself like "Witness, mortal, my immense power" as he starts raining hellfire down on you. Extremely diabolical

I looove Gaismagorm, its theme, the fight. Everything about this fricking Kaiju. Everytime you thought the fight couldn't get more intense, it upped the ante again. The theme played a major part in that. Also, Malzeno and Gaismagorm being the only two monsters with the organ in their theme, I think it actually represents the Qurio, the butterfly-like flying red leeches that drain your life from you to feed their master. Also, when you mentioned only classical orchestration really manages to inspire such terror, I wanted to recommend a more electronic theme that has achieved the same for me. The Prowler's theme from Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse was absolutely chilling.

I imagine it's design/themes are kinda around Abbadon a fallen angel that has become an abyssal archdemon with design elements of a mole (specifically a star nosed mole given the way Gaisma's mouth opens up). The idea of a fallen angel might be hulinted at the fact when Gaisma climbs the highest part of the wall you see the energy flowing out it's back which resembles wings.

What is really cool is the connection between the themes of Malzeno and Gaismagorm and their overall design they are based off. Dracula is usually known to gain his powers from the Devil himself in myths and Malzeno is obviously based off a vampire while Gasimagorm is (as his name suggest) an Archdemon. Malzeno has technically gained power from Gaismagorm as he learned to live with the Qurio and they give him a lot of powers that he has in game. Qurio thanks to this concept also gain a lot as a design. They both look like bats and flames so they fit for both monsters. Right before Gaismagorms reveal, one of the characters says story book type of myth about the Archdemon and it's quite chilling as a whole, but my favourite part is: "The archdemon shall devour the land, turning souls into wandering flames" I think its genius that they turned the concept of souls being sucked out of people into small kritters that suck the life and look like flying flames when they come back to their host to feed him. While Gaisma is not a part of the main trio, he still fits really well into the horror topic, but since here we get something more close to evil in religion, he was designed to be unnatural, unholy, weird and misunderstood. Werewolf, vampire and frankenstein are still connected to humanity, they either were a human or were created by the humans. Demons... are from hell, they don't belong on earth and so when they do come to us, they create chaos and destruction on scale that is too dangerous to our world. That's why I think, while there are some elements in both Gaisma and Malzeno OST that are similar, Malzeno theme is full of grace, power, beauty, while Gaisma is full of terror, death, fear. Malzeno is still "a normal dragon" he looks normal for MH standards, is a beautiful creature as well and so his theme is still full of life, beautiful and powerful. We all sometimes admire vampires, they do suck blood and are scary but also usually very beautifull and royal. I think the organ is what connects him to Gaisma, it represents that "unnatural" element of sucking life out of creatures/ Gaismagorms theme is full of terror and fear, the choir feels scared of him when it sings. He looks bloated, deformed, his body seems to be more adapted for underground than surface and so his movement also is a bit weird. There is nothing gracefull about this theme, it slowly crawls out like him and then creates chaos just like him. I always say that Gaisma looks so weird that withot his themes he would not be considered a good design but now I feel that was the point. To make him as weird and ugly as possible, to make him feel both alien and still somewhere close to real weird stuff that lives underground. He strikes me in similar manner as Shara Ishvalda did in Iceborne - just a freaky thing that lives deep in the earth and while looking at it you wished you never knew things like that live underground. Also I can't unsee some Pacific Rim and True Dracula form from Castlevania inspirations with this design. Pacific Rim monsters also were coming out of the bottom of the sea and had huge blue mouths while true from of Drac from Castleviania... well was a greenish/blue Demon with small horns and giant body (well at least in some versions)

Gaismagorm's fight is absolutely nuts. You fight him on a chasm beneath the earth where he was hibernating. You have to fight Gaismagorm and fire at it with heavy siege artillery as it's trying desperately to climb out and come into our world, all while it is shooting enourmous lasers and explosions that are pretty hard to dodge. Definitely an awesome cinematic experience

while the Three lords all have specific inspirations in their designs, Gaismagorm also has a very specific inspiration while most people would say the devil technically they're right but it goes much deeper than that. There are 2 specific inspirations for Gaismagorm, the first is Beelzebub otherwise known as the "Lord of Flies" Gaismagorm controls the Qurio which are all small flying life draining pests so he could also be called a "Lord of Flies". Beelzebub is the demon that represents the sin of Gluttony and Gaismagorm also wants to devour the life force of any monster that it comes across possibly representing Gluttony. The second and biggest inspiration is Abbadon the "Angel of the Abyss" Abbadon is a destroyer that appears in the book of revelation during the end of the world, Gais also has a similar title in "Abyssal Archdemon" referencing Abbadon. Abbadon is also described as when he appears he crawls out of a bottomless pit and brings an army of locusts that bring a great plague this heavily resembles Gaismagorm crawling out of a giant pit near the end and his Qurio causing a great anomaly and infecting all the monsters similar to the locust bringing a great plague

Not only the thing looks like it just crawled out of Treachery, but it is also based on the Devil if it wasn't obvious with the mouth having six hooks, its back in the cutscene resembled the Devil's horns and some parts of the theme has the Devil's interval with the tri-notes and even in the beginning, it has six beats for the measure used time and time again. It is literally just a subterranean Satan in mole-rat form.

The funny thing is that Gaismagorm unleashed the Qurio to fight Malzeno, but then Malzeno pulled an UNO reverse card and then used their energy to power himself up. The fight between the two almost completely destroyed an entire nation. And then Malzeno forced Gaismagorm to retreat to his underground nest. And when we kill Malzeno, Gaismagorm then uses this chance to return.

Let me tell you. The way I screamed in terror when this beast just crawled out of that big hole in the floor after beating Malzeno was pretty fucking interesting. So pretty spot on with "sounds like it's climbing up in the beginning" because that is EXACTLY what this thing is doing to greet you. I was so glad I got to experience this creature first hand, it's really something else. Also I still love how you just let yourself get taken along by the music, listening with your whole body, really shows how much you adore music!

Monster hunter soundtracks are always some of the best. If you're still looking into this, there's 2 I will always keep suggesting, Shagaru Magala, and the Arch Tempered Velkhana themes are both glorious. Shagaru Magalas is this triumphant theme of power and majesty, and the AT Velk theme is very difficult for me to describe (though I'm sure you'd somehow find the exact correct words in moments) but it sort of feels like a sendoff to the Iceborne. Not to MHW as a whole, that was Fatalis' job, but AT Velkhana specifically feels like it ending off the iceborne chapter.

I'm gonna go off what you said and what I've seen others say about Giasmagorm being the devil but the whole "zombie" thing you mentioned actually fits the Qurio really well which Giasmagorm uses for power by feeding off the life of ecosystems which brings calamity. And for why the Malzeno theme kinda showed up is that Malzeno made a pact with said Qurio in a similar way but a lot more controlled and refined and not ecosystem destroying. The very neat part is Giasmagorm being called a demon instead of a monster and this pact with it's Qurio can be seen as a deal with the devil for power. It's honestly crazy how good Capcom is at putting a spin on things like that into their monster hunter world.

It's really interesting that you mentioned about zombie. All those red sparkling effects around Gaismagorm in game is actaully Qurioes. Once in a while, Gaismagorm makes a great hole and spread Qurioes and collect essences to feed Gaismagorm. Which makes monsters very aggressive and poisoned human and kill them. It has some similar aspect with zombie. Spreading disease and killing them or making them very aggressive like zombie.

I find it interesting how "Gaia" appears in the name gaismagorm. Gaia being the greek deity representing the earth and the mother of like half the greek deities out there. She's also not very nice. Gorm I guess sounds sort of mean maybe? Apparently it means "axel grease" which probably isn't what capcom was going for.

Gaismagorm is literally the devil. In the original story of Dracula, which Malzeno is based off of, he made a deal with the devil for his power. I say anything else and it goes into spoiler territory but yeah, that's why the music is so ominous. You are fighting the highest form of evil.

While everyone is suggesting Shantien's theme, I would like to suggest Berserk Raviente's. It's a very tribal theme, since Raviente is basically a ritual, the "Great Slaying", where you have to kill this half a kilometer long monster that has destroyed an entire ecosystem on a now deserted island. Phase 5 is the best part imo.

One of my personal favorite themes is crimson fatalis from monster hunter frontier, not many people talk about it, probably since so little has heard it in the game themselves and it does get overshadowed by the fatalis theme in iceborne

As many others allready said Gaismagorm isnt one of the Three lords who are moddeled after Movie Monsters (Malzeno= Vampires, Lunagaron= Werewolfs, Garengolm= Golems/Frankensteins monster). Gaismagorm does however have certain features that kinda sorta imply that its based on the Devil, when its mouth opens it kinda looks like a Pentagram, its implyed to once used to have Wings so it fell from the sky at some point, it lives deep underground and wants to come back to the surface... In case it isnt clear allready Gaismagorm is the Final Boss of Sunbreak.

Hey Marco ! It's been a while. It seems you still have fun reacting to those game soundtracks x) You really got the monster showing from underground stuff hehe. The Frankestein monster you talked about is not Gaismagorm but another one (sadly it doesn't have its own theme). Gaismagorm is truly designed like a demon that you fight in hell. It's theme is really opposed to the Narwa one, which was more like a song to a goddess, with grace and epicness. Now i have to watch all your recations i missed hehe. It will be fun !

The intro made me feel as though it's clear that this thing, this creature you're looking at, is evil, and powerful. It cannot be allowed to continue, as if its very existence is not meant to be. That first big peak made me feel like it's a realization of exactly what you're up against, the level of threat it poses to not just you, but nature as a whole.

Gaismagorm is the "arch demon" monster, he is the most closed thing to the "great ruler of the underworld", twisted in objetive, but he fell no pain or shame, because the massacre he will do in the normal world is just how he feed it. That why the great knight malzeno fight him, and he win after all, because he cursed the knight.

I saw someone recommending Chesed’s theme from Library of Ruina, and that’s valid, but other and better picks from that same game; Gone Angels by Mili, Angela’s battle theme, Roland’s battle theme, Binah’s battle theme. Honestly the whole soundtrack would be great, especially the Mili songs. Children of the city might be a good video too? Play Library of Ruina is the point.

Gaismagorm is actually Monster Hunter: Rise's depiction of the devil. If you look at its jaws when they are open, they form the shape of a pentagram, and visually there is a lot of hellfire and 'morning star' symbolism in it's attacks :) The frankinstein monster in this game was garangolm just fyi which was a big monkey and did not have its own unique theme unlike gaismagorm and malzeno.

Not sure if anyone else pointed out yet but when Gaismagorm opens its mouth fully, it makes a pentagram shape. Gaismagorm's title of "Archdemon of the Abyss" and its ability to exert control and manipulate the Quiro are attributed to Abaddon from Judaeo-Christian myth which is another name for the Devil.

Fun fact Gaismagorm is based on Satan which makes sense since it is called the Archdemon of The Abyss and its rival is The Guardian Knight of Peace aka The Legend Resurrected Primordial Malzeno the Archangel Of Elgado and protector of its home making them two sides of the same coin while Primordial Malzeno wants to protect the World, Gaismagorm wants to destroy it, while Primordial Malzeno destroys the Qurio and rejects their symbiosis, Gaismagorm embraces them and is their head honcho and finally while Primordial Malzeno desires peace in the kingdom, Gaismagorm wants to unleash Calamity on all showing that there’s a battle of good and evil between these Two Elder Dragons which I love what Capcom did and you can really emphasise with Primordial Malzeno and why it keeps on fighting, all and all this this game will always be in my heart for being the only game to make have a joy in preparing my gear for new monsters of facing them head on with the gear I have…

Hit the nail on the head for just about everything. Geismagorm is the "Archdemon of the Abyss". Really cool fight and probably one of my favorite final bosses so far in the series. I do really like how grandiose and old the theme sounds too. Completely different from the Gog Mazios theme which feels like more of an abomination.

He's literally satin. And Melzeno's organ is actually the relation to HIM, and he makes the Qurio, who convert life to fuel and energy which Melzeno has aquired the use of but that power is HIS and he's emerging from the kingdom his power destroyed

Those are like 3 separate themes and it'd be cool to see your thoughts on them. Dravonista has a medley of all 3 tracks so if you want to check them out in one go I would recommend his video.

ok, just a little ting to say here The three lords are malzeno (dracula), lunagaron (werewolf) and garangolm (frankenstein), they are based in they tales Gaismagorm are diferent, he are based on the original myth of vampire (not dracula, vampire), in the original myth, a man gave they soul to the devil inself for imortality Gaismagorm gave to malzeno the qyro, this take out malzeno life to give more power, so malzeno (like the true myth vampire) need keep taking lifes, feeding the quyro and becoming more stronger, but the source of power are gaismagorm, who play the role as devil And in mh sunbreak story, devil inself go out of the hell to take the living world ow shoot, my english are really bad, AND IM LATE!!!!!

As the final boss of Subreak Gaismagorm takes the horror villain theme to it's final conclusion. It is referred to as a demon multiple times. IT emerges from a crack in the world looks more like an animal in the first phase but then covers itself in blood and fire to truly look demonic as the fight progresses. One of the coolest story bosses in a Monster Hunter game (a bit easy though). How about Velkhana theme for something a bit more lighthearted.

I adore this monster and his music. Arguably the best final boss monster Hunter has done in terms of fight and story. The characters never refer to Gaismagorm as a monster or an animal, but a demon. There’s this sense of looming dread throughout the end of the game. Malzeno is dead but these blood thirsty winged parasites you thought he controlled are now attacking and killing other monsters. You learn that Malzeno was not the master of these parasites but merely capable of holding them back. Only for their true master to emerge from the depths of the earth. It looks as though hell opens and this Goliath abomination comes slithering out, leading to a battle in the bowels of the earth with a demon dragon that lights the blood it consumes on fire in an attempt to annihilate you. Going deeper, his vaguely serpentine body, the somewhat pentagram shaped mouth, a description on one of his materials that insinuates that he was once able to fly, and since lost those heights, and the fact that his powers are taken by a vampiric dragon much akin to how the devil granted his powers to Dracula, and we find ourselves with thematic and design choices indicative of Lucifer. Gaismagorm is one of the coolest, and most intimidating monsters MH has ever produced.
