Fun fact that will probably be relevant to a future video: The opening of Xiao's character demo "Doomsbane" OST "Path of Yaksha" uses half of the bassline from E1M1 (the first and arguably most iconic OST from the original DOOM) as an homage since he's a daemon killer who has slain probably hundreds of thousands of daemons over the course of his long life, similar to the Doom Marine. It breaks into a more intense version of the regular Liyue character motif for most of the song, but I think it's a really cool detail.

A game soundtrack I'd recommend to try out is the first Redout game, it's an anti gravity racing game in a similar style to Wipeout or F zero. While the music isn't really there to tell a story, it does an amazing job of using trance style to control the pace you feel like you're going at, and keep you driving forward, while also being the foundation for other styles of instruments/music (guitars, orchestral, electronic) to give each area you race in it's own instantly recognizable flair (Each race area has 2 themed songs). Some examples i like are Subsurface (Europa), Arabia Terra and Nearby Stars (Mars), On my own (Alaska), The Lost Hook (Rotorua). Great Dark Spot and Red storm are two great tracks to hear an Orchestral style fit into a game about racing in space at supersonic speeds.

I didn't know how much I wanted to see this reaction till I saw the title. This masterpiece by Mick Gordon is my favorite theme in Doom Eternal and was happy we got a full version for its OST given the controversy behind it. And now, to quote a wise slayer long ago, I want to go out and kill one stone with two bird. PS: I don't know if I want to be around you in the gym if you're gonna work out with this theme.

0:45 Well about that. I watched a composer analysis of this same song and at one point he used violins to play the melody, and it actually sounded amazing. Check Alex Moukala video at around the 6 minutes mark. It's actually pretty darn cool.

Mick Gordon did this awesome panel a few years back at GDC (game developers conference) explaining how he made the soundtrack. It's on the GDC channel, called DOOM: Behind the Music. It's a really good watch. Anyway, cool video! I'm glad you checked out something drastically different from classical :) Don't get me wrong, I love classical, but sometimes it's cool to branch out. Glad to see you enjoyed this hella cool song!

Since you liked this so much, I really recommend listening to these: 1/ Rip and Tear, but listen to the 'gamerip' version by "RY0G4" instead of the standard release. IMO, that version is much more interestingly arranged. 2/ Listen to BFG Division and then Mastermind immediately after, see if you find similarities. Great stuff as always!

A good Doom song that does actually prominently feature the Heavy Metal choir is Kar En Tuk, also from Doom Eternal! 100% recommend it, it’s really cool!

Well for me it sounded like screams of fear and agony. But what makes it so good - these are the screams of demons. And they are scared of you. It is what makes this so canonically powerful and "goes with anything" type of track - it sounds like a theme of some crazy powerful demon that wrecks chaos, but in reality it's just a track about how demons are scared of Doomguy😂

3:56 I love synesthesia, the image that comes to mind is a field of bismuth ore (a field of grass, but instead of grass it’s that weird rainbow rock that grows in cubes) flying past me at 400 miles per hour, while I am in some kind of aeroplane, either I’m in the back of a troop carrier with the back door thing open, while I’m standing there holding on for deaf life, or I’m flying upside down above of the field in a jet fighter without the cockpit hatch attached . Yes I know synesthesia is the assignment of different senses to concepts of other senses, I do that *and* weird brain scenery

So when you were talking about how the minute long build up subverted expectations, the reason for so much build up is in the game there is usually one song per stage, when you are walking around completing objectives the more ambient build up portions of the song play basically on loop, while the harder drops and hardcore sections only play during massive fight arenas. So there needs to be enough “build up” in the song to loop without sounding strange

fun fact: a few of the communities favorite tracks used a chainsaw as a sound sample thats remixed, dragged through the mud and blood, tossed in a tech grinder, tossed into the argent pits of hell then garbled through several synthesizers and then through some old garage speakers to bring out the dirtiest riffs possible all thanks to the man the myth the legend mick gordon most of that was obviously fluff but the chainsaw bit is true and the entire fun fact lol, had to add the rest as part of the doom fan contract

Raw aggression, channeled hatred, bloodlust unquelled; I’ve best seen this described as the boss music all of hell hears when you unleash your fury across the realms, mick Gordon truly cranked this game from being just fantastic to LEGENDARY, you can HEAR your weapons screaming in this wanting more gore and death, doom has always been defined by the details that build it and ensuring that the music was set to match the raw brutality you enact was the perfect choice, in this you hear the screams of the damned and use it as a fucking weapon; I can’t imagine a doom eternal without this soundtrack; BLESS YOU MICK GORDON MY PAGAN GODS ARE SO PLEASED

😎 How you feel listening too the doom ost. Just man metal is perfect for slaying demons. Also loved how Mick uses some crazy electronic sounds and if I remember correctly hes used a heavily edited chainsaw lol. Cant remember which song but its pretty crazy and awesome. But damn the music from doom 2016 is what got me to play it and what kept me playing. The gameplay is of course fun but man the music just does the magic. Think it must have been bfg division is the first one I heard and its my fav from 2016 lol.
