The yoddle runs and riffs she does is based on her Arabian/Eastern ethnicity and knowledge of Arabian Music. In Arabian Music, we have something called the maqan which has quarter tones or notes. That's the half note of a half note basically. All Arab singers use it but only for Arabic songs , she uses the maqam/ micronotes and English which makes it very unique.

I love how positive you are with yourr reactions. Faouzia is truly a gifted songwriter, and if she wrote the piano arrangement, even more respect from me. That's amazing, and in the best way possible. i love that, even though you sing opera, you listen to other genres. I think it's a misconception that opera singers don't like, much less listen to, pop, or other non-classical genres. I know that's an awful, awful stereotype or assumption, and I'm truly sorry for having made it, or for thinking others have as well. My hat's off to you. The little I heard of your singing was very good. Generally, I have to be in the mood for opera, but I have the deepest respect for what you guys do, the control it takes to produce such vocals. The music theory was exciting! It's refreshing to hear some of it mentioned. I sadly don't remember most of what I learned in college, but I loved it so very much, so it's awesome to come across it in videos, reaction and otherwise. :)

Thank you for the detailed deconstruction of structures and music choices. This a very different approach from other reactors - in a very good way. I wonder though how music theory ties in with a self-taught talent composing such a song - is this just her talent and musical sensibility that finds effective techniques of expression, or of being receptive to other musicians that she admires and acquiring influences from others ? i.e. is a talented composer/musician/singer a creator who rediscovers approaches or more of an re-arranger who amalgamates different sources ?
@jessicasopranonotes4 жыл бұрын
Thats such a great question. If I'm honest, I find it mostly to be the former. Her talent and musical sensibilities that finds effective techniques and expressions. I find it hard to believe that she would be sitting down saying to herself that singing on 4 instead of 3 would sound interesting and dissonant. I feel her emotions and her natural abilities in singing and writing would lead her to these types of compositions. It just so happens to come out extremely interesting because she's got a gift. But a very thought-provoking conversation.
@bi1iruben4 жыл бұрын
@@jessicasopranonotes I've caught glimpses of past short videos on her channel where she showcases songs that are "work in progress" - so very open & brave of her. One can then see changes to the finished song that comes out some time later, but these are with full band & studio production so difficult to directly compare. It has therefore been such a pleasure to see her "stripped" versions of all her main songs which I generally prefer, and then this stripped concert with a pianist allowing her to concentrate more fully on her singing & performance.

I’ve watched a lot of different Faouzia reactions and you are definitely one of my favorites! I love all the extra information you give us and you really make me see things from a different perspective. You should definitely check out: Born without a heart (stripped), Bad dreams (live from q on cbc) and Elon (live).
