A1 isn't really especially low for Geoff. He goes lower than that in almost every VoicePlay recording for the last several years. E1 is a somewhat more typical lowest-note-in-the-song for him. He hits a prominent lyric-carrying C1 at the end of Way Down (though it required multiple takes) and can in principle hit notes as low as A0.

I love this cover so much! One of my favorites! He also hit a B0 in voiceplay's Halo theme cover. Love Geoff's music so much but this will always sit at the top.

Geoff's range is around five octaves. His lowest note to date was a B0 though it wasn't sung as such, just intoned, in VoicePLay's Halo . He sang a C1 in Low Down. But as he says, low notes are only worth doing if they sound good too. He works on his technique constantly. Yes, his nasality isn't always what people want but he employs it for a reason. Something you might enjoy is VoicePlay's version of the Beatles' Eleanor Rigby, attanged on that occasion by Eli. It's lovely.

a tiny note from what my ears picked up before his gargling low note, i think he jumps down, but lightly lifts the note a half step. Then does the harmony, then that gargling note.

You have heard quite a few notes lower than an A1 on this channel. Geoff hits an E1 in the Oogie Boogie song for example.

I had the same reaction to this song as you did at the 10:00 mark. Geoff and Kathy filmed this in their living room, after their little boy was supposed to be asleep. "Daddy, is that Blackbird?" "Yes. Now go back to sleep or the toilet monsters will get you." Did you notice the staggered fly, fly, fly at 5:45 so it sounds like fluttering wings? After this video he decided representing each vocal line with a clone was too time-consuming unless it's needed for balance, like with Ghost Riders in the Sky. Geoff practiced to access the E1 for Oogie Boogie's Song, and after practicing to hit the C1 at the end of Way Down, is now using a C#1 a lot. That's how he makes it seem effortless ... lots and lots of practice.

He did this from home and trying to be quiet as his son was supposed to be sleeping. He heard "Dad, is that Blackbird?" "Yes, go back to sleep." I'm 71, and grew up with this. Last year,, I read an interview with Paul McCartney who talked about what he had in mind when he wrote this. It was to honor the American Civil Rights movement and phrases such as "All your life you were only waiting for this moment to arrive / be free.", "Take these broken wings and learn to fly.", "Take these sunken eyes and learn to see all your life." I pissed off my parents by supporting the civil rights movement and protesting the Vietnam War but I couldn't do anything less.

I love Geoff, but as lovely as this is, harmonies and all, Blackbird, one of my favorite Paul McCartney songs, gets its special beauty from its simplicity. There is too much going on. And Geoff can sing incredibly low, but he doesn’t have to prove it in every song. His higher range works well, the low end I found distracting. So many people have covered this song over the decades. But Paul with guitar is my favorite, as well as the original album version by the Beatles. On their classic White Album. What an album! Paul is still singing this song now, because it is so loved. I also love Jeff Beck’s non-lyric version. Just guitar. Well he is, by everyone’s standard, in the top five all-time best guitarists. Well, my top 5. Certainly every critic’s top 10. This from a random Google, especially the last sentence, reflects what I’m trying to say: “Written in response to racial tensions in the USA in 1968 and appears on The White Album, now considered one of The Beatles’s best albums. "Blackbird" is an incredibly beautiful, simple song with pared-down vocals by Paul McCartney.”
