Mariah's early hits were vocal suicide, even tho she sounds different today you have to take into account the countless tours and special appearances that she did for most of the 90's performing those crazy notes live, at one point she even had to complain about being overworked by her management btw, of course that takes a toll on a voice that also had to deal with nodules. She's absolutely a once in a lifetime talent, a freak of nature, we are blessed to share this timeline with the Songbird Supreme.
@krissy9128

Tbh her entire catalog is vocal suicide. Caution is the only album where she doesn't do crazyyyy vocal gymnastics. Don't know if anyone noticed but she has literally never taken time off. Worked her voice for 33+ years straight while having nodules too. People don't truly understand how difficult it is to sing her songs. So, it sad they bash ber today. Smh She sounds so good in lowers keys and less gymnastics today. Basically, she should now stick to her low to mid range (+ whistles) and practice great agility and no one would notice she's having more trouble the older she gets.
@Ciclopea2
@Ciclopea2 Жыл бұрын
@@krissy9128 i remember watching a vocal coach analyzing her, he praised her especially on being able to sing with her nodules, he basically said that with what she had it's a miracle she can even speak and credited that to her technique. I agree with what you say especially the last bit about adapting her sound to the changes in her voice.
@krissy9128

@@Ciclopea2 oh I would love to find that video. And yes! I'm surprised she sang like that beyond 5 years. I mean, Charmbracelet era for example, was her second vocal peak...flawless tone, insane agility (as usual), crazier arrangements, stamina, transitions etc. Then she went on to do very well for years beyond that. Her troubles reallu became most noticeable and scrutinized in 2014 onward, and people started to act like they don't know wtf Mariah is capable of 🙄. So annoying because when she's done great (2014 - current) they play dumb and don't bat an eye. Smh

Mariah's whistle register was quite special. A very unique tone to her whistles, the fluidity was unique as well...but most of all it was her musicianship when using them that sets her above everyone else. She knew exactly when to use them for great musical effect. She didn't use them just to show off...it made musical sense. It was an integral part of her singing. She and Minnie are the absolute queens of that register. No one else ever had the same control, ability and musicianship like those two did.

She mentioned how she wrote most of her songs in her high school years but the label felt offended to have a female as the only credits for the money with the writing so they added men on to almost all her earlier song credits even though she had already had the songs completely written in her style arrangements before even leaving high school
@strangerthings88

Where did she mention that?? I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with being offended as that label poured all the money they had to make her the top priority and there have always been amazing female songwriters before her.

FALSE - her writing partner was Ben Marguiles. She's been writing and producing with him since high school. It was his studio where she recorded her demos. Columbia teamed her up with other writers and producers after buying him out in a shady deal. They often didn't give her credit for all the work she did and automatically 50% of anything she wrote went to someone else whether or not they contributed. Such as Walter.

You all get the Mariah Carey bitch slap for that. You use words you don't understand. There's multiple versions of each song from this night because a live taping is a collage of takes. And listening to the same exact performance with crappy analog equipment from the audience complete with audio debris isn't "undubbed".

@julinaavril4565 11 ай бұрын
Yup, she did emotions twice (a warm up & this exact final version). Also, entire undubbed is literally 99% the same as the dubbed. They just made sure the audio was clear and corrected very minor parts (e.g . BGV missed the cue in Can't Let Go & Trey's run in IBT) for commercial purposes.

I was in my early 20s when she came onto the scene, and as a choir tenor brat, I spent so many days trying to access my whistle register because of her. Mucho apologies to my parents as I belted a lot of her songs with earphones on. But she forced me, like a lot of the divas of the 80s and 90s, to be on top of my breath and phrasing.

Hi Maggie, I am so glad you reacted to Miss Mariah Carey. When she came out in 1990 at the age of 20 years old, she had to face "the voice" Miss Whitney Houston and, at that time, it was not easy for her to become famous. So, as she is a professional as a songwriter, she also had to prove she could sing. The multiple riffs, runs and her 5.4 octave range certainly helped her to achieve her mastery at singing. Her mother who was an opera singer trained her to do all the acrobatics she often uses in her songs. You can hear all the subtle intricaties in almost every song of her immense catalog. I think you could react to "vision of love", her first single with an epic intro but above all, even if she never sang it live, the song "so cold", when she starts from the note A2 (her lowest album note) and jumps up to the 7th octave. And finally, there many "Emotions" live performances and especially the one performed on Arsenio Hall in 1991 when she hits the final note Bb7 (her highest note live).

I heard some skinny about this performance. She was known as a studio singer before this performance, so this was her "coming out" to prove them all wrong.

Happy 30th, Emotions. RIP David (the father of Emotions. He’s there and the piano on the TRACK). He was the musical director here, too, so that look he gave @ the beginning….🙂🙂🖤❤️🤎💛💜4:23 Imagine being the studio when this was done being recorded. She said in the book that everyone was stuck🙂🙃

Pretty sure this song was her F you to the industry for saying she was just a recording artist and not a real artist. She she hit them with this full range song.

Not quite - that's how much the song has made. Most of it goes to Walter and her label, but she does still make millions off of it. Walter automatically gets a 50/50 split for contributing to writing anything whatsoever for the songwriting credits, and he was listed as the sole producer so he gets 100% of those credits. Mariah only makes 50% of songwriting credits and only gets paid as a singer if someone actually buys the album.

She has gone up to a G7 and Bb7 for this song in other performances. There's also some amazing 7th octave whistle stacattos in the song 'All in your mind', it's just too bad there aren't any good live recordings of this song.

Some people keep saying that Mariah Carey is "untrained" and I don't even know where they get that information from. People say things like "She's the best untrained singer ever" but actually she's not untrained at all. Her mom was an opera singer and she coached her and she's definitely where Mariah got her insane level of talent from.

You need to listen to the original studio version and Compare the intro notes with this. The intro was created using various techniques like comping technique which allows the sound engineers to put together multiple vocal recordings recorded individualdually into one record

She can never sing the intro live the way it was recorded so she has to hipnotized the fans that she was singing at a higher note
