This was included on the soundtrack for a movie, and they seemed to be aiming for a more mainstream, easily digestible sound, likely to show that they could do straight forward as well as they do epic. Personally, if I'm looking for something to play while I'm driving or cleaning, I'm going to include songs like this on the playlist. It has its place in the catalogue, for sure.

It used to be normal that Nighwish albums had both relatively straight metal tracks and epic multi-part compositions. And that's how I like it. Epics like GLS are best enjoyed in setting where you focus solely on music, like watching these reactions. But I would not always put them on my playlist. The playlists usually comprise of tracks that give me energetic background to do sports or my work, not elaborate artistic scores Both have their place, and I kind of wish Nighwish would keep doing both.

Tarja vs. Floor has very little progress to do with it. If anything, Floor era versions of the straightforward rock tracks are more typical metal tracks because unlike Tarja, she's fine using the whole contemporary range of expression. Tarja would rather stay on operatic or at least classical style.

Tuomas wrote this song after taking his then girlfriend to a bar and having people he knew, and knew she was his girlfriend, start hitting on her, in front of him. He was pissed, wrote this song.

This was more or less made to show anyone, that Nightwish is a Metal Band and can do heavy and straight forward Metal songs if they want to - maybe some one was teasing them of the Symphonic Metal bands are not real Metal Bands and they thought that "Right, we'll show them once and for all.." :D

This song, Romanticide and Ghost Love Score are all from the same "Once" album. Which was the first recorded with a proper orchestra. So yeah they usually have some more regular songs on their albums too. I remember when Once came out and it really raised them to another level. Their second album, Oceanborn, has a special place in my heart too. That was basically just a power metal album but you can hear the seed growing there.

Actually no, "Bye Bye Beautiful" has more than double the views. That is also one of their more "mainstream" songs (the lead singer is Anette), and the video has been on KZbin longer.

hello here , nightwish has always been a group evolving in its own way, and each album is different from the others, especially the album once which marked a breakthrough in the metal industry at the time in 2004, I would advise you to do a piece of each album from start to finish to see this evolution. For example : Beauty And The Beast or Nymphomaniac Fantasia. for the first album Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean and Passion And The Opera for the second. FantasMic for the third. Beauty Of The Beast for the fourth. Dark Chest Of Wonders or Creek Mary's Blood for once. eva or Meadows Of Heaven for the sixth. Taikatalvi or The Crow, The Owl And The Dove for Imaginaerum. Edema Ruh and The Eyes Of Sharbat Gula of the eighth and pan or procession for the last. the chosen titles will show you the difference in evolution as well as music you can listen to on KZbin. a pleasure to follow your videos.

Tuomas has always written long, story-telling songs. Beauty and the Beast is a song from their very first album and there's a good quality live performance of it. This is probably one of their most mainstream songs, and a lot of fans actually aren’t huge on it. I’d recommend Dead Boy’s Poem with Tarja singing. The “From Wishes To Eternity” concert version really shows off her voice. Or if you want even more operatic, Sleepwalker from Eurovision is beautiful!

People always tell me that Tuomas makes completely different music today. Nightwish used to be much more gothic. The song shows that that's not true. He was always poppy too. It also makes it easier to understand why he had a pop singer, Anette, as his next singer. Back then he paid more attention to the charts than he does today.

Nightwish almost from very beginning wrote long songs with different stories, just this particular song is faster and more metal aggressive in sound. For example Ghost Love Score and Dead Boys Poem were sung live by Tarja a long time ago.

I am fairly sure I know what was bothering you. Parts of the drum fills were manufactured by computer, basically pre-recorded backing track behind the live drums. You are not used to hearing that from this band, which is completely understandable. They have ALWAYS been known as one of the greatest Live Bands on Earth so hearing them do something 'not-quite-so-live' in an MV is a little bit weird. But it does keep you on your toes. :)

Yes, Floor is just the current singer. The majority of the songs Floor performs are from the Tarja or Annette eras. And, Floors videos have better video quality. Tarja left in 2005. Video quality has changed drastically since then.

The majority of the songs you hear Floor sing, are from the Tarja and Annette eras. They released 5 albums with Tarja, 2 with Annette, and soon 3 with Floor. They don’t play a lot of songs from the Floor albums. The video and stage quality is better with Floor because Tarja left in 2005. They filmed concerts much differently back then. Everything you spoke about literally has nothing to do with Floor. She just has the privilege of being the current singer. Technology has drastically improved since 2005.
