Endless Space has such an original, unique lore for being a turn-based sci-fi 4X game. First, there were Endless. Spacefaring, superadvanced civilization. They went extinct. Vodyani are connected to one of the branches of the Endless, "The Virtual Branch". Their bodies are no more, only their conscious selves were uploaded into some kind of suits that could contain them. There's almost something religious and mystical about the state of being they are, especially that they revere who they are and that they exist in such a peculiar form.

I can highly recommend "Together to the Stars", its humanity's theme in the game, and is a glorious mixture of soviet choirs singing with pragmatic industrialism. Incredibly moving and well composed, and highly unique.

I'm guessing you'll get plenty of recommendations but i'll try anyway: You should definitely react to "Immaterial Breath" which is the theme song for the Umbral Choir. It's very spooky and kinda sad, yet uplifting at the same time!

3 other Great tracks in Endless Sapce 2 1. Riftborn Prologue. It's very short but also leaves a strong impact. 2. Cygnus A bit on the longer side, but is arguably one of the best tracks in the game, and certainly the most memorable bar the next one. 3. Flawlwss Theory (Endless Space 2 Version) Some version of Flawless Theory has been in every game in the Endless franchise. First with Endless Space 1, then Endless Legend, and most recently Endless Space 2. It's no wonder that this track has become synonimous with the franchise because it's just so darn catchy.

Cygnus and Flawless Theory (ES2) are among my absolute favorites from the entire Endless Series. The Endless (ES2) is also outstanding! then theres Geodesic and Boltzmann Brains. The Endless Legend rendition of Flawless Theory is also really good when I am feeling more fantasy versus space opera.

A lot of the endless space , both 1 and 2's ost have some really nice chorus-heavy tracks in em. The factions themes , trailers and overall worldbuilding and lore behind it is quite interesting. What then becomes apparent, though the music as well is that it's the same universe. Endless space, Endless Legend and even the dungeoncrawly tower defense spin-off dungeon of the endless are all linked but play in different periods of time. Races and themes will reappear but may have drastically changed in the time that passed while some stay the same. Thematically the Hissho theme from ES2 is great (think futuristic samurai avians), 'Together to the Stars' The United Empire (human) theme has a lot of character as well you may enjoy.

Oh boy, Endless Space 2! I'm so happy to see you covering It, It has such a ton of good songs, not only ES2 but the the Endless franchise as a whole and the Humankind game (another 4X) are such great songs. Amplitude Studios are insane on the soundtrack and illustrations departaments, Across the Drift, Flawless Theory and Mercury are their gems OST in my opinion. Also, the 4X and Grand Strategy game genres has so much cool soundtracks to evoque hymns, national anthems, period and folk songs, from feelings of epic moments to tragedies and hopes, it's such a specific vibe to these types of games that it's a shame they aren't as well known outside of the strategy game community.

So as a rundown on the Endless games, there are 3 of them which are all connected. You have Endless Space 2, Endless Legend, and Dungeon of the Endless (there's also Endless Space, but Endless Space 2 is pretty much a full reboot/retelling of it). Endless Space and Endless Legend are both 4x strategy games, with Legend taking place on a hex map like the Civilization games and Space taking place on a galaxy map. Dungeon of the Endless is a cross between a tower defense and a roguelite game. These games take place in the Endless universe, where there was a vast empire of precursors known as, well, the Endless. They were extremely powerful and technologically advanced, with much of their technologies being powered by nanomachines known as Dust. Interestingly, the first Dust used by the Endless was organic and harvested from beings known as the Lost, which were pretty much like cosmic consciousnesses. Eventually the Endless split into two factions, the Concrete and the Virtual. The Concrete wished to keep their mortal bodies and improve upon them while the Virtual wanted to digitize themselves. Eventually the Endless end up wiping themselves out, and only ruins and relics are left behind as well as the various experiments they concocted. That leads us far into the future, to the events of Dungeon of the Endless, where a Mezari (ancient human empire) prison ship crash lands on the planet Auriga, an old Endless research planet. This then leads to Endless Legend, where the descendants of the crash survivors,as well as survivors of another Mezari colony ship crash, must contend with other races on Auriga, both native and the many experiments of the Endless, to survive as the planet freezes. The Mezari descendants, known as the Vaulters, eventually escape Auriga after repairing the colony ship and this leads to Endless Space 2, where they become one of the many factions vying for control of the galaxy. These factions in Endless Space 2 range from all sorts. You have the Vaulters and United Empire, both descendants of the Mezari, you have the Sophons, a new technologically advanced civilization of mad scientists. You have the Lumeris, aka the frog mafia. You have the Vodyani, beings which ruined their homeworld and were only saved by being digitized by the same technology as the virtual endless, and now act as a sort of religious sect of space vampires and fight in opposition to the Academy, a faction ruled by the Vodyani's former leader Isyandar, who seeks the return of the Lost who the Endless had destroyed.

The Endless universe games have incredible soundtracks to them. They ooze with atmosphere and character, and give these races you can play a unique feel to them. The stings that play when you colonize new planet types are also amazing. You should check out the Riftborn, Umbral Choir and Cravers themes. You can tell a lot about them and what drives them just from the music alone.

I am really into your interpretation. I think the whole thing makes more sense when you realize it isn't one person's struggle, but the struggle of an entire people. It's not one person's struggle and their growth, but an entire people's struggle. So it isn't one person's journey of growth, but rather one people's journey towards becoming Virtual, which they accomplish through purity from the flesh.

I'm so glad you're checking out Endless Space 2! I recommended a few weeks back so I'm glad a patreon proposed it as well. The soundtrack for this game is one of my favourite of all times, it is so masterfully composed. It is a 4X game (think Civilization, where you control an entire faction and manage it, go to war, expand, etc...) and the main theme for each faction represent them so wonderfully. Very underrated soundtrack. I hope you'll check more of them! Your analysis is not far off. Vodyani is not a character but a faction, but you still get most of it. Basically religious vampire worshipping virtual entities. They roam the universe and consume other species and planets so that one day they would rise, Virtuals.

Considering how hard these games are to get into I will just give you the run down of how close you were with the music. The short of it is pretty damn close. The Vodyani were a civilization of humanoids that consumed all the resources of their planet to the point of unsurvivability. They would have all perished had they not found the remnants of a long gone previous civilization that had mastered the art of digitalizing. Worshipping these unknowably advanced life forms, they built their new bodies in the shape of the predecessors. Now a major faction, they must find their place in the galaxy, and uncover the secrets of who exactly this bygone civilization was, and what to do with the knowledge they find. They are such a cool faction because they take religious fervor to its eventual end point. Viewing the synthetic humanoid bodies as a step to god, they make many unconscionable decisions in the quest to bring all under the church of the virtual endless. The theme is uplifting in this respect, but tinged with the metal madness. One of my favorite factions in the whole game! Don't play it. It's so hard to get into. Im just happy you liked the song :)

I disagree. Game s not that hard. But it will take time to learn the mechanism. After all you are building a galactic empire at each play. Diplomacy, elections, laws ,economy, scientific research, industry, planet and population management, commerces and economy, conquest , battles, effort of war. And so much more aspect ingame to handle and enjoy. Every play is different, and gamecis easy time sink for me. I highly recommend it. But don t have every add on and dlc.

Endless Space is really unique from every perspective. story, playable factions, music and gameplay. i'm glad you started with my favorite Endless Space 2 faction themes, and i would like to see what do you think about some other ones, like the Hissho or United Empire. also from the same creators, there is a fantasy 4x game called Endless Legend, it's factions, lore and music are just as unique as Endless Space's, take a listen to the faction themes there too, definitely worth it. also there is a faction called the Vaulters who are present in both games, and also a music that has a version in each Endless games, called "Flawless Theory", i see that one as a main theme for the Endless Universe itself, and it's beautiful

Arnaud Roy aka Flybyno is the composer. great works on Endless space, endless legends and humankind. Many orchestral comp but also some electronic fusion. All themes work really good with the games (4x turn per turn, long gameplay sessions)

My personal recommendations, in no particular order: Together to the Stars (the United Empire), Immaterial Breath (the Umbral Choir), and The Families (the Lumeris). Of course, the entire soundtrack is just one absolute banger after another, but I gotta limit myself to these three; otherwise I'd be writing this comment all night.

I feel like the themes for the different races in the game tell a story of the race so well. You have got to do the Unfallen theme (From the Heart). The song is almost like a call for others of their kind. It feels like it tells a story of them, what they have done, and what they must do.

you will probably never see this, but there is a link between the theme of the Vodyani (this one) and the theme of another species, the cravers, in the form of the kind of heartbeat you can hear (Tum _ Tutum tum Tum). My interpretation is that it's the auditive cue to the virtuals, a branch of the precursor specy. The Vodyani found there artifacts and aspire to become like them, chasing that beat and hoping to attune with it. The cravers, a bio-weapon developped by the Virtuals, have in their theme the same beat, but, slower and more mechanical, showing how despite their masters being long gone, they are still bond by the purpose they gave them : to destroy worlds, over, and over, and over. The name of their theme is "Driven by DNA"

Year old of course, but to give a bit more context as well, the 'leader' of sorts of the Vodyani faction, is siblings to one of the main NPC factions of the game, Isyander of The Academy. Directly referring to him many times as 'brother' in context of siblings rather then religion. She feels betrayed because he became a heretic after finding out some things about the religion they both once shared involving The Endless. I won't spoil a whole lot about it, granted a lot of people likely already know by now, at least those who have played, but there is definitely some sorrow to the start of the theme because of it.

If you love the combination of sharper electronic notes with natural elements you might like what the composer Fly By No (Real name Arnaud Roy) does with the rest of the Endless Space 2 soundtrack, as well as his work in Endless Legend. Humankind is also notably good in my opinion from the same composer and features many choral elements however is completely orchestral/vocal. Fly By No I think is pretty good at creating tracks with lots of subtle elements that work together well. For a similar piece in tone (not quite as electronic but still a more uplifting forward moving piece) from Endless Space 2 of rising up I'd recommend "Together To The Stars (Empire Theme)" the most while many of the background pieces like "Singularity" or "The Edge of the Sky" take quite a while to build up to an eventual payoff but I think might be good to listen too. For Endless Legend the main theme "Auriga's Song" is nice but I always liked the more punchy "Leave the Depths", "Shadows" and the very great almost serene at times instrumentals and transitions of "Flamesear". Endless Legend uses more real instruments compared to Endless Space 2 but still uses some electronics to create a sort of unreal mystical high fantasy theme with a very slight sprinkling of technological elements.

Best race, best story. They are all things I adore in scifi-fantasy, religious, high tech, mechanical, xenophobic (or super xenophile if u want since they suck everyone into energy and make new members of their race with best and strongest soul being brainwashed and taking over the collective in that body), absolutely bonkers! Prolly my fav race from all games and movies, wish they were used more as antagonists in some wider way in other games.
