Fun fact to add about this specific piece: This is the title screen theme. As in, the title screen. You know, the screen they show when you first boot the game up, and they show the logo of the game with "Start", "Options", "Load", etc (though in this game's case, the menu is completely blank with only the words "Press any Button" flashing on the corner of the screen)? The very same screen that players typically just quickly choose whatever and blaze right past on? Yeah, MonolithSoft put one of the most beautiful and thought provoking songs in the game, a theme of such suberb quality that any game series would love to have it within it's own OST...on a screen that most players are going to quickly skip out on. And like you yourself said, the song was made to start out very calm and simple before slowly becoming more and more bombastic and awe inspiring; so it's not like the song is going to instantly grab the attention of most people who first boot the game up since they'll either pay it no mind at all or just assume it is JUST a simple piano track and not such a beautiful piece of music and they'll move on before the song starts picking up. Given that the Xenoblade soundtrack is one of such incredible quality, some take this as Monolith making a statement such as "Our game's music is so good that we can afford to put one of the best tracks on a screen most people will not stay on for long" but personally, I feel like they put the song there as both a reward for people who do decide to remain on that screen for a while, and for thematic sense. The song itself, as you also said yourself, tells the tale of something that is more than just a mere journey (some even say it tells the game's whole plot perfectly), and the title screen itself complements the song by first starting out in the middle of the day but by the time the first crescendo hits the day has transitioned into sunset, then once the crescendo ends it has pass over into nighttime and the end of the song comes along with the dawn. It is very clear that the developers wanted the player to sit for a bit and listen while observing the title screen, and they made sure to reward the act with some absolutely sublime music and imagery. An incredible start to the experience that the game is about to provide the player.

Almost every time I boot up the game, I'll sit on the title screen for the whole song, watching the gorgeous sunrise, sunset, nighttime, and the sunrise again. I think this song is already amazing, but with those visuals, it just makes it a masterpiece. Honestly the best way to experience it

"Wait. Is this truly what you desire?" This song plays during one of the most emotional cutscenes in the entire game. And on the title screen. Which has a day/night circle. You start out at daytime, then the sky turns red, the stars come out, and then, finally, a new day breaks. Xenoblade problems #256: Not being able to start playing the game because the title screen is just too darn pretty.

@@warailawildrunner5300 Agreed. XC1 is a polished 10/10 masterpiece with nothing to complain about and so much to love. XC2 has a few issues with the voice acting (there's a lot of awkward pauses to let the animation catch up) and is generally considered to be too anime. However, it is an experience, not just a game because of it's flaws and amazing story. Just remember that the second one is hard to appreciate before about the halfway point.

I think what makes the theme more impactful is that while you're staring at the title screen, there is a day to night cicle so when the theme it's about to end it starts to dawn and then the cycle repeats, but it gets much better when you finish the game, because the title screen changes and you see all your party, sitting, talking and watching at the sea while the day passes.

Each instrument taking turns with the melody at the start, the swelling and union of so many playing at once in the middle and then back to soft violin + piano at the end. One of the first times I sat at the title screen when starting a game. And then feeling more emotions after playing through the game and listening to it again. Can't ask for much more!

This track is special to me. The first time I heard it was at a concert dedicated to the music of Yoko Shimomura (she was there too). I found this music so beautiful that I was immediately interested in the game it came from. And that game has become one of my all-time favourites. I love how you interpreted the music, it's exactly how I felt playing Xenoblade Chronicles and how I feel when I look back on my games. The Xenoblade ost is a masterpiece and this theme is one of the most beautiful in the game, as is everything Yoko Shimomura does. By the way, if you like what she does, she also worked on the Kingdom Hearts ost (I recommend the Roxas theme) and The Legend of Mana ost (I recommend the main theme or song of mana). ^^

I love Yoko Shimomura's work. Her talent to evoke emotions within you is unreal, almost on the same level as the legendary Nobuo Uematsu's. I think this track is one of her best works, a total tear jerker, even for someone like me who hasn't even played the game. If you'd be interested for some more, I would HIGHLY recommend the soundtrack of Radiant Historia, which is her lesser known works, but easily among her finest. "An Earnest Desire of Grey", "Where The Wind And Feathers Return", "Radiant Historia" and "The Red Locus" all come highly recommended, just to name a few.

I... WAIT! she wrote PARASITE EVE's music?!! Holy hell no wonder why i love it. Parasite eve had some great music that i STILL LISTEN TO. Don't look at me like that. that intro song (PRIMAL EYES) for PE is OUTSTANDING and bombastic. Great music to listen to while working overnight. She also wrote for a few of the Mana series games which is nice. I'll have to look at the one's you suggested, as she's got great talent. As an aside, yeah.. she's definitely up there with Nobuo Uematsu as legendary. I mean shit.. The Last Story had GREAT music that was just as emotionally investing in as hers. and he did it. IT was nice to see he can do one that had much more introspective music than just bombastic battle music.

@@ZealSeraph you could always try to emulate it these days. Or buy an.. wait no.. American version is region locked from UK isn't it? Then emulate it I guess. The first game (imo) is the best out of the trilogy. Mainly because PE 2 kinda retconned some things and made it go in a completely different direction that now followed Resident Evil. PE 3 (named 3rd birthday - ugh.) Went into a different direction as well and was.. a promising idea for a psp game.. but would have been better as a stand alone and not as a 3rd retcon of PE delving into time manipulation and "snatching bodies" by forcing aya's consciousness into a person at that time jump to do certain things.

Xenoblade's main theme just sounds so bittersweet to me. It's a perfect representation of what experiencing the game actually feels like. That lonely piano at the beginning sounds like we are following the story of a single person but in fact it's a story about all of us. It's about the human condition. Eventually that tiny melody at the beginning explodes into an orchestra of many voices. All the people we meet. All the hellos and goodbyes. By the way I was under the impression you only react to songs that contain some sort of singing.. dude this opens up a whole new world. You got to listen to 'Serpent Eating the Ground' from the Bravely franchise. It will blow your mind with all the leitmotif stuff going on.

I am really happy to see your reaction to this piece. I remember when I first got this game as a gift for Christmas from one of my sisters. I knew nothing about the game except that my sister thought I would enjoy it. I booted it up when everyone else had gone to bed and immediately I was caught off guard when this started playing as the title theme. Most other games I played at the time would start off with a bombastic tone as they expected you to just move right along but instead, Xenoblade's theme was quiet and calm. I couldn't help but sit there and listen; as it continued on as you said, it felt like I was being sent on a journey and I couldn't even get off to start the game. When everything comes to a close, I knew I was in for something special.

All of the grand journey and fantastical scenes and by the end you feel like you've grown and experienced more than you ever set out to and there's joy in that. But then those last quiet notes settle down and you remember the sorrow that began this journey, and all the things that happened on the way. All you can do is reflect and know that it was worth all of it. The visual that accompanies this theme, on the title screen, is the game's signature weapon, that red sword you'll see if you look the game up, lodged in the ground with a sweeping grassland behind it. The only thing that moves is the grass in the wind, and the sky which changes from night to day. The theme starts during the day, picks up at sunset, and quiets down again at nightfall. It's so simple, but so perfect.

Probably the biggest emotional piece of music done for ANY video game ever. Yes, Final Fantasy has "To Zanarkand", "terras theme" and much, much more. There is Zelda and so many other great video game series. But see it like this: The Xenoblade Theme literally describes and carries the game from start to finish. And outside the game it can also be fit into many stages of your personal experiences. Drifting away in your thoughts, having a rough day, have to deal with sadness... this is what makes the theme so different to any other song in a video game. Other themes carry or describe a specific situation or character in the game, but this theme touches your soul with powerful emotions, melodies and a symphony of life experiences.

I eventually pulled up the OST and knew this piece was from Yoko Shimomura within the first 15 seconds because I got Kingdom Hearts vibes. Which made me excited about the OST because Yoko Shimomura is *really* freaking good at her job. In all honesty, I think this might be her best piece from a video game. It's absolutely something in her style, but there's a raw emotion present as it keeps cycling through the orchestration right before the end of the song.

In a good way, I love how we can see you failing to completely move with the music and kind of getting surprised at the twists and turns. Just when you think you know what's coming next, it surprised you anyways. But never in a bad way.

This (and Chrono trigger's) is THE title screen song, because it hits you way harder once you finish the game and the title screen changes. By the way, there's a live presentation with a handful of themes/songs that Monolith/Nintendo did for the release of the game on 3DS, if you are interest. My favourite videogame ost by far.

I feel like they intended this title screen to be most fulfilling *after* you beat the game. You finish it and come back to the title screen, reeling from the feeling of completion, and you come back to this song that matches your story. Starting simple and calm, growing in grandeur and glory, everything behind you as you push to the finale, and being halted. Relegated to quiet defiance.

Many of my friends ask me why I love the Xenoseries (Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade) so much. And while storytelling, characters, gameplay, etc, are some of the reasons, my main reason and first answer is the beautiful music. Yasunori Mitsuda, a well known japanese composer, has composed tracks for the Xeno games since Xenogears. Xenoblade Chronicles 1's composers are ACE, Yasunori Mitsuda AND Yoko Shimomura.

Such a great theme! This is the main reason why the title screen for Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is my favourite title screen in any game, it just blows almost everything else out of the water. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was also great, but it doesn’t do the same things to me that this one does. Xenoblade Chronicles X may come the closest, but just coming down to preference I would say my second favourite title screen is the famous title for Ocarina of Time. If you haven’t, I also recommend taking a look at the visual that goes along with theme, because the visual elements that accompany this song have a very simple brilliance for me that elevates it even beyond what the song does itself.

4:50 I had this same realization many years ago. Later another hit me: Many of the great classical pieces were commissioned for entertainment by those who could afford it, or simply employed the composers for their talents to let them create the great pieces that their minds forged. Is that so different today? The only oddity is that the majority of these beyond astonishing classic pieces are all coming from Japan, not from Europe.

You know, I used to think that Somnus sounded suspiciously similar to this. Than I remembered that Somnus was actually composed years prior to Xenoblade for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, before it was finally used in XV. I wonder if this song was inspired by it, since it was uncertain at the time if Versus XIII and Somnus would ever see the light of day.

Yoko Shiomomura, of Kingdom Hearts fame, composed Xenoblade's main theme. It's designed to be the main love theme for the most important relationship in the game, but more than that there's a little thing your video missed. When on the title screen for Xenoblade (a simple shot of the Monado, a legendary sword, impaled in the ground on a grassy field), the game shows off the day/night cycle by slowly transitioning between them. This theme is synched up with that transition - the oboes beautifully cue the blazing red sunset first coming in.

Hello, it's actually insane how close your guess on the context of the song you've reacted on your video espectially Nier, "Honkai World Diva", and the first half of "Befall". Would love to see your take on Shin Godzilla OST "Persecution of The Masses" and "Who Will Know" since those two songs have a lot to do with perspective. Ah also if you still want to look into Honkai Impact 3rd song there's one called "The Day You Vanished With The Star".

Hello! I'm back. Your take on this was very interesting as someone who doesn't pay too much attention to the meaning of the music in the games I play. I've thought of a suggestion, though! Two, actually; for starters, have you listened to basically anything composed for a Fromsoft game? They're all orchestral and they all slap. Another, which is more niche, but from a mod for a game that I hold very close to my heart. Look up Stained, Brutal Calamity by DM DOKURO, it's like 12 minutes long and has an orchestral rock vibe going the whole way through.
