À l’occasion de la reprise de "Mayerling" de Kenneth MacMillan, Dorothée Gilbert et Hugo Marchand évoquent les rôles du prince Rodolphe et de Mary Vetsera qu'ils incarnent dans ce ballet créé en 1978.
Les danseurs Étoiles rappellent le contexte historique et politique qui permet de comprendre les enjeux du ballet et les différentes hypothèses des historiens concernant la mort des deux amants dans le pavillon situé à Mayerling.
Ils partagent leur approche de la psychologie des personnages et les rapports entre les hommes et les femmes tels que les dépeint MacMillan avec noirceur, brutalité et passion.
Ils racontent enfin comment ils s'approprient le langage virtuose du chorégraphe anglais et la façon dont le sens théâtral et dramatique l'emporte toujours sur la technique.

On the occasion of the revival of Kenneth MacMillan's "Mayerling", Dorothée Gilbert and Hugo Marchand talk about their roles as Prince Rodolphe and Mary Vetsera in this 1978 ballet.
The Étoiles dancers recall the historical and political context that helps us understand the ballet's stakes, and the various hypotheses put forward by historians concerning the death of the two lovers in the pavilion at Mayerling.
They share their approach to the psychology of the characters and the relationships between men and women as depicted by MacMillan with darkness, brutality and passion.
Finally, they recount how they make the English choreographer's virtuoso language their own, and how theatrical and dramatic sense always prevail over technique.

Je suis frappé par cette danseuse, n'étant pas féru de ballet ou de danse. Hugo je connaissais et admirais déjà, mais Dorothée Gilbert m'a enchanté avec ses pas et allure en dansant, mais aussi énergie humaine et esprit. Ce que dit Hugo aussi, vers la fin, est bouleversant.

I've always found this ballet piece very interesting. I think it's one of the hardest roles in the ballet world, not only due to its technicality, but more so for the fact it only comes across in the right way when the dancers have the kind of artistic expression needed for this role.Only the most matured and experienced kind of dancers can pull this off well. This video is very insightful in what is required in executing this role well. I love that Hugo makes the reference in the end to film. You can transcend into another world and be emotionally moved by watching a movie. That's exactly what I feel when watching this piece on the screen. I hope I''ll be able to see it one time live in theatre!

Magnifique vidéo, très sensuelle, et très bons VRP (:-), qui parlent aussi bien de l'oeuvre qu'ils la dansent !! ça y est la pub a fait son effet il reste quelques places je vais essayer d'y aller !!

Superbes danseurs ! Ils sont tellement investis dans leur rôle respectif par leurs visages habités et leurs gestuelles expressives. Psychologiquement Hugo Marchand est Rodolphe, Dorothee Gilbert est Marie Vetsera. Ils vivent leur personnage. Du grand art...! L'art de la danse à son plus haut niveau....

Hugo: "She is mad" Dorothee: "She was madly in love with him". The difference between a pragmatic man and a romantic woman.😃 Although, I still don't understand Marie's motivation.
