How to set the time on a Seiko dual chime clock without getting the strike out of sync.

Like @imasahm13, I have the identical movement, but in the gold-coloured case with the handle on top! (It's a small world). My clock is ringing exactly two hours behind as you describe. So I have now turned it back 2 hours (as the youtuber suggests), and I'll report back as to how mine has responded! Well, the next time it rang, it rang correctly for the hour it was pointing to, so: SUCCESS! Thank you very much 🙂

Exactly! We have the same gold-colored rectangular metal mantel clock as you, and rather coincidentally also a 2 hr difference in chime number! Glad this guy put this video up.

And I casually googled Seiko mantel clock ringing incorrectly, and out of the woodwork he popped! Writing a day later, my clock is chiming and ringing perfectly now.

Thank you for the advice. I managed to synch the clock with the time, but now the chiming every 15 minutes stopped. How do I enable that again?

Quartz clocks won’t do the 15 minute chime for at least an hour after they’re started. That may be the issue.

How do you sync the minute? I have a Hermle quartz that chimes 2 min late. I tried and I waited and during the regulation it chimes on the hour but when I adjust the time, then it chimes always 2 min later. I read "that the minute arm maybe is not in sync with the internal mechanisem", can this be? And please is there a way to fix it? There is no help at all online, Thanks

Yes, it can be fixed. And yes, it can also drive you crazy. I had one of those come through the shop on factory warranty the other day. The minute arm is probably fine - and if you follow the factory instructions to change it, you’ll probably break it (…I may know that from personal experience…). If you loosen the hand nut, you’ll probably find the hand is really floppy on the shaft and can turn either way several minutes. Hold the minute hand carefully and snug the hand nut; now if you turn the nob, it should chime early. That’s good - we’re shooting for it to start chiming 3 minutes before the hour when you turn the nob (that will make it chime on time when running). With the nut snug but not tight, you can push the minute hand forward a little while holding the nob still if you need it to chime later. It may be that if you loosen the hand nut and then tighten it while holding the hand, that will get it where it needs to be.

Well, my comment and question was apparently deleted, but I've figured it out already anyway. Not sure if this question will remain, but wondering if you know how to date these clocks. From what I've read, the clocks with these older mechanisms are from the 1980's. My clock mechanism is identical to yours, but my clock is the beautiful gold tone with handle on top. Yours is the only other one I've seen with mechanism like mine.
