OPERATION SHUT DOWN by ICE !!

A rare winter storm dipped way south bringing snow and ice to South Carolina! The sand washing plants are all frozen over with ice and has temporarily shut us down. Our C&D Landfill operated on a delay due to weather. The CAT 826C barely started & thankfully the CAT D6 was already running when I got to the landfill. We visit Atomic Sand in Beech Island to see the sand washing plants was absolutely frozen! Winter is stupid and I am over it! #winterishere #ice #mining ‪@hceamericas‬ ‪@CrownRoyalStoves‬

When it gets cold up loads, don't go through a freeze thaw cycle, so the loads won't freeze in the trucks. It is funny watching you guy's shiver. 😂 -46 with windchill here today.

The exhaust is flex piped into the beds, so it keeps the bed kind of warm on the floor from the heat of the exhaust, and it goes out the back of the trailer

In the Wisconsin winters we just adapt to it and prep for the cold. Equipment wise, use a winter grease that’s thinner for greasing equipment but if used in the summer time it melts like candle wax down your booms and pins. Have decent battery’s, have 1 or 2 guys prep equipment half hour before normal starting time to let them warm up. If it gets supper cold you can always invest in turbo heaters to tarps to warm up equipment.

Hey Ryan us Midwestern people will share the cold and snow with you anytime. I've hated the snow and cold since I was around 15 crawling under dripping snowplows and machinery to keep them going. Stay Safe and keep the fire going ta stay warm.

Up north the cold is easier to deal with because it stays cold. The problem you're struggling with is everything being wet and then freezing. But snow that stays frozen doesn't make stuff stick together! And packed snow on the road is not nearly as slippery as rain that freezes on the road...and then is wet on the surface.

Back when we had are landfill we would park equipment on tires along the track but it snows up here every year not just hit and miss thing is Ryan you put employees first thanks for posting and be careful and warm and safe and hydrated you need to do what you doing looking for next video

looks like educating customers in regard to waste separation is something which needs to be addressed - would significantly reduce the amount going to landfill, rather than recycling. That load at 16:00 looked to be pretty much 100% recyclable. I guess a major hurdle there is getting government to set something up.

Ryan you wanted to know how we do it up north, around where I live ( Northwestern Ontario) across the US/Canada border near International Falls Minnesota we run the vehicle exhaust through the boxes of the trucks. Which in turn keeps them from freezing up. Stay warm my friend.

Deisel fuel in a pump sprayer, sprayed on the walls and bottom of container helps with the freezing to the walls

Compost grinding and screening in winter sucked we sprayed an anti freeze for belts all the time to keep the belts from seizing or deal with mud in tracks it's a daily routine
