Hey. What is a normal Dlco value? I took my first pft. All my Lung voulm are low. Fev 1 low fvc low. The ratio is normal. Im guessing Restrictive lung issues. My Dlco was 27mm/hg Please lmk the normal value. Thx 🙏🏽

Well, I am not a pulmonologist and I can’t give you the best advice on what is “normal” or “abnormal” for DLCO in single breath for a PFT. However, what I can say, is that your number is near the norm ranges in terms of that measurement. However, it is not an indication of how well your lungs are working. As my doctor always says, you have to look at the whole picture and not just one number. You may be able to absorb oxygen well, but you are not getting a full breath in and out based on the FEV 1 tidal volumes. This is a bigger picture. So if there is restriction in the lungs, that is something that would be addressed first in this case prior to diffusion capacity or what is causing the volume issue. Do you de-saturate on exertion? If so, then there is a further issue with diffusion that the PFT is not fully accounting for. Hope this helps 😎
