Interesting Vid as a Car and Waybill user on my G Scale East German line the only thing that griped was putting car cards on the Layout and over tracks. This poor practice is one that I have stepped on with my operators by providing angled shelves for them to use for such purposes. There looks space on top of the Green Control Box for such a helpful feature.

Joe, for me this was maybe the most enjoyable ops video you've done. I really like, as always, how you explain all the moves before you do them so we can follow along and not just watch trains shuffle. As others have commented..the break between real time and fast action with the rail sounds was a great addition. Watching this video made me realize more than before just how planned out the yard is and how it all makes sense the way it works. After posting this comment I'm going to watch this segment again.

Joe,This kept me up way past my bed time. In the area I model and year ( 2019) mainline trains arrive into the yard with just a quick blast of the horn or bell. But now and then you get one train that just has a constant horn and bell ringing.At this location the yard engine and slug have their own vibe. They Fuss around the yard like a mother hen keeping it's charges in check. Sometimes a train can arrive in the yard but the whole feeling has changed, this time out of the bowl of the yard comes the yard engine looking for it's next prey. It just needs the " Jaws" theme to to give it the right tone. A few thursday's ago the yard had been warned to expect a train with a bogie defect on one of it's wagons. The yard engine spent hours trying to clear some room in a very full yard. The mainline train finally arrives, between the mainline loco's and yard loco they cut out the culprit. For the rest of the early hours trains were being " launched" east like spaceships. Some engineers had smooth take offs but others were reving the motors and taking off with the foot planted right to the floor. So thank you that was a great session. Over in the yard right now a line of autoraks have just been left. I can see the yard engine is not happy about this ( faster than 10 m.p.h. ) Cheers, Chris Perry.. So I'm off to see what will be done about it.

i am sure no one notice you went to the wrong end, of the string of cars first. lol , fast run a round, i like how you did that, not pushing all the way back, makes seance since cars will be pushed back as you go. i never really thought about it. but from a empty yard to full yard in the matter of a couple trains arriving. and we will just say you had a conductor in training for that. i can see how a operating session with four or five people can make it for a crazy busy layout. better be a good train master.

Joe, that was a very nice video. I always enjoy watching trains on your layout and the progress you have made. The sound was good, enjoyed it, no issues with understanding you a bit. Blending in fast action with real time was awesome, makes the video go by smoother. The sounds of trains going by was good, any railroad sounds mixed in, like a dispatcher in the background talking to other trains is also fine. Keep up the nice videos and have a great summer.

Loved the video, Joe. The first time you sped up the action and played the sound of a train roaring by, I almost fell on the floor laughing. What a great effect! I can certainly appreciate getting the outbound holding tracks mixed up. Every time I've operated Browns, I've had to stop a couple of times to make sure the cars go on the right tracks. This usually happens about the time that the first outbound tracks are full and you now have two outbound tracks for both the north and southbound transfer runs. Just an observation...your arms must be way longer than mine! I seem to have a much harder time uncoupling cars on tracks 8 through 10. See you for the July op session.

nice realistic vid... and as far as your mistake goes, it happens in real life to (I was a Chicago and northwestern switchman for 10 years)… mistakes add to the realism of the job... we had a yardmaster accidently send a car marked for green bay Wisconsin to green bay FLORIDA (i never knew there was a green bay florida)… all the he saw was green bay on the computer and didn't look at the full bill... we all had a good laugh out of it and mostly because we all would have made that same mistake... but the flip side is being able to catch and fix mistakes

Hey Joe, One to add for your operations series is re-staging your staging yard. I'm interested to see how you deal with trains in stub ended staging including getting trains ready for next session, fiddling cars on and off the staging tracks, occupancy, car card management etc. I know there is a wye just on the other side of the wall from staging. I assume that is used to get trains pointing in the correct direction, or perhaps not? Curious to see how you do it.

Ok I like the idea. I will see if I can work it in to next session! Thanks for watching and the input!

one thing about american model railroad is that you have 10-15 of almost the same locomotives aint that kinda boring, you know european locomotives are difrent and exiting (also diesels) so i dont get it can you guys even tell the difrense about your locomotives
@centraljerseyconrailinnsca5676 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, uniformity is what makes it look good. Partly because that is how the prototypes do it. My goal is to emulate my prototype as close as possible. The easiest way to distinguish each type of locomotive is through the numbering. Conrail assigned certain number to different classes. There are also spotting features that can help you tell them apart. Check out the North American Diesel Spotter Guide. Also locomotive fleets in Europe have lot of uniformity as well. Look at Freightliner Inc (Great Britain) or DB (Germany), as a couple of examples. Thanks for watching!

Great video Joe! I really like your idea of using actual train sounds instead of music. I hadn't noticed the Rix Pick uncoupling tool holder before. Good idea. I stopped the video and went down the basement and drilled an appropriate size hole in one of my car card boxes. That works on the ones from Micro Mark but not some other brands. Cheers!

Joe, Great op session! The fast clips do reduce the time and break up the monotony. You could kind of subdue the train sounds slightly, making it more of a background sound-but I like it. Wow! I am seeing black and blue again! lol-Great Show!!

I have never seen dice used in an operation session. Can you explain a little more about it?
@centraljerseyconrailinnsca56764 жыл бұрын
First off sorry for the delayed response. The dice I use a random number generator. I picked a number at the number represents a “fault”. This fault can be used for anything. A defective car, an over weight car etc. ( the sky is the limit) . When you roll the “fault”. The crew must take the appropriate action. Like stop the train and set the car out. The dice were a low cost solution that myself and Tony Bowen came up with to installing Boulder Creeks electronic scale. Thanks for the great question!

Joe, I stumbled across this video when searching for model railroad operations. Great video! I have a question about something I saw. There is what appears to be five flat cars with white cylinders. To my eye they look like the loading tubes and DODX flat cars that the Navy/Lockheed use to ship D5 missiles around the country. I'm an Active Duty United States Navy Missile Tech with 19 years of service and if that is indeed what the cars are I'm very familiar with them!

Jason Guess hey good eye. That is what they are. Micro trains released them late last year. Being a former torpedoman I had to have them! USS Honolulu 2000-2004. Thanks for watching. Any information you can provide would be awesome!

I will say though, actually showing the mistakes and what you did to fix them while switching was interesting. Not too many people will admit to those in a video so you get props for that.
