The fun part is when you take a couple moinths off and need a few hours to re-aquaint yourself to the controls for each aircraft lol. Going through that rn. The 18 is pretty easy to remember, the A-10 is a bitch though. So many HOTAS functions to keep straight.

You can use mavs alone, but they are so hard to acquire targets without the tgp.

Yea, you need to be a lot closer for sure to reliably lock targets manually when you can't zoom in as much. :D

You can change the FOV for some zoom, but that is honestly just better for locking the target rather than finding them

Thankfully you don't have to boresight them in the F/A-18. Really dislike that in the F-16. using them without the TGP in the Viper and that really is a pain. Finding isn't too bad, but ID'ing targets to take out SPAA units first.

F-16 Avionics guy here. Funny that you say this, AGM-65s are what we used to use on the F-16s prior to the Block 40 target pods for target acquisition. It's all we had! We used to load inert 65's just for the seeker head even though the missions didn't require that particular munition. I know the A-10 guys were doing the same thing for a long time.

When I used to play Ace Combat witth my friend in co-op mode, he would fire whatever special missile or rocket he was carrying and call out 'Mack tire mack tire'. He was Scottish so he said their word for Wolf was 'mack tire' but they way he pronounced it sounded like 'muhk tear'. We had another guy that played with us that insisted the call outs be correct 'Fox 2, Rifle, pickle,' etc. It would tick him off so bad, it was so dumb.

I’m sure you know drewski, but you can use the ATFLIR pod to direct the AGM-65s. It makes it much easier to scan/track/shoot dealing with multiple targets. All you have to do is bring up your Mav screen on one MFD, and the Flir pod on the other and just designate with the pod, then move over to the mav screen and Uncage it. Have fun

I always fly with a tgp now, it's super useful. Even in air to air for visual ID if I need it. I've only tried buddy lasing between the FA-18 and F-16. In theory, the FA-18 should be able to laser for the Apache so it can hide behind hills, or pop and drop with it's hellfire missiles.

Its a good plane module. Quite easy to learn. After 20 minutes it was obvious to me how to use A2A missiles. After another half an hour I already knew how to use Harpoon missiles. Without watching any tutorials. Yes, its probably because I use to play F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 back in days which became very helpful in case of DCS F/A-18 😊

i use the Mavericks with the TGP its way easier and i locks better on the Target... for Targets in Citys i Prefer the Laser Varient

Drewski, with the DCS F-4 Phantom (hopefully) coming soon and the A-6 Intruder (Again, hopefully soon) coming right behind that, do you expect or hope for DCS to release a Vietnam style map? SEAD missions in an Intruder over North Vietnam would be incredible in this gamer's opinion.
