ICOMS operate out of basic bandwidths of store bought Motorola radios. We meant during airsoft games casual players using store bought radios could not hear your transmissions. But you are correct with the right equipment you can hear them...Just not with store bought brands. I used them in the military and trust me there is no connection or possible use between a "Generic" store bought Motorola and an ICOM.

Great video. Just curious, will the military teach you how to operate a radio in infantry? I plan to elist as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman and I thought some experience could help me out.

@cooldude92498 If you are talking about the USJTF the age limit is 15 or above. Thank you for the question and we will be here for the foreseeable future so when you do turn 15 come on by.

@NewWhitelandAirsoft No its not silly....Most radios have a 1 or 2 pin connector for Motorola or other radios. Ensure before ordering a headset or microphone device to check for compatibility between the headset and the radio before buying.

@ctres94 Yes Sir, I was more on practical application and the uses and dynamics of radio communications. We can go in the weeds all day long talking about the specifics of the radio kit. Just an informative video to pass key radio doctrine to others! Thank you for your comments, Brad
@FortPolkAirsoft11 жыл бұрын
Good question, Know this goes a little outside the sphere of this video however with combat shooting you really want to leave any external attachments (Meaning attachments such as wires that run from your torso to your weapon) off the weapon. Asking for breaking of equipment and wrapping around items :) Are you using two radio nets due to a command function or for another purpose? Also what kind of PTT button are you looking for specifically (Important for Mounting Purposes)?
@DeputySheriff33012 жыл бұрын
just because you buy a motorola/icom etc radio doesnt mean they're encrypted. In order to encrypt a radio you need to install an encryption module witch is about an extra 200 dollars or buy a radio with the board installed.
@RichardsWorld11 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the cheaper Motorola radios are made in China. For about the same price you can get you a much better radio.. yes also made in China called Baofeng. You can get them on Amazon. You can have dual receive, and with a push of one button change to a different frequency that you programed earlier. It also does VHF and UHF. And you can actually pick a specific frequency instead of a standard channel. Or just use a standard channel. Here are a few of the specs. 5 Watts power. You can listen to a regular FM radio station if you want. You can choose offset sending frequencies for using a repeater. Since it can listen to 2 frequencies you can send on one frequency but listen to a different frequency. The chances of the average person listening to both of your frequencies at the same time would be slim. I have 4 of them and I dropped them a few times with no problems. The only thing that sucks is the chargers were made by some other Chinese company and about half of them don't work so well. I bought them a year ago so maybe they fixed that problem. Frequency Range: 136-174 / 400-480MHz; 25KHz/12.5KHz Switchable 128 Channels 50 CTCSS and 104 CDCSS; Channel Step: 2.5/5/6.25/10/12.5/25KHz Dual-Band Display, Dual Frequency Display, Dual-Standby; A/B band independent operation.

You need to obtain your ham radio license before you can use the Baofeng radio. They are also illegal to use on the FRS/GRMS frequencies.

As an airline pilot, I know that we communicate on VHF frequencies while military communicate on UHF band (shorter range but better quality) :)
@mitchellhood83204 жыл бұрын
Aside from hardening (emp, weather, and impact), encryption, and frequency hopping that are usually built into military radios they are functionally the same. They might be different models built by the same or different manufacturers with slightly different electronic components (different weight and power usage considerations play in) but they do the same thing the same way. The military uses both UHF and VHF for short range and long range communication respectively. VHF requires you to speak clearly and somewhat slowly or there can be distortion in the transmission. I'm guessing the reason the person in aviation thinks we don't use VHF is because there are specific assigned frequency ranges that are authorized for use and the FAA has a chunk of VHF set aside strictly for air traffic use that we cannot normally use. But military long range VHF radios are entirely able to just tune into those frequencies and talk to planes or ATC if they wanted to.

I strongly recommend going and getting the amateur radio license ($25- $30 for 10 years) to use the UHF/VHF radios such as the Baofeng UV5R. I see a lot of players at my local field running these radios without a license but they are excellent radios with lots of options including basic encryption. 73's, Punisher 3, out.
