Let me tell you an shortened version of a story which I share with my friends when I initiate them to Opeth. I found a strange painting in Montreal's Mount Royal forest which was grey, white, black and gold which depicts a morbid putrid nurse in a void of stars. A disturbing picture to not get into details. Behind it there were the lyrics of "Death Whispered Me A Lullaby" translated in French Québécois joual - but I didnt know it was this song until a year later. Brought the painting home and one year passed, I discovered this song and the lyrics where the same as the obscured text behind the painting. Horrified & concerned, but mostly astonished by the conjuction - as I was fan of Opeth by did not venture much into the Steven Wilson area. The painting remains in my music area near my Opeth EPs, vinyls, CDs & my turning table. Thats my little life story about Damnation.
@eddieademi4 жыл бұрын
David Pagé wow can you share the longer version of the story?
@d_page4 жыл бұрын
@@eddieademi id say the best song to explain the painting's vibe and my personal story with it would be "By The Pain I See In Others" but I assure you I am well and healthy , so is my family. The nurse is quite "friendly" actually, most of my familiy/wifes familiy(except wifes mom) say hi to her upon visits casually and consider it part of the household for she is such an unexpected picture outside from the common wolrd view, it is a stunning piece of art. Laughing in the face of fear is such a great medicine. Why someone threw it away is the Mystery to me - it has plated gold sheets on the edges and is really large. Its far from cheap. Maybe the person who first bought it was compulsive and way too superstitious to have a mindbending painting, or maybe it was inherited and the person hated it, I cant and wont know for sure. That is all I have to say, let your imagination fly if you wish to fantasize a bit more, isnt that what most of us want?
@eddieademi4 жыл бұрын
@@d_page maybe the painting was so cursed and beautiful that the previous owner who had it was horrified and could not stand it anymore. Damn man this story gave me the chills, id kill to see what that painting actually looks like.
@d_page4 жыл бұрын
@@eddieademi I feel we are cursed by our actions and choices, not by paintings or images we come across. Outside stimuli can only reflect our own darkness, the painting is a scarecrow, and nothing more in my humble experience. not sure. the liner notes are not clear. they say that all songs published by blah, blah, blah, except death whispered a lullaby, lyrics by steven wilson, published by blah, blah, blah. next line says grand piano, mellotron, fender rhoades, backing vocals by steven wilson. i don't know if there is piano or mellotron on death whispered a lullaby so it may just be saying what he contributed to the entire album. genius.com credits mikael as the lead guitar with peter playing rhythm on death whispered a lullaby if that helps.
