Haha I've got a brilliant idea for lead singers how to make crowds scream. Instead of screaming "scream for me motherfuckers" or whatever lame shit they do, they should say 'now let's take some requests".

Its hard to do especially with a band with so many songs, each complex in their own way. This shows they aren't afraid to be vulnerable and mess up.

All those years of songwriting & band changes any musicians will forget how some of the songs go & what to play unless you practice constantly which Opeth don't always like to do. Not to mention the complexity of these songs . They usually don't ask for requests & i get why . The one thing i would love to see them change is doing at least one Encore even though they give it you everything they got when they play . Give them a moment to remember stuff they haven't played in a long time they will have it down in no time & man that's a lot of long complex material to have in your head & expect to call it up on a whim. They are pure pros but still as human as the rest of us.

+Gigerian I was there and to me it appeared they were having trouble with the keyboards dropping out and were buying time trying to resolve the issue. At one point between songs Mikael mentioned that shit was breaking down on them. A bit later Mike asked the audience if they were enjoying themselves which was met with cheers and then he said it that it had been a very difficult show for them. You can hear keys not work on I feel the dark. Overall it was a pleasant experience and the technical difficulties didnt bother the audience much at all.

@philip8634 жыл бұрын
Aentik do you mean the first lineup to record an actual record? If not, then that’s incorrect. It was David Isberg and some of his friends that founded opeth. Mikael, Peter, Anders, and Johan weren’t even founding members. Mikael joined just because David thought the bassist sucked and recruited Mikael. David had an argument with the other band mates since he didn’t tell them Mikael was coming and ended up firing all of them. Then later David left and Mikael became the main songwriter, vocalist, and lead guitar player. And the rest is history. Heck, we wouldn’t have the Opeth we have today if not for David’s band having a cool black metal logo(the logo opeth has now is their third one. The original was like a bunch of black metal logos, then to where it was more clearly written, then the one now with the artistic O). Mikael has said in interviews that he joined the band because he thought the logo was cool. He didn’t even know how to play bass!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Harvest is the only Opeth with a chorus section, isn't it? And also the only one with a basic ABABCAB structure.

@liohrt3 жыл бұрын
As a bass player myself, I can tell you, the song (like a lot from this album) requires a bass with more than 4 strings. Some songs only requires few extra notes from a low B string so Martin mendez managed during the years to transpose those riffs on only 4 string bass cause that's what he preffers. The problem with Nectar is (of what I know by far) may be the only song that requires a 6 string bass. It is still possible to change riffs here and there, but sure it would be a challenge for Martin to play it live. In my opinion, that's probably why they never played it live

I have no idea how he plays what he does on a rosewood neck. All I have are rosewood guitars and every time I play my friend's maple neck guitars I'm instantly 10 times better. Still haven't bought a maple neck. Ugh.
@Artec6198 жыл бұрын
Rosewood neck?? Do u mean rosewood FRETBOARD? Anyway, it shouldnt affect your playing, it almost doesnt matter, there are more important things such as the neck shape, the scale, the body, etc
@schmuckatelly18 жыл бұрын
No I meant neck because that's what I call it. And it does make a difference. Every. Single. Time. I'm not just making the shit up.
@Artec6198 жыл бұрын
Well, i can only say that Ive never seen a rosewood neck.. If we are talking about fretboards, believe me, there isnt much difference between any kind of wood or material. What guitar are u used to and what guitar does your friend have? If you are used to a strat and your friend has a gibson, there will be a lot of difference because of the different construction of the guitars, but not because of the fretboard wood. I wouldnt say there is much of a difference even if the necks are made of different woods.
@rob8798 жыл бұрын
don't worry i know exactly what you're talking about. my uncle has an american strat with a maple fretboard and it's like your fingers are floating on strings made of clouds and your fingers are like knives cutting through the strings like butter. im going to purchase myself a maple fretboard guitar soon. i have a guitar with an ebony fretboard which is 100x better than my les paul with rosewood, rosewood is absolute trash.
