The second solo is probably one of my all time favorite guitar parts. The tone is incredible. Those bends wail

This was my gateway to Opeth…incredible album. I love this song, and this era of Opeth.

me too! now they are my favorite band. i had heard the grand conjuration first, but i was driving down a congested highway and was experiencing some road rage, so i just wanted something balls to the wall at the time. but when i was relaxed and heard windowpane, i fell in love.

I'm not a fan of the 'Death Metal' Opeth, but the few tracks I've heard from the 'melodic' vocals have been really good. This is great and a definite yes from me.

Such a nice continuity throughout this album. The songs are all unique, but have that super moody tone. I can listen to this album forever🖤💀🙌🧝

Definitely top 5 Opeth solo for me, it got so much feel, reminds me of David Gilmore’s style.

2001 to 2008 Opeth is my personal favorite era. Damnation is surprisingly good. Prefer Deliverance cuz I like My Mikael Akerfeldt growling and singing. Fun reaction.

I like both, but I do miss the heavier side. The next album with the new drummer from "Paradise Lost" will be interesting.

Actually this album is entirely clean vocals and acoustic , it might have the occasional electric guitar, but 95% of this album is acoustic. It was supposed to be a double album along with Deliverance, which is the polar opposite, and serves as one of Opeths heaviest albums. Ultimately the two albums ended up being released separately a year apart from each other.

Hi! Who would have thought I'd "Comment" about my Top 5 favorite Metal band? 😊😛 So the background vocals and mellotron is Steven Wilson. In Mikael Åkerfeldt's soloing (which is also at the time "Peter Lindgren" on 2nd guitar), you can hear his main influence which is "Andrew Latimer" of *Camel.* The drummer at this time (for the past 3 albums, and 2 more) "Martin López" from Uruguay by way of Sweden, his drums, and for the rest of their catalogue, Opeth always made sure that you could hear every drum, cymbal, every subtle sound clearly. The bassist "Martin Mendez" also from Uruguay by way of Sweden (who I believe knew each other) is the longest running member of the band who is still with them. It's awesome to watch him swish his hair back-and-forth when they play the heavier cuts (when he had longer hair). Martin Lopez is now the founder/drummer of the Prog Metal band *Soen* with 6 excellent albums. So keep in mind; from the beginning up to the album "Blackwater Park", they were known as a "Death Metal" band. But with a more "Gothic" (not "Goth") timbre, the 2 different vocal styles by Mikael, and their very progressive elements, made it VERY different from their Death Metal counterparts for a number of years. Not many bands were adding "melodic vocals" (other than; Edge of Sanity, Soilwork, Extol, Gardenian, Scar Symmetry and a few others) with the guttural/"cookie monster" vocals back in the mid-90's. This album was a risky "experiment" to take because of their die-hard fans, as this album "Damnation" was created at the same time as "Deliverance" that would be released 1st as the "Death Metal album" (which some started to call them "Progressive Death Metal"), and Damnation was ALL "melodic vocals". Mikael originally wanted it to be a "Double Album", but the original label they were on (Koch & Music for Nations) wanted to bank on 2 separate releases. It's very fascinating to watch these guys at work with Steven (and his soundscape ideas), their good nature, even though the making of was plagued by various issues from technical, studio staff and amongst the band. You can watch the making-of with Steven here: Part 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4bKhH1pfrOnsNksi=QJ_z79Ok7AG-VNT0 Part 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJy7moaPg52bha8si=8eUzQfjc-NOHRB4O Part 3. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2TJi314icZjrtUsi=LAR0NE8xmnYDkZyx The "3rd" line-up and personal favorite . . . Mikael Åkerfeldt - vocals, electric and acoustic guitars Peter Lindgren - electric guitars Martín Méndez - bass guitar Martin Lopez - drums, percussion Steven Wilson − keyboards, piano, mellotron, backing vocals, mixing, mastering, production, engineering Btw - I commented on that "solo" Nick (which I think you did a great job!), that may have been 3 years ago, and at the time, it had no "title" of what track you were playing, and I commented something like; "Wait, Isn't that Windowpane?". It's still my favorite track, but the whole album is solid, and the Instrumental "Ending Credits" is a MUST listen for you and Lexi, it's gorgeous :). - So glad both of you enjOyed it \m/.
