I think this is the most natural and effective way to show madness. No unnecessary screaming. Just tears.

It isn't "just tears," of course. It's also the actions of a woman "divided from herself and her fair judgment", i.e. passing out straw and bone as if they were flowers (in the Zefferelli version and other past productions). She does wail, almost furiously (though not in this scene / production). Ophelia is the most tragic character in all of Shakespeare. A true innocent caught between the wheels of royal intrigue and skullduggery. Cheers
