Opie and Anthony: Ant Is Cheating at Call of Duty? (11/15/2012)

Anthony is tired of losing at Call of Duty, so he purchased a Xim Edge, a device that allows you to play Xbox 360 games with a keyboard and mouse. Danny says this is absolutely cheating, but Ant disagrees. He says that since he is old and grew up without using a controller to play games, he is at a disadvantage without a mouse and keyboard.

I am a console gamer, and I grew up using a controller. If I had to play Xbox or PS4 with a keyboard and mouse, I would be horrible at it, because I don't know how to use it effectively. Anthony's keyboard and mouse allows him to adapt to being able to play the game with his friends. It's not an advantage, it's an equalizer, because the controller puts him at a disadvantage. He's not going to be better than his friends, he's going to be just as good and have an actual fighting chance.

I'm 34. I started my gaming career on consoles 28 years ago. I've spent a lot of time doing both PC and consoles. I'm going to disagree with you. It's a known fact that mouse and keyboard is better for first person shooters. A mouse is much easier to control, and much more precise than a stick is. For example, I have gta 5 on ps4 and pc. On PC, I can easily take out two guards on a stealth mission, before the alert goes off. I can't do it on ps4. I fly and drive with an xbox controller on PC. It's too hard to do with M&K. You have to actually keep sliding your mouse forward to keep a helicopters nose down. Or, you just push the stick forward. Also, Imagine playing a game like Spider-Man from ps4 on the PC with a M&K. That would be hard as hell. So, lets say Spider-Man had a competitive multiplayer. Everyone was playing it with M&K, and you came in with a controller. You would destroy them. Certain games play better with certain inputs.

Analog joysticks are just pure crap when it comes to first person shooters... Maybe they were good for side scrolling Street Fighter type games, but for the new age of fully 3 dimensional worlds the keyboard and mouse is just better.

@@metalmayhem3622 Ya i just meant in general joysticks have been around a very long time since WW1 airplanes and the first claw grab arcade machines, the mouse and track ball appeared much later in the game. Im roughly your same age mid 30s came from consoles PC the DOOM Unreal days and i agree i love the D-pad/joysticks for fighting games, side scrollers, top downs, flight sims. But FPS games with 2 joysticks feels about as intuitive to me as a racing game with a track ball. FPS games are all about cutting down those reaction times (arguably true for all games) but especially this genre and where these controller vs mouse guys suffer. Coming from the PC world im sure ur aware with WSDA the second u push any of those buttons u are instantly travelling in that direction at top speed which remains constant, till u stop or hit something. This constant becomes a huge benefit when moving and shooting as u have 1 less variable to worry about and that constant has become ingrained in your memory as the other guy using a D pad is constantly fumbling with his left thumb trying to match his movement speed with his aim. I think its pretty clear manufacturers accept the fact the mouse is superior since they have implemented auto aim on nearly every shooter, and until consoles started doing this auto aim was virtually unheard of on any PC shooter.

You need to mess with the settings and fine tune the controls to your reflexes so you'll aim where you want instinctually. Also try turning off "aim acceleration" it really messes with your aim if you're not used to it

Using a keyboard and mouse is an obvious advantage. Danny is correct. I don't think there's an argument being made that a controller is "superior," so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. The argument that Danny fails to make is that you are never going to be as precise with a dual stick set up as you are with a mouse where you can just click on an enemies head to shoot them.

Black Ops 2 is just a stupid looking game, and now that I've begun doing 3D modeling, I know EXACTLY why. It's because of the shading that they did on the textures which didn't belong there. It made everything look like wet clay. Shading of textures I would venture to say is almost always totally unnecessary, because the engine, program, whatever will create the shading by way of the lighting.

AlUsing a mouse and keyboard makes games so much easier. This is why pc players are far less skilled than console players. The only real difference between controller & mouse w/ keyboard is preference. I have no trouble with either, because I grew up using both. Id go from playing unreal tournament on ps2, splitscreen with my friends & later be playing counter-strike & team fortress classic multiplayer on my shitty old Hewlett Packard & never miss a beat. mouse and key are awesome for fps games & games with varied & complex controls. Hate to get all boring, but just want to point out that the caller who said Danny was being a Communist for his stance didn't know what he was talking about. Communism is 'equality of outcome', the opposite of 'equality of opportunity' - Anthony is actually the one behaving in a "Communist" manner here because he's giving himself an advantage the other Xbox players don't have in order to "equalize" his apparent skill with theirs. Danny is saying everyone should be using the same hardware so the only differentials in the outcome are due purely to the skill of individual players - this is 'equality of opportunity', the opposite of Communism, which would have everyone using different hardware, as well as other restraints/aids, in order for every player to have the same amount of wins and losses. I refuse to use the mouse, and keyboard in consoles, because I'm not a cheater. You're a cheater if you do. The Xbox doesn't come with a mouse & keyboard. It's stock setup - is a controller. That's it. I played both console, and PC. The mouse, and keyboard is extreme over advantage. It's almost like auto aim if you're skilled. I took the time necessary to get good with a controller. Cheaters - people who mouse and keyboard go below the player who is last place without it, and they're delusional if they think they're doing good.

It is cheating if you are using any equipment that the Game was not Specifically Ported for. And it actually is against the TOS for Treyarch (The company who made Black Ops 2) to use such Equipment. Video Games aren't like they used to be, no one owns any video games now, all of the Companies make Customers and Users sign an Agreement that says that The Company still owns your game, and can disable their Product at Anytime, making the game Un-useable for the Customer. Take Two (2K) is famous for this.
