Every few months I search out this song. Now it actually kind of stings, as my fiance of 7 years, two months after buying a house together, decided to take the ring off (yes, she is a top tier bee-yatch who was banking on a married man at her job actually leaving his wife to move into the house WE bought together - this was her plan. Nice, huh. I should have listened to my friends and family). Then 3 weeks ago my dad dies. So Gorms usually makes me laugh, but all I can think is that, if someone sat down and played this song at a piano, it actually might hit ya in the feels bone. If only I could blast off to that moonbase with Gorms.

The psychological reasons behind what makes a singer/artist cool or uncool comes down to age, with all other things equal and putting the music or artistic content aside. Any middle-aged man singing would seem uncool, because such a man subconsciously reminds us of our fathers, or uncle, or a teacher, perhaps the school principal, et cetera. These people can never be 'cool', because if they're cool, then who isn't? Coolness, like beauty, must be inherently rare or its very definition becomes meaningless. Rarity is what makes coolness, or beauty, so coveted. If it was everywhere and possessed by everyone then it would be worthless; it would be the defining characteristic of mediocrity or being average. Youth is the most coveted natural thing to old or older people. With youth you have health and beauty. And these two things aren't even guaranteed with young people, but that only adds to its desirability. E.G. Rock 'N' Roll has always been a display of reckless youth, not conservative adulthood. Rock 'N' Roll always celebrated health and beauty through some forms of sexuality and rebellion. Middle-aged people, unfortunately, symbolically represent the end of youth, a loss of sexuality, declining health, and there's nothing 'cool' about this because whether we wish to openly acknowledge it or not, nobody wants it. Nobody wants to be old, or middle-aged.
