Hey, sincere question for you. You’re a long time fan you said, so what are your thoughts on viewer’s criticism of Opie? Every video is filled with “Opie sucks”. I can’t say he was amazing or funny, but as a long time listener myself, I’m finding it harder and harder to continue jumping on the bandwagon and hating opie, despite him being part of the show I loved. Does that make sense? In terms of I’m not saying he was funny, but that I don’t really remember people hating him so much while the show was on, and before Anthony got himself fired. Even if there are very few sound bites of Opie being good on air, we still loved the show right? And now that they’re all apart, they’re no where near the combination of all three. With Ant and Jim still funny, there was obviously another variable that made O&A a hit we still discuss today. Sorry for the long comment

The real tragedy between these 2 was that they couldnt communicate, which is ironic because their talent was talking and being funny.

I download Anthony Cumia's show from a torrent site. A few weeks ago (clearly before the show above was recorded), he was trashing Opie pretty good. Anthony predicted that since Jim is no longer working with him, Opie will go back to being a terrestrial radio DJ. Anthony chronicled what a nightmare Opie was to work with on a daily basis. He was always pissed off about something. Anthony's theory was that Opie was angry that the listeners would goof on him for not being funny, so he took his anger out on the people he worked with. I agree with Anthony. It had to suck watching Jim and Anthony be hilarious each day and knowing that his only talent was saying "Cleveland, you're on the air"

@@amuroray88 buddy, you don't have all the info. Listen to the wnew shoes from 98-2002. You can see the growth of these two and let me tell you, it was all about Opie and Anthony. There was a former PD who wrote a critique of the XM O and A show and the talking points were Opie and Anthony need to be the focal point of the show, less input from Jim, his role of chiming in with the occasional hilarious line was perfect, and Anthony needed to do more impressions. The critique ended up being completely bang on. Opies vision and their chemistry got them to the top, the addition of the comics was the fine tuning that made the show brilliant. Around 2008 is when Opie started resenting his role on the show, that's 10 years of doing the radio show. Trust me, just listen to the old shows. It's really good radio

Seriously though, this is the most relaxed Ive seen Opie in MANY years. I disliked him alot of times, perhaps I dont like him much at all, but I dont hate people too easily either. And it was pretty obvious hes been having some really bad depression problems which I dont wish on anyone. I hope he is humbled, and finds somewhere to do what he likes. When he is relaxed like this he actually aint bad on the radio (even if you can argue he cant be all that great either, whatever). This feels more like when he was on JRE, I actually liked him more for that.
@vigusdna37605 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can’t Stand Opie most of the time but like u explained I agree whole heartedly .. I too Have times like the beginning of this episode where I feel like he is okay & not bad but then those other times he is a complete sociopath/ Narcissist/ & completely delusional & like u said he could be in a bad way with Mental illness & i would never wish that on anyone ... I hope he is humbled like u said but he doesn’t seem to have learned anything & he doesn’t seem like he has changed at all ... just the same asshole crybaby he has always been who 99 out of 100 times can’t take a joke
