You're referring to Heroin, which is cut along the way. Opium is 10x less potent than morphine. Heroin is 1.8x - 3x more potent than morphine.

The planting isn't so bad, it's the harvesting that is bad breaking cause of the bending down and scraping. It's why only India uses that mention to harvest opium and all other nations use the more modern version of extracting the opiates from poppy straw with chemicals in factories.

@@germgoblin5313 The reason it destroys lives is because drug addicts can't afford to get high due to the sky high prices of the drug. If it was legal to grow and sold by the government at low cost, most of the issues would go away. I won't deny that there will be people who become heavily addicted to the drug, but addiction isn't as much of an issue if they can always have access to the stuff. It isn't all that harmful to the body by itself. its usually the adulterants and dangerous lifestyle of addicts pushed into poverty that causes most of the harm.

Did you know that the US has confiscated billions of US dollars from Afghanistan? And most of the people in Afghanistan are poor and they don't eat. Now their only source of survival is opium cultivation. So if America returns their confiscated money, they will no longer cultivate opium. And if you give them money, they will not do it. You just look up and don't look inside people.

IEA doesn’t inspire opium cultivation. It inspires people to do others work. But, some people are cultivating it for years. They are strongly dependent on opium cultivation for living. The country is broken and it has sanctions. But, Opium doesn’t have sanction.

The Taliban leaders appear to have been more successful cracking down on cultivation than anyone ever has. We found a huge fall in poppy growth in major opium-growing provinces, with one expert saying annual cultivation could be 80% down on last year. Less-profitable wheat crops have supplanted poppies in fields - and many farmers saying they are suffering financially."

Никогда этого не произойдёт. В СССР было очень сильно развито сельское хозяйство в области выращивания опийного мака для производства лекарств. После распада СССР, рухнула и сама отрасль. Однако нынешнее руководство России подумывает возродить данное направление из за санкций. Афганистану тоже не хочется терять огромную прибыль от производства опия. Поэтому даже если случится что Афганцы откажутся от выращивания мака, то только после того, когда эта страна выйдет на первое место по развитию своей экономики в иных отраслях. А такого в ближайшее время не предвидится.
